The enviornment? Meh I guess maybe, but the main pint was the developers actually said one of the things behind the monk was his speed, so The pirates being skilled escapmen and known for there speed, would fight with the monk and I dont think itll be done, and if it is, it would be an expansion

So then that argument is the same as mine for nephalem class. Cant have nephalem because everyone is a nephalem, cant have pirate because anyone who attacks another ship is a pirate.

no BOMB bombs, thatds back to the gunpowder and gun issuse. He could use, like I said earlier, thrwoing potions, exploding potion replaceing the bomb anyone? And thats an interesting mechanic, pirates have fear alone adn courag ein numbers, a skill that improves stats by the number of people your partied with? Would tie into Blizz wnting one class to have partie buffs?

This whole "pirates don't use bows" thing is silly.
Okay you're on a ship, before the invention of cannons and guns, what is the best weapon to repeatedly assault another ship and get them to do what you want?
A) Swords
Nothing
C) Bows
How else would they get a ship to stop so they can board it or even catch up to it?
Pirates have been around as long as people have used the oceans as trade routes. The earliest documented instances of piracy are the exploits of the Sea Peoples who threatened the Aegean and Mediterranean in the 13th century BC.[5] In Classical Antiquity, the Illyrians and Tyrrhenians were known as pirates, as well as Greeks and Romans. The island of Lemnos long resisted Greek influence and remained a haven for Thracian pirates. During their voyages the Phoenicians seem to have sometimes resorted to piracy, and specialized in kidnapping boys and girls to be sold as slaves.[6]
What ranged weapon do you suppose they used back then?
Its alive still because everyhting is speculation. They cant close down a board because an idea is ridiculous ( when it is ) just because of that, no rules are broken, and people still posting on topic. ITS ALIVE!! ITS ALLLLIIIIIIVVVVVVEEEEEEE!

Fifth class is set in stone already according to Bashiok.
Kinda unlikely it will end up being a Pirate because they said it is a major card in the game.
I just don't see the Pirate being a major part of Diablo III.
Let's hope for Pirate in Expansion.

Question: Who here would consider 1260 to be the Middle Ages?
Question: Who would consider Diablo to be based off the Middle Ages?
If yes to both, then a rudimentary hand cannon is possible, with siege cannons being probable.
But, sense nobody will listen to reason, a Pirate class could also use Bolas, Plumbata, Kyoketsu, and even the Sling could be used, along side the Hand Cannon and Matchlock Firearms. (Matchlock Firearms were used as early as the 1300's in standard chineese armies, showing up in the 1400's in European armies.)
But none of you saw any of these in Bravehart so you don't think it's Midde Age material... *Sigh.*
I think it's a question of stereotypical Medieval times, in which case they wouldn't fit. If we were being realistic, yes. But it's fantasy and we're not, and so we can play on stereotypes without having a double-standard. That and they already said no firearms in Diablo III.
In any case, a pirate... I'm fairly certain the classes we play are actually different races, not just different professions (the Barbarians are obvious, the Witch Doctor is Umbaru, the Wizard is Xiansai, and we don't know much about the Monk, but I'd guess he follows this pattern). But it's dependent on how they play it, I guess. Obviously Wizards are not a race in real life, but they made it so. So, I could still see it working in that frame.
Dunno. Off hand I would say no, but that is mostly out of ignorance. If I saw it I might have different feelings.
However, I would not say that they couldn't already be in Sanctuary, since sailing is already commonplace (we see docks as large places of commerce and even travel on one in Diablo II), so it's only logical they exist. But purely on the basis of them becoming a class, see the aforementioned in the preceding paragraph.

The stereotypical Barbarian is ignorant and bloodthirsty. The stereotypical Paladin would be riding a horse. The stereotypical Assassin is basically a ninja. These stereotypes are not in Diablo 2.
As for firearms, I know they said they won't be in D3, I was pointing out that A) they could be in D3X and they were around in that time, just as there were intelligent Barbarians and Paladins that didn't ride around on a white horse.
I'm done, it's impossible to get people to think outside the box...

Actually, I would say they're all true, except for the Paladin one you stated, which can't hold true because there weren't mounts in the game. That opinion, though.

I know, I was just saying why I think they won't be in the game- they don't fit the stereotype that fantasy enthusiasts have held to for many years. I'm not trying to belittle you or anything, just saying why.
@ Bannik: Well, duh Of course bow and arrow isn't the best choice in comparison to cannons, but cannon fire wasn't largely as commonplace as long as boats have been. We're not questioning what would be more effective, I don't think.
If you want to get technical. Pirates used anything on the ship that could be used in a way to hurt or kill someone. There were very few limitations to the items they used for weapons.
They even used parts off of the ship as weapons.

I would use a lasso. I would loop the lasso around an enemy pirate, then tighten it and pull them overboard, while throwing some weights tied to other end of rope over and bye bye pirate.

Witch Doctor has Fire Bomb.
Pirates.
God I hate pirates. So lame.
By all gods, keep them away from this.
Yes, so we can't have 2 skills identical to 2 characters diffenrents.
I don't understand why this thread is still alive, Pirate is a bad idea, Blizzard are probably being laugh about us.
