uh, all diablo playable characters are humans, not demons.
But that doesn't mean they cannot do something new. It would be nice to have a Undead,
Demon or Angel character.
By the way they also can creat a character that are a human but can assume demon form. A Ant-Paladin or something like that.
The plot and world of Ssanctuary is focused on humanity and their unfortunate situation between the warring forces of Heaven and Hell. The first two games clearly established that dealing with the Three always ended in chaos and despair, and the books have further reinforced and alienated humanity from even dealing carelessly with Heaven.
The bottom line is that the human world has to protect itself from both Heaven and Hell, and thus there is little chance of us playing as either angels or demons. And, given how easily undead are manipulated by both divine sides, undead characters would also seem highly unlikely.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I understand that. But i allways liked to play with characters in multiple sides of the same war.
@PhrozenDragon
Diablo games don't focus on humanity. They focus on the leader, strongest, greatest, worst of prime evils. So they focus on Diablo as it's written on the title.
This has been the story of Diablo...since game I
But i don't think playable demon characters would fit in Diablo games.

No, the focus is on how humanity deals with them. Majority of the game, your staring at a human character overcoming the evils in the world on their quest to defeat a/the prime evil/s, and learning about a world of humanity constantly in conflict and struggling with the forces of heaven and hell.
Titles are chosen for a variety of reasons, not always because its the focus.
The Demon could be like Xazax from the diablo novels, i seperate demon enity, not on of the prime evils. Though i will admit, i am not very familiar with Diablo lore.

However Diablo, and by extension Hell, has always been the contanst enemy no matter what game you played or book you read. Thus a character essentially from Hell seems farfetched.

I havn't read that one. I stopped reading the blizzard books when WoW came out... just really made me lose alot of interest in blizzard overall. Ill have to give it a look.
These authors take quite a bit of liberty though, dont they? Can it really be said that everything they say is cannon?
meh, i liked the warcraft lore and plot up through frozen throne, WoW did nothing, as it added nothing... but the burning crusade with their space traveling blue skinned alliance members ruined it for me.
can we get a reference on that? Never seen such a claim.
Humans have in the Sin War trilogy been established as the offspring of angels and demons. However, that fact doesn't lend any tangible support to the idea of a demon character. As bastard offspring, humans aren't trusted by either side, and there is also the fear that one day humanity will be able to overpower both Heaven and Hell if they are allowed.
It is unclear however how strong humans really are at this point in time where the games take place. The Worldstone functioned as a dampener of all human abilities and powers. We don't know whether the destruction of the Worldstone will have any effect on that.

edyrem, but that's nitpicking and i see your point. just wanted to point out that all the players play as half-demons.

Warcraft lore is 100% destroyed since WC2. I hope diablo's don't find the same fate !

They are considered official canon.
