I only disagree with the jails, catacombs, and sewers... maybe im weird... but those were some of my favs in d1 and d2.
And trapping the stupid monsters behind bars to pelt them with spells and arrows was personally always a pleasure.

Quote from "mattheo_majik" »Man when you got the Devs of a game saying what the core of the game is about when they have been working for years on it and have a guy like avanent come and say " well I dont think I agree on that". Its just classic.
Looking at the rest of the post, it is pretty diplomatic.
Due to a sudden medical issue in the family at 6 am yesterday, I'm a bit stressed and tired; I guess a bit overly touchy too.
Sorry >< -

I'm a guy that respects opinions but I mean when it comes to the obvious such as this, why dont you just state the facts. Its not you didn't feel D2 was rooted in the loot, it's simply that your not attracted to the predominant loot system as much as the horror/suspense/lore/action that dDiablo1 and 2 delivered.
Theres a major diplomatic difference in saying I prefer the action/horror, etc over the loot system. However it is true that the loot was a core concept and also the principal addictive feature of D2. This way everyone agrees and everyone is happy! Even game Devs at Blizz.
Is that what I said?
Cause im pretty sure that I said thats never what games have been about to me.
And did I even say that about the game they are working on?
No, I talked about diablo as a series, and games, in general.
And Cause the d3 team is the d1 and d2 team too, right?
And diablo 2 had no plot... or an improved quest system, or fmvs, or a large focus on skills, or a big focus on have varied locations... ya, it was all about items the whole time, and clearly im an idiot for not choosing to like the previous games for that alone. right? -
Oct 3, 2008avanent posted a message on Diablo 3 ScavengerPosted in: NewsQuote from "Jackzor" »sure the in game scavenger doesn't look as cool as the concept, but fluffy? colorful? are you tripping on acid or something?
Ther remind of of wolverines personally. You know, those furry things that you dont wanna pet. With a richer color coat.
Its a legitimate claim. No acid needed.
I wish they resembled theyre original icky emancipated origins, but oh well. At least they dont seem to glow in the dark. -

Loved the d1 scavengers, glad to see them back. although, they seem to have grown a fluffy coat :?
concept art looks pretty savage, as usual. -

Obviously people will hunt for items but now there's more fun when it comes to killing...
Ya... that made me cringe. As I didnt find d2 to be 'all about the loot' but did feel wow was that way. Which was part of why I didnt like it. There was alot of dev into loot in d2, but it never seemed the main focus to me. -

I've never played a game for loot, until wow i played all blizzard games due to their worlds, quests/campaigns, and stories.Quote from "mattheo_majik" »People play those games for RPG/Quest adventure, however people play Diablo for loot. No matter how fun blowing up monsters with insane skills gets, it would be meaningless without the loot/inventory.
No matter how fancy the loot looks or acts, if theres no substance to the game... the game is just an epeen contest. -

Sep 27, 2008avanent posted a message on No Spellbooks in Diablo 3Personally, I wish theyd bring spellbooks back. Not instead of skill trees, but in addition too. Some of the unutilized spells could go under a general tab utilized by every class that could use spell books. I really missed spellbooks in d2 and wish theyd be in d3Posted in: News
Im thinking stuff like town portal, telekinesis, inner sight, slow missiles, and phasing(obviously not any spell thats going under a skill tree of course). In addition to spellbooks of stuff like that, also scrolls of other spells and bring back good ol' d1 infrasion. -

I friggin' loved the tentacle beasts, man!!! And the defilers? Pure gold! Project_XXI I scoff at your stupid lists, good sir! SCOFF!
Ya, I like some of the mobs on the top ten farewells too. Some of them were forgettable and jokes, but there were a couple that weren't bad mobs, and with a little help could be great.
found the lsit:

Ya... I liked the fetish in concept, felt the just needed a bit more to make them significant.
Blood hawks were nothing special, but I liked how they had the nests that kept spitting them out...
Liked how the wraiths stacked, made things more interesting... added an extra challenge.
Liked the demon imps caused they reminded me of the battle tactic used by acolytes/robed spellcasters in hell of d1.
And liked the leapers because it was a unique monster behaver in d2.
I liked half that list >.>
They mention the frog demon at the end, and I always felt if they buffed them up a bit they could have been pretty cool with how they jump out of the rivers... -

Diablo's 1 PvE > Diablo's 2 PvE imo. Diablo monster used skills that REALLY effects your gameplay, like Advocates that you have to petrify then or they just teleport and the Winged Demons that are hellsh overpowered but transform theyself into stone so you had the oportunity to kill one by one easily, but not using AoE spells or you would wake up then all.
Diablo 2's monsters skill most of time can be ignored. Just some are trully bad ass like Oblivion Knight's Iron Maiden and the Lightning Enhancement of those scarabs in act 2.
agreed.
Looking over the article, I had forgotten about the acid spitters/spitting terrors and the horned demons. I'd like to see them back, as they added more depth to monster behavior.
I forgot about LOD's stygian dolls, I felt they were a good way to improve upon the little midgets from act 3. They were a much more significant problem than their original counterparts in act 3. I'd like to see this line of creatures back in some form too, as long as they do somethign significant. -
Sep 19, 2008avanent posted a message on Top 10 Monster Comebacks in Diablo III1. blinkbats (bats from d1 that teleport)Posted in: News
2. the hidden (or stalkers i guess theyre called; invosmen from d1)
3. leapers (on of the more dynamic creature in d2 imo)
4. Corrupt rogues (sexy )
5. Reanimated dead (LOD they need to be dragging their swords ;p)
Id mention goatmen, fallen, and succubus as well, but I cant imagine theyd leave those out. -

I kind of don't like the difficulty levels in any game like that. I know if I just play the normal mode I'm missing lots of loot and monsters I can kill but most of the time it's so boring just going back through all the same quests and scenery.
completely agree. This is why im eager to see what they are doing with bringing back the random quest stuff from d1. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

I must have missed where the post mentioned diablo 2.

When comparing it to the other top mmorpgs out there... actually, yes you can.
When comparing it to blizzard's normal caliber of game design and development, um... actually, yes you can.
If you discredit someone chiefly because your argument doesnt match theirs... they aren't the one who's the idiot.

I should have said title too. The title goes along with judging the cover.

Judging a book by its cover is highly underrated.

The fact that thats how blizzard is choosing to respond to their fans is F'd up, with a capital f.
They're basically telling the people who helped blizzard get established in its days of pre-warcraft 3 to screw off.
Thanks for the love blizzard.

The style itself actually doesnt bother me. I think it is a well done style, but not for diablo.

I mean maybe im crazy, but...
Um... just as diablo 2 is the diablo 2 of diablo;
isnt diablo 3 the diablo 2 of diablo 2 and the diablo 3 of the original diablo;
I mean, thats kind of how a series works, right?
