So, I want to get my own WoW/account, and I have $140 for it, pretty much... so, I want to know:
1. There seems to be some kind of sale going on at Blizzard right now. Pre-Cata WoW for 5+5+10, which seems pretty awesome. There was a "buy for myself" option, so does this apply to people who do not have WoW accounts?
2. I tried to see if I can buy WoW from my battle.net account, but it throws me to the classic WoW game, which costs $5. On the Games page, there's no WoW except the classic WoW. There's no Cata, TBC, WoTLK, or anything. Do I need to buy the classic to see the other ones or something? I see both DII and DII:LoD, for instance, even though there's no DII on that account.
3. How much does Cata cost?
No the world change applies to everyone. And Cata's $40. I would advise just getting classic WoW and buying the xpacs as you get close to the level caps (when you get close to 60ish buy TBC, 70ish buy WotLK, etc). That way if you don't like it, or take a break or w/e, then you don't spend money on it.
I would buy it all now while they are on sale. $20 for classic, bc, and wotlk is a great deal. If you wanted to wait for Cata you can but I don't see why.

One of my friends got to 80 within a month on one of his alts. So if that's the case (your playtime and playstyle is such that you will level very fast) then buying them all at once makes sense.
If however you are like me, and are going to spend months leveling to 80/85, as well as leveling alts at the same time as your first character, leveling professions, achievement whoring, playing the auction house (making money in other words). Then buying classic (and bc for the 2 other races) would make sense as you'll probably save money in the long run as a few months down the track they'll all probably cost less anyway.
I wish that I had not bought classic, bc and wotlk at the same time as I could've saved a lot of money.

"A lot of fellows nowadays have a B.A., M.D., or Ph.D. Unfortunately, they don't have a J.O.B."
You know... I never had to pay for my burning crusade... Hell i probably wouldn't have to pay for Wotlk either... just get their "free trial" for the expansions... use that as your media and just pay for your account.
So I get cata world change and quests without buying cata? Damn. Dunno what's the point of Cata exp then.
Leaning towards getting the deals right now (classic, tbc, wotlk) and waiting for later to buy cata then.
you get the old world changes without Cata but you don't get:
- 2 additional races (Worgen/Goblin)
- one new profession (Archaeology) that's pretty awesome, especially if you like to learn new stuff about lore
- new leveling zones for 78-85 (even though you can get up to 80 in the Wrath of the Lich King)
- guild progression features that will be a pretty big deal
- leveling the professions to the max (meaning that you wont make as much gold as you would)
- flying in the old world (very very big deal)
i suggest you buy the 20$ set for WoW and the first couple expansions and get Cataclysm as soon as you can for the new features. If you like Worgen/Goblins more than the ones availiable prior to Cataclysm you could always wait but i don't suggest it. Every launch that has new races/classes (death knight for example) have their starting zones very very crowded and it kinda ruins the feeling of the game. All starting areas have awesome quest chains and the flow of the game is almost flawless (leveled a gnome priest from level 1 to 54 in 3 days and i'm almost 55 now too :P).

free trial is only for 14 days and you can't have the full game (or use the characters you created in the trial) unless you attach a cd-key (digital buy or package, same result).

Do I need Cata for the world change?
