The game is amazing, it is cool, it is fun, on your very first character to level 60. This means you have cleared the game 3 times, if not four. Creating secondary or even 3rd and fourth characters repeat the same process. IS it me? am i the only one getting bored of having to level the same exact linear way each time?
Most players will drop the game after clearing normal I would imagine. Others will play through to at least Hell, maybe on multiple toons. There will probably be a smaller crowd of players, just like DII, who will play for a long, long time. Or maybe not, we'll just have to wait and see. You could have asked the same question of DII when it came out and people are still playing it to this day.

Well....Diablo 2 lasted 12 years and is still breathing....and leveling on D2 was extremely static. There were only two viable places to level, Baal and Chaos Sanctuary. If you ask me, the act of level and drop grinding in D3 already seems FAR more dynamic.
I had about 30 chars on D2, never got above 80-something on any of them though. Normal and Nightmare were excruciatingly boring on multiple alts, I amused myself by collecting sets and uniques. Had nearly all of them

Yeah I couldn't stand grind leveling so I just refused to level alts like that. Sooooo boring. Hopefully nobody will find an "optimal" experience route in D3 and reduce it to the same thing. Also having a simple cap of 60 with no 80-99 "gouge your eyes out" XP grind should mitigate that problem.

This was Blizzard's plan all along.
You already spent the 1 time payment, and they already got your money.
They don't care if you get bored or not.
Now eventually, people will start going back to WoW where there's a monthly subscription.
Win win situation for Blizz.

You win the 'durka' award for the thread. I wish some of y'all would just go play Max Payne and hangout at a Max Payne fan forum instead of subjecting the rest of us to your ignorant drivel.

Yes, it was their plan all along to release a game and charge for it. Diabolical!
You've uh... never played much diablo 2 have you? This game, nay, this entire franchise is built exclusively around the item hunt. In D2 (which I'll site because it was played for over a decade by many, and they did the same exact thing every night - MF runs and baal runs), this was also the case. Leveling was never what drew people in. You could be close to 85 in mere hours. D3 has WAY more potential than D2. I mean, people played D2 day and night doing the same exact baal run in the same exact place for nothing more than experience, and maybe a good drop once every couple hundred kills (if they even killed baal).
My point being people religiously played even though;
It was the same boss over and over, and it was super easy. There was without argument 1 item that was BIS for your class / spec and that's the only thing that you wanted. Getting that item was ridiculously easy since people were duping items for profit for years, and yet people still sought them out as drops.
D3 will surpass it on the basic levels of;
There's always going to be a better (if slightly) item for your class / spec. Duping won't be a problem and you're actually going to have to farm / trade for that item. It's going to be years before people can say their class is maxed out with the items for their spec. Also in regards to the item hunt, farming any act in inferno will be viable. Yes act 4 can drop a higher ilvl than act 1, but the ratio of kill speed / ilvl drop depends solely on the player and the gear. If it's faster for you to farm act 1 with all MF gear on, sell the awesome drops for gold and buy the act 4 drops, then so be it. If you'd rather farm the drops yourself, you can.
TLDR; Leveling was never why people played diablo, with the exception of you have to because you messed up a build (before the respec patch in D2). It always has been about the item hunt, and it always will be. If you can't wrap your head around that, then this franchise is not for you.
clearly there will be an expansion also this game isn't even complete and they have already stated that. Most people continued to play D2 for reason's A, B and or C. Getting to 99 took a long long time they eventually had a ladder system so there was that little race, now getting to 60 takes a few days(1 day for some guys who have never seen real boobs). Reason B PVP was fun as hell, god did i ever love joining a pvp game and smashing everyones face in on a 6 on 1 then going back to town taunting them until they started smashing buttons in the chat window in a furious rage. And finally reason C, you're bored it takes 5 seconds to load up Diablo and join a game plain and simple. D3 is still missing PVP which is probably what some of us more hardcore players are waiting for and also don't forget D2 was so so much better after LOD was released it seemed to completely change the game. One thing is for certain though, if blizzard releases an expansion and its just an extra act well i'll just have to leave a finless cod on jays pillow. also buff inferno it seems way too easy or maybe it's just because i play a monk and he is BALLIN!

I disagree.
A lot of people played D2 with the main goal being to get level 99 with a given spec. The items were so easy to get that you would just get them on your way to 99. When I played, it was easier to get the main BIS items than it was to get to 99.
Also, the BIS items were a lot clearer than in D3, but that's another issue that has been brought up repeatedly.
Not everyone who plays Diablo plans on playing it for the next decade. You always hear about how D2 was played for 12 years, but who are these people who have been playing it for like 2-3 hours a day even for the last 12 years?
Anyways, the reduced max level clearly hurts the longevity of the game for a portion of the game's fans. I'm mainly talking about the people who didn't play D2 for like 6-12 years straight. There's a reason that a lot of people have complained about how easy it is to get 60.
___
Bottom line:
There's a group of people who played D2 mainly to get 99, and collected BIS items along the way relatively easily.
And there's another group of people who didn't care as much about leveling and just wanted to collect items endlessly no matter how easy it was.
The first group will probably get burned out on D3 pretty fast because once they hit 60 and get good enough items to clear Inferno all there is to do is continue farming Inferno. Or they'll move to HC instead of quitting after that, which I think will be more popular in D3.
The second group of people could play D3 forever I guess. Blizzard can just keep injecting slightly better items into the game and they'll keep farming them. And with no mechanic equivalent to ladder resets, that's most likely how it'll happen.
___
You can call the second group of people 'real' Diablo fans I guess. But the first group of people, combined with those who only care about finishing normal, make up the majority of people who haved played the series.
And for those people, the longevity of D3 is less than D2.
Last thing I'll say... part of the reason Achievements are a part of so many games now is that a portion of the audience will continue to play the game simply to get those achievements.
Personally, I don't care about them at all. But perhaps some of the more casual fans will play it longer in order to get those achievemensts.
Did anyone actually play diablo 2 before LoD was released? With the exception of a few items, rares were the best items in the game. Hell imbues were half the reason i even leveled alts.
