After looking through the item database, I'm really happy. I can't believe they added Oculus Rings. That's a direct copy of the "Occy Ring" which was a hacked item in Diablo II that put the stats of the Oculus, a sorceress stave, onto a ring. That's incredible. They are also bringing back some old favorites like Mara's, Tyrael's Might and Bul-Kathos' Wedding Band. I'm so impressed.
Old news, I'm sure, but, this is cool as hell.

Yeah, they seem to be paying a lot of homage to the past games and i'm loving it. True, they've taken some liberties like with adria, but in general, i'm glad to see them bringing up characters and items from past games.
I'm just stoked about Azurewrath. It looks brilliant, and I'm glad to see it's back.
I will say that I hope they make the legendary items more unique (excuse the pun). In D2 they had some very interesting stats, but so far they look kinda generic.

I still have the patch 1.09 Azurewrath Crystal Sword on Diablo II. That thing is legendary. The Phase Blade version was better but still lame. I'm stoked as well about Azurewrath being a kickass legendary in D3.

I'm happy with the items seen at the community website and we all know that that's only tip of the iceberg.
I just wish though that there's more color ranking. Having only 3 (blue, yellow, orange) real colors (possibly 4 now that crafted sets is in green text) seems a bit underwhelming versus the sheer size of loot that's found in the game. I was hoping for something like:
White - we all know no one will equip this other than the first 2-3 hours of the game Green - set items Blue - regular magic items Dark Blue - upgraded magic items (has unique affixes than regular blue) Yellow - rare Dark Gold - unique (makes a come back, maybe) (sorry forum doesn't have gold like text color) Orange - normal to nighmare Dark Orange - hell to inferno Red - god slaying?
I know it's just colors but things like this excites me. Borderlands kinda have this kind of color coding and its very satisfying that even items colors has progression.

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.

I like the idea you've got there. Too many item types might appear a bit daunting, but it distinguishes it so much more.
I especially love the concept of difficulty exclusive items. What I'd really like to see is them implementing more difficulty exclusive content, like events, item properties, monsters, and boss battles.
But I like your suggestion.
I was just happy to discover that not only were they bringing back sets, they're bringing back Tal's set. Ethe is happy.
I agree. I loved sets in D2!
The only thing I dislike is that they brought back the soj. The stone of recall and the cauldron of Jordan are a tribute to the soj, so having the ring there as well is just overkill.

On this subject and general idea, items aren't listed, as far as I can see, for nightmare, hell, etc., but the materials you get are based on that. Is an item flagged as a "nightmare" item if you pick it up in nightmare or are items of certain level ranges flagged that way, i.e. 1-30 normal, 31-50 nightmare, etc. That doesn't quite make sense because then level 60's that drop in hell, assuming they do, would be listed as inferno items.

Anyone know yet how this works?
You raise a good point. Without knowing where the item came from whether you bought it from the AH or you simply forgot which difficulty it was found in, how can we know whether it is worth salvaging or not?

I get where your coming from but I would have to disagree with some aspects of your post. Although I think three colours isn't enough, going over five would be over the top. If multiple different items dropped at the same time it would be like looking at a rainbow, which would be totes ridic.
Considering that this is probably only a fraction of the items that will be in the game and the fact that the "best" items will probably wind up being ones with six awesome random affixes that are better than any of the legandaries in the game.

I hope ,that its just placeholder
and those items will have some fixed properties + random ones,
if no ,its just the same gamble system of diablo 2 ,
but more expensive and time consuming.
I"m not really excited about the unique mods right now, specialy in uniques.
I was expecting for totally CRAZY stuff like:
* Reduces the speed of all nearby enemies
* % chance to instant kill enemies (deals 10% HP damage vs. bosses and uniques)
* % chance on hit to automatically use any of your skills without using energy or activating cooldowns (wizard and wd only)
I think unques should have really unique effect, nalmost like an passive skill.

You can't make items that powerful or you make them the only item anyone will ever use, which is exactly what Blizzard is trying to avoid.
I am a little bummed about what seems to be a lack of visual change from equipping items. No matter what hat the DH wears, it looks like a hood? Different boots all look the same.. dunno. just seems like a departure from D2

I'm afraid of Apple customers. Wait until they make the iCar -you can't change the floormats and only Apple sells the gas. Don't worry, they'll buy it.

It was magic and even could be bought from Griswold.
