Obviously the class you play will probably dictate which follower suits your playstyle, so feel free to elaborate with class + follower combinations!
I think Witch Doctor + Templar as a further means of keeping enemies at a distance would be an effective combo; I also think that a Demon Hunter + Scoundrel would be pretty sweet, even just visually.
edit: The caveat being we haven't heard as of this posting 100% from Blizzard that this is legit, but it seems to be.
Scoundrel. I need some artillery support while I'm tearing zombies new asses with my bare hands. But I want someone who can nut up and take a few punches if I'm in a pinch.
Edit: 1st class is Barb, so it makes sense to have ranged just arrow baddies with power shot, multi-shot and crippling shot, while the my barb holds all aggro. Only issue I see is if the Scoundrel gets flanked, or it's tight quarters, he's gonna take some damage.. but he has "dirty fighting" and "vanish," so that should give me sufficient time to help him out.

I won't be trying any of them. I never liked to control/have more then 1 char when I play a game. I never used mercs in D2, and I'll never use followers in D3.
I know you don't CONTROL them, but just the fact that they are there sticking in your ass all the time doign stuff you don't want them to do, killing your kills makes me want to kill them myself.
i'll probably get a scoundrel for my Wizard with gold find/scavenge skills. the enemies won't even get near me anyway. for the melees i think i'd go... scoundrel again. using templar for witch doctor and demon hunter. i'm not sure i'll use the enchantress. maybe if i have problems on (one of) my wizards i'd use her for lower resists.
Maybe Enchantress to lower resistances for my Wizard? Or the Scoundrel for his treasure hunting? We'll probably be limited to whichever is unlocked first.
Something tells me this video was prepared for Blizzcon.
Blizzard and their obsession for Blizzcon.... really pisses me off.
Puts everything one step behind just because they have to prepare speech, video, presentations for audience.
This could be more efficient if they just dedicate their time into creating a diablo universe youtube channel, just like what Black ops did. Got millions of views in one day for their multiplayer footage.
Spending time out of development to make 30 thousand nerds happy in blizzcon...... Not so smart.
This is based off the the assumption that a Templar can truly be a good tank. Since Barbs are either really good tanks, or really high damage output, or a little of both I'd like to have a high damage output Barb, and a tanking Templar to take some of the heat off me.

wow... do you realize how wrong you are in that statement? Blizzard has already on numerous occasions stated that they are going to reveal every game system that is left to be announced in the game before the external beta testing begin. And as we were told on May 9th the Diablo 3 beta is to launch somewhere in Q3 2011 (Q3 = July - September).
Explain to me how they can save this for Blizzcon and at the same time announce the follower system before beta begins...
You make me confused :/
On topic: I think I'm gonna start playing the barbarian and even though The Enchantress or Scoundrel would fit and make a possible good combination I figure why not have another more "tank-ish" follower, known as the Templar by my side?!
Hmm.... Well it all depends when the "BETA" is...
What if beta doesn't start before Blizzcon?
And also, if Blizzard wanted to release the video, it would be either on their main site or on their youtube channel.
Not on Force's channel. So this leads to my speculation that the video we see right now wasn't meant to be released right now.... Who leaked it? was it one of blizzards employee? where was this video first posted?

Even if it wasn't meant to be released today/this week/even this month, we've got a long time to the Q3 beta, even at it's earliest. Knowing they've explicitly admitted to knowing exactly when/how they were discussing the final systems and saying as well we'd see all systems before beta, there's no reason to suspect this was made for Blizzcon, and a half a dozen at least to suspect it was made for a reveal in the near future, if not immediate future. It's not on the main site yet because, well, it's a leak.

Maximum damage output. I'll be very useful for boss raids as I'll have low def but high dmg
For my second character though it's Wiz/temp can you say meat shield? That's a nice try.
When I make a doc though going to have to be chant extra damage in back.

As to its legitimacy/purpose think its probably real and don't care!

However, if the friend I expect to be playing alongside backs out, I might switch to Barb/Scoundrel.
In progress: Barbarian, WD
