I thought that from the Blizzcon 09' footage that D3 was a little too much visually speaking when grouped up with all four players. Each spell seen by itself looks amazing but when you add up all of those spells plus the spells from the other three players and unleash them all in a minute of gameplay it get distracting. If you don't agree with me than watch this VIDEO at 6:37 - 7:25. When I saw this part my eyes went spinning and my head almost exploded. Don't get me wrong, I love the effects and what they can do to this franchise after 10 years of technology improvements. I will also be playing primarily single player so it is not that big of a deal to me. I just think that either a toggle needs to be incorporated or when you are in a group that the graphics can be taken down a notch.

This has been talked about a lot, and for good reason. I completly agree that it's gone overboard with blood, explosions, and other effects. And don't get me wrong, I love blood and explosions.
Another thing (kind of related) that bugs me to a lesser extent is all the effects seem a bit soft/blurred/undefined. There's a lack of texture and depth.
I fail to agree with you on a few things.
I love all the blood, and carnage! It reeks Diablo3
To be honest, the soft/blurred images and spells are a result of the very well done graphics. thats just my opinion.
I didnt see any lack of texture in the videos, I thought it looked great.
Diablo3 should be somewhat overboard with blood and gore, were talkin bout killing hordes of monsters with very chaotic attacks.
Blood and body parts should spray everywhere. I think its well balanced.
It kinda gives you the idea of you attack being very powerful.

to summarize what i have said in the same threads.
It is different when you are watching a video of a game and when you are actually playing the game.
there are tons of games that look a mess in a video but when you are playing the game, it doesn't look or feel messy at all.
if that is a problem wouldn't there be alot of threads by people who have played the demo complaining about it?
and since i have not read a single thread on that, i can double confirm my opinion
Actually, a lot of people who played the demo did say it was too busy. That is why Blizzard themselves have said that they take it to an extreme and then dial it down if they need to. A lot of people had the same concern and that is why it has been mentioned by blizzard that they might have to tone it down. they have said they don't want the graphics getting in the way of gamelpay. Also, if you think it will be better when you are playing it. During that minute of gamelpay, try and click on some enemies while it is playing.
there, that double confirms my opinion.

I don't think that Diablo 3 is visually busy, I think the Monk class is visually busy. The skill in particular is the exploding heart skill. There is little reason for a person NOT to use this skill, and this skill seems overpowered, and will lead to the overuse and abuse of this skill.
In the game play videos, it seems that the monk always finishes with the exploding palm skill, to the point where they are executing the same combos over and over, no matter what the monster type.
I suggest that the exploding palm skill be modified so that to cast the last stage that causes the bleed effect and ultimately the explodeing AOE effect have a 1-2 second cast rate, where it shows the monk doing really fast animations with his hands hitting the pressure points on the target to trigger this effect. During this period, he is unable to dodge and block incoming attacks.
This in effect will make this spell more balance and give it less incentive to be spamable. To spam this spell it would require the monk to slow down game play slightly with the cast time.
And him not being able to block or dodge will give the skill sufficient risk to reward ratio. Because it is an AOE skill and pretty much kills everything around the target(from what I've seen from the game play video), the damage received during this cast period is correlated to the total damage the monk will put out to the monsters around him. The more monsters around the monk when he casts this skill, the more damage he will take from being attacked by all of these monsters, but at the same time, the more effective the exploding AOE effect will become.
Well this is news to me. I never knew that Blizzard is working on toning the effects and the blood and gore down. I'm glad they are though. As it is now, everything's too flashy and busy and the gore is just over-the-top to the point of being cartoonish. Always nice to see Blizzard listening to feedback.
Yeah, and that's cool. It was said I don't know how many times at this BlizzCon alone that we're always working against the issue of having too many effects that are too crazy and over the top going off at the same time. So yeah, it's always a potential problem. I just don't think our artists need to be drawn a schematic of how to fix it. They're paid professionals, they do this for a living.
Well im on the same boat as everyone else that says the effects are too much. Seriously those need to be toned down, everytime i kill a fallen i dont want a blood tower to come out of their body.

I agree with Soul, D3 does have alot of improvements over D2 and D1. I dont agree with everything their changing and some of the ways their doing it, but its looking like a pretty good game so far.

I like the art style, and pretty much everything else Ive heard about D3 so far, but yes, too much seems to be going on. Spells and corpses exploding everywhere. They look fine, it just too much/often. I really hope they tone it down, but it seems like Blizz is already aware of it, so I'm not really worried either

I disagree, its both. They both have completely over the top effects and it all look silly.
Seriously?

In my opinion, the WD is the most visually sound from the 4 announced classes.
If they keep up with this, let's just hope they include sunglasses from the box.:)
