I was just watching that gameplay trailer for the... well I have no idea what count I am at now. But anyway. In the very beginning with the goblins when the barbarian is just smoking them I starting looking at the health bars where the mouse was "mousing over" the enemies. Eventually its all I could see. When you actually look at the health bars they kind of really get in the way A LOT. I mean, to really see what i'm talking about for the threads benefit, go watch the video with the goblin part in the beginning and look for the health bars poping up. I mean it was like getting in the way really badly. Hopefully they can put an option in to toggle the bars on//off. or make them at the top of your screen like the boss fights. Cuz they were just in the way for me badly, it was like they were eating the screen lol I could not even see the barbarian most of the time, or the health orbs that were dropping because the bars were always covering them.

If you get personally attacked by letters through the internet its a good thing to always have a box of tissues and a band-aid around.
That's so that you know what you are targeting at any point. D1 put a thick red line that outlined the sprite, and D2 highlighted enemies when you mouse-over them. Neither would fit a realistic 3D game such as D3.

they should get something else, like a cursor animation, those bars are in the way

The health bar thing really isn't a big deal. most likely you could turn it off if you wanted to same as the the damage number that pops up when the barb is destroying the tables. they are there for assistance and somewhat for show, so i think they will have a way to turn them off in the option menu.

My life is like a dragon, first praised, then hated, now lost.
I agree, something as simple as being able to toggle how health bars appear or even just whether they appear would be a huge step forward from being forced to deal with the health bars now being right in your face as opposed to towards the top or to the side or some such.
its just so simple: toggling between classic and individual health bars. The tiniest effort and suddenly the game is that much less annoying to those people who liked the previous method better.
well, they could still easily add something else. I mean the bars are just way to big and long "k that sounded kinda weird lol" but its true. Plus they were only goblins which... seemed like one of the lowly type of monster to be taking out early in the game. Those big health bars just for goblins is sorta strange.
They could just have a cursor animation so when you mouse over an enemy it changes instantly or something, and just have the health bar at the very top of the screen like how it was for when fighting a boss. I keep watching that goblin part with the barb in the gameplay video and i cant stop thinking how annoying those bars are.

The health bars in Diablo 2 were fine. There was nothing wrong with them. Blizzard has gotten to the point where they want NOTHING to be the same as in Diablo 2. There's no reason to change the health bars especially when doing so obstructs gameplay. Another stupid move on Blizzard's part.

It may still be fun, but it will be World of Diablo.

So you like the discoloration in monsters?

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
Not necessarily, but I think the health bar system was perfectly fine, minus the enemy discoloration. It didn't really bother me much, but i'm sure there are other ways to show which monster you have targeted, such as a small cursor or the like.

those bars are so big its hard to really see what your looking at though. I'd rather enjoy the nice diablo 3 visuals with a cursor animation or bars with hugely faded opacity than those.

I can't stand all the stuff they put on the battle field, like floating text and health bars. Curses and buffs are one thing, they are part of the game world, but to have the health bar and text on the screen is fugly. Blizzard, you gave us beautiful terrain and environments; don't block them!
