Probably not, mainly because you cant see your characters face anyway from a distance.
I'd like to see hair change though, like colors//style. That would be more noticeable from far away. Once you put a helm on though that will be nullified aswell. Unless they have a feature where you can toggle helm visuals on.//.off

If you get personally attacked by letters through the internet its a good thing to always have a box of tissues and a band-aid around.
I think that the male/female thing is as far as it should go personally. You should be able to step into the characters shoes without making the character into you. You get what I am saying?
Not customizing a class in d2 gave each "class" more of a Character or personality, which ultimately rounded off the sense of atmosphere that made me love d2 as much as I did. I like the gender addition, but would probably prefer no face customization.
In the end it doesnt matter too much to me.

Diablo has kind of always been about the heroes they want you to play in the story. I'm surprised we even get to choose the sex.
