97%? where did you obtain this statistic? and you gotta admit there probably gona end up being very similar
WD and necro are not that similar at all.
First the necro were a above all things a suport/tank class in PvM. Dont flame me yet.
Just think what was the most usefull thing a necro could offer in a run ?
First: Summons.
And for what those hordes of skeletons were usefull ? To put a huge amount of targets for the monster and they would allmost never attack a allie. Tank.
Second: Curses.
Amplify damage doubled the physical dps(!!). Lower resist could make soc kill almost anything with half a hit. Life tap was surelly the best healing skill in diablo (for melee character of course). Confuse/Terror/Din Vision was freking good crowd control, even through cc were never that usefull in d2... And the best thing: you could get all those amazing powers with less then 10 skill points in curses, cause almost all curses get their full effect at level 1, others level just increase duration and aoe.
Third: Damage.
The necromancer damaging spells were not bad, especially poison nova and corpse explosion. Still necromancer's firepower are surelly inferior to a amazon or soc.
Until now i 've no clue of WD doing such things. He got summons, but it looks like druid's wolfs (wich were good for dps but not for tanking) but even weaker. So i don't see Wd offering the necro's meat shield.
Also the WD curses are more centered at crowd controls not at increase party effectiviness like necromancers amplify dmg, lower res and life tap.
And it seens that the WD will have a much stronger firepower then the necromancer.
So imo, the Wd looks like a elemental druid then a necro.
There are only so many possibilities of what we can expect, you know one of the classes is going to be shooting arrows, all they can do is throw a little geographical lore onto the character to justify why it's arrows are different than the last archers.
The improved game play, graphics, and storyline will be what makes the game better. All though my wife is a bit bummed she has to look at an aging barbarian while the female one gets to be young. I think she enjoyed looking at a youthful, veril, muscular, scantily clad fighter rippling with heroic energy LOL!
He was an important character in D2 as much as he will be in D3. They have basically brought back Sorceress, fixed Necromancer and changed him to Witch Doctor and have barbarian. Just because the name and look Didn't change Doesn't mean that he is less new and exciting to play. He has some new skills anyway, so it's nothing to worry about too much.
The Barbarian is a great class that I think is too important to leave out. The Barb's appaearance alone is awesome in that he can appear like a uber muscular he-man/kratos type dude or be a fully armored berserker covered in spikes n stuff. Not to mention its a friggin MANLY class to play as, unlike the characters in so many games these days *cough* final fantasy XII *cough.* I think his involvement in diablo is hella important.
Blizzard did the right thing, and here is why. We all know that us Diablo fans, are the biggest naggers, complainers, moaners...etc. Say they did another class, called it "The Death Mauler" or whatever nifty name, gave that character a lot of muscles, some long hair, and a couple of tattoos. Then what do they do? They give him the Whirlwind, just rename it to The Dance of Death, and rename Leap, calling it Heavenly Assault or something. Can you begin to imagine all the nagging that would occur, with stuff like "OMG..THEY THINK WE'RE DUMB! IT'S JUST THE BARBARIAN WITH A DIFFERENT NAME!"? So, they just spared us the speculation, and spared themselves the trouble of having to put up with constant fanboi bitching. Putting up a versatile Barbarian that isn't just a pseudo-bouncer type of character, that has more than one dimension would be more than marvelous, and that's hopefuly what they're aiming at.
i lol'd pretty fucking hard at that some great names u have there
I think it was a good choice to bring back the barb. His story might be very interesting too since he was around since D2. Besides I see him; as others have said; as almost iconic to the Diablo franchise. With new skills it will also probably be fun to "revisit". I also have no doubt that Necromancer will be back; there is way too much lore from the books for the class not to come back.
I think it was a good idea because the BARB was in the middle of everyone. The staple class.
See, always bring back the class that's in the middle of the character selection screen. You would be stupid not to!!!
In all honesty I think I would have to sort of agree with what the devs had been talking about though. The barbarian is a class that could have been improved upon immensely in Diablo 2, so why not bring those changes over into a game where he can be a contender while at the same time being the awesome melee class he is suppose to be. Maybe I am just rambling, but those are my thoughts at least.
Wasn't the barb nerfd to bejesus and back? I hear from a lot of people saying the ww was nerfed so many times to the point of it be useless unless its lvl 40+.
I think the barb was cool, but it was severally useless in pvp. Most of the times i see a ww barb come in and teleport to a person and instantly die. If you see a concentration barb you laugh your ass off at them for being such a useless class. One of the funniest barb classes i've been was BO (not strictly battle orders, but the one where his shouts hurt people) barb (i try to not be a cookie cutter).
But they were mana whores, not even 3000 mana was good enough to help them. But that type of class was useless in pvp.

SAY WHAT AGAIN, I DARE YOU, I DOUBLE DARE YOU MOTHER ******
Maybe its just my favoritism talking here but the fact the all the other Heroes went insane due to the events of Diablo 2 and the Barbarian survived is just so badass and depicts everything Barbarians are thought to be.
I can only hope to kill some of the old Heroes and the Barb uttering " Rest well, Old friend."
To me it doesn't really seem like the barbarian has returned. Sure, some of the skills will be the same, but he's so much more different than he was originally. I'd say that the similarities between the warrior in D1 and the barbar in D2 are akin to the similarties seen between the D2 barbar and the D3 barbar. An evolved, more versatile version. If you called it by another name would it make a differece?
In all actuality I think the barabian plays a central role in the storyline being so close to the worldstone and this is the reason it's the same name, as eluded to in the first post.
Well the Barbarian was my favorite character in Diablo 2 so I would have to say I'm pretty excited about seeing him/her (as of D3....). I'm excited to see and use some crazy new moves and I like how they are looking to incorporate "Ancestral" powers that the Barbar can channel. Makes me think of HeMan.
"I have the power!!!"
I think it'll be good to have one character that people are really familiar with, but with some new steps in his dance.
enough ranting...
I just can't wait to play this friggin game!
