My first post on this site, just want to start a little debate over which style of multiplayer you guys would like to see.
Me and my friend had a good idea going, way back when WoW first came out. I knew what it was, but I (to this day) don't play. I brought up the idea that it should be WoW-like in terms of multiplayer. That it should be an open server for people to just rummage through and do as they please. I could see how this could pose problems in terms of storyline and quests, but I believe Blizzard could have worked on the kinks of that.
Then, he brought up, similar to horde vs alliance, heaven vs hell. Possible archangel class. Possible death knight class, whatever.
So It's almost a given it's going to be classic D2 multiplayer, but what do you guys want to see? Open multi or rooms?
Those choices are a bit too vague... But I like open spaces like in Act 1.

What is normal? Normal is a concept that everyone or a majority of people are the same or similar. However, we know that everyone is unique. If everyone is unique, then everyone is different. If everyone is different, then everyone is weird. If everyone is weird, then everyone is normal.
Hey! That wasn't part of the deal~ The thread starter said may Blizzard find out a solution. And if there is ever that solution, I'd chose open world any day

I've played WoW and although the fact that you can play with thousands of players is appealing for a while, I want Diablo 3 to keep the old fashion style of multiplayer. Although, I don't mind if it went up to 12 players, but I like the intimate and immersing factor of a small group fighting evil :).
Wasn't D2 system good as it is?WoW sucks really bad already, and what I like about D2 BNet is that youi can put a password for you game, you don't have KS if you do so etc.

Well, myself and many others like to join public games as it is easy access to complete quests. I remember the days where I simply made a game called "Act 2 Tal Rasha" and the game would fill up in seconds. The public game titles add a direct and simple approach to goals... Making private games may be good if you're in a clan or you have a bunch of buddies, but I loved playing pubbies.
Blizzard could have the regular rooms for questing/leveling/killingmonsters. While another room can be simpler with maybe just vendors in a town where people can trade.
Have a massive trade room which could hold more people in the game because there would be less things needing to be loaded.

I was JUST thinking that as I went to get a bite to eat.
One central, open room, instead of the lobby (preferably a HUGE tristram) . In this room, players can trade, chat, and NPC. An openable menu should display rooms where players can join to fight.
Also possible:
1. Selectable 'Lobby-Towns' (Choose between Kurast Docks, Rogue Encampment, etc.). Rooms restricted to town you are in. Ill use a D2 reference. If you are in Harrograth, games for Izual will not appear. Only Baal, Bloodrunz, Ancients, etc.
2. Servers. But instead of the same thing, make each server a different town.

This would be nice. A Trade Game. Just like a channel but u join a game. It could be some town that you can find in normal game as well, some kind of market area.
i definitely like the good ol' 8 person rooms. i dont want it to be filled to the brim with players. i love the player made games.
Yeah this is ok. But if the end game and the whole world is huge. I would like to see a 12 or 16 player games. Altho limit the party size to 4-8 players.
gtfo wow lover.
it would be like every other mmo
they become jobs.. no longer games basically
Hah read the first post. I don't play WoW. I don't like that my friends are sucked into the abyss they call a game. I just like the Idea of a central area where users can communicate with many others at once. Trading would be easier. No more shouting in the lobby "105 GF TRADING FOR 67 SS" (I know thats probably jibberish, but i didnt take the game seriously, just played with friends).
u mean like over all multiplayer style of the game? cuz for some odd reason when "multiplayer" enetered my mind i was thinking of pvp. and i like my pvp full out, know'm sayin? but yeah, if its over all multiplayer, i think id like the rooms idea better. the rooms one kinda goes off the traditional mmorpg style and becomes a little bit more like FPS games, where u join servers to play, but just like what Assign said, people would just camp and camp certain things and it would just ruin it.
so... basically the "rooms", or "servers" are kinda like entering an instance right? you, or youre party are the only ones online in that room right? and everything is 100%, no interruptions? so kinda like guild wars? dungeon runners? hehe sorry guys its been a looooong time since i even looked at d2 and i didnt even play it as long as most of u have, but i still love it.
For the trade room I could see Blizzard making something really nice. Not just the town from different acts. (Are they doing acts still, I hope so). The golf game Albatross18 (Pangya) has this idea of trade rooms where you can set up your character make a mini-shop by putting your items up and putting the amount of gold you want for it. If someone comes by and wants the item, they buy it and you don't need to be there.
One of the few things I liked in my trial of playing WoW was the Auction house. Plus gold would be more important, with either of those implemented.
The player made games with choosing titles like "Anceints need WP" etc, really worked well. I've tried other action rpgs online and their systems were horrible compared to D2.

Blizzard please read the above which i fully agreed with
It'd be crazy, besides I'm pretty sure the map isn't as big as WoW's.
