What is normal? Normal is a concept that everyone or a majority of people are the same or similar. However, we know that everyone is unique. If everyone is unique, then everyone is different. If everyone is different, then everyone is weird. If everyone is weird, then everyone is normal.
All Diablo fans that complain about Diablo III's art direction have to just shut up and trust Blizzard. You guys call yourselves fans, but it seems like you don't even thank Blizzard for coming up with Diablo III. Why can't you all just accept change, Blizzard also stated that there will be dark and gothic places. So many complainers.
Don't get me wrong, I have played Diablo I & II & LOD and I am a HUGE Diablo fan.
Some of you people are fucking retarded. We, as fans, have every right to offer Blizzard constructive crticism; stop kissing Blizzards arse. They're big boys, they don't give a fuck about the people defending them, whereas they're actually taking notice of the people criticising them, because, believe it or not, we're the ones doing them a favour and all of you bloody fan-boys aren't doing shit. Do you people really think that Blizzard employees get off on knowing a bunch of nerdy little kids are constantly praising them on message boards? Change the fucking record already, constructive criticism is fine; you people aren't Blizzard's knight in shining armor, they don't need you, get the fuck over yourselves.
Ah yes, an intelligent post from someone who joined when.. oh July 2008. Yes another Johnny come lately. Please son, find a new home with a tone like yours.

You know that intelligence is in no way related to forum registration date?
That wasn't my point. My point is that from looking at his post, he's just another person that now that D3 has been announced, decided to join and complain because he didn't like it. So after he called some of us "fucking retards" and then ranted and raved, I said his post was "intelligent". Anyway.. back to the topic since I'm sure this will be deleted in the future.

I hope they will take this petition seriously, just because one retard like you is not happy.
.
Amazing job of photoshopping pics that you guys are doing. It doesn't help your case at all. Distorting pics of the demo, and then passing them around to sway public opinion is about as flawed as anything could get.
Here are some facts:
1) The petition is already bogus, because it has fake names on it. Lots of fake names. The results are invalid.
2) You've seen a small fraction of the game, a small demo. You don't even know if that level IS in the game, and what part it is. That might have been a map made just for this demo.
3) You don't know what color settings the demo was made in. What gamma settings did they use? What filming method? How do you know they didn't turn up the gamma, just for demonstration purposes? Having a demo be mostly dark would be dumb.
4) What do the later areas look like? What about Hell areas? More corrupt areas?
5) This is no longer the age of sprite graphics. Welcome to 2008, we have dynamic lighting and a much larger color pallette to use.
The heart and soul of the Diablo games has always been two things: Presentation of story, and exciting hack and slash against overwhelming odds. Gameplay decides the game, not fond memories of limited sprite graphics.

Petitions are bogus and invalid, when anyone can sign up multiple times using fake names. The end result is that valid concerns fail to get heard, when drowned out like this.
so we think that Blizzard will give us money or some exchanges and because of that we dont agree with you? well im sure if Blizzard has made Diablo play-to-pay they would had much more earnings, but they did what we want, free battle.net, isometric view, more randomness but hey u guys arent appreciate nothing! go play alone in the DARK haha
haha right on man. *cry sniff sniff* they arent making it the way *sniff* I want it.....*cries* IT ISNT FAIR MOMMY...I WANT THIS I WANT THAT.....psh stop yalls bitching and moaning. I'm all for constructive criticism, but dont blow a fucking neck vein b/c the game isnt exactly how you expect.
Just an oppinion about that "constructive criticism" :
If you want the game to look more grey and gothic, reduce the brightness from the monitor
Or if you don't like that, play with the 3 colors (there is an option at the video card properties) until you have the right colour.
Solved the problem in 30 seconds, without modifying the entire graphic concept of the game, which would add a couple of extra months at the release date. In my oppinion, all those modified pictures from the petition article were made by modifying just a little some of the colors by using photoshop. No other effects were added, and if they were they would be pretty difficult to implement (I could be wrong, I'm not such a photoshop / game programer"expert")
So ... focus your energy on constructive criticism, not on these kinds of things.

In a universe that defies description, all systems of belief can only be false For here you will find nothing in order and order in nothing
smiling statues and badly textured armour are my only problems with this game atm.
Sometimes, just sometimes, gargoyles smile. Its an evil smile... you ever hear of the cow level? Sheeeesh even if it was a bit of cutish humor it isn't like Diablo hasn't had it before.
I labelled the 25,000 people shallow for making such dramatic accusations and judgement based off a 20 minute *gameplay* trailer. Nothing more, nothing less. Not because our opinions differ, but purely because those 25,000 people are making a mountain out of a molehill over a game they haven't played, and has onlyl just made it into a playable state if interviews are anything to go by.
I have more rights to call the 25,000 people shallow as you do calling me a retard. You have no evidence on which to base your claim, I however can simply look at the article that people have been signing in agreement. The piece written that people have been signing (signing means you're agreeing with what's stated) is incredibly shallow.
I've not said 'they should stick with this art!', and also haven't said I hate the art. I remain indifferent as it's a work in progress.
How can you claim that 'clearly something is wrong' when you haven't played the game in person, and have only seen an early (pre-alpha, incredibly pre-alpha) version of the game. Oh that's right, you're being shallow.
That said, the progress looks absolutely amazing.
I agree with you on that. What they showed was the first glimpse of Diablo 3. They don't even have a release date of the game. We don't know anything other than it's a demo of D3 and is subject to be different at any point of the actual game itself in the future. It was only a small piece and saying the rest of the game is going to have the same "feel" is poor speculation.

So u have the right for "criticism" but i have to learn perfect english to say my opinion? nice nice oh better make a petition about my english too
oh and about money im asking again, if you want to buy a car and you dont like the engine, will you do a petition to change the engine or you will not buy it??
There is no definitive value applied to producing a well scripted response to work you want to criticize. On that notion, it should be fair to judge someone's feelings towards an issue based on the time they've taken to appropriately edit and revise their writing. This way we can properly judge your opinions, that are well thought out and educated.
Some of you people are fucking retarded. We, as fans, have every right to offer Blizzard constructive crticism; stop kissing Blizzards arse. So you obviously think YOU (alone) with all of your ideas, is considering something that THEY (ALL DEVELOPMENT TEAM... SOME OF THE BEST ON THIS...) forgot to, right?
Amazing job of photoshopping pics that you guys are doing. It doesn't help your case at all. Distorting pics of the demo, and then passing them around to sway public opinion is about as flawed as anything could get.

5) This is no longer the age of sprite graphics. Welcome to 2008, we have dynamic lighting and a much larger color pallette to use.
-The heart and soul of the Diablo games has always been two things: Presentation of story, and exciting hack and slash against overwhelming odds. Gameplay decides the game, not fond memories of limited sprite graphics.
-The results of just about any petition won't be entirely valid, but I've seen more than enough people discuss this issue on any discussion board enough to know that a good number of people do not agree with the art direction that blizzard is taking.
-While we have seen a small fraction of the game, if you've paid attention to what the art director for the game has said, you'd know that the 20 minutes of game play fall directly into line with what he intends to see in the game. He stated that the team intends to use liberal use of color to depict mood and set a theme, and what you see in the video is a liberal use of color that doesn't depict mood very well at all. The lighting in the crypt has deep color hues from 5 different points on the color spectrum and doesn't follow an analogous color scheme. Instead of depicting mood and theme, they generate a fantasy scheme with their selections, which isn't fitting for a Diablo title. We've seen or heard absolutely no indication that the game is going to change in anyway as the story progresses, in fact most of what we've heard would suggest otherwise.
-Color settings are irrelevant. Blizzard is not stupid enough to film any demonstration video in anything other than 1.0 gamma space. They are not using gamma profiles, and I should also mention that my monitor is calibrated to 2.2 gamma space, and I still don't think the game looks as good as it could.
-Other areas of the game may look slightly different, but again, the art team has stated they don't want to establish a dark game by using dark colors. They've said they want to use color to convey mood, which would suggest these areas won't be very dark at all. They have specifically stated that they want to avoid darkness, rather than use it in the same way as the previous titles.
-Whether or not the game is 2d or 3d is absolutely irrelevant. I think the issue at heart is the notion that because you have all sorts of color on your palette doesn't necessarily mean you need to use them all. In all my years of looking at traditional art, the artworks that have stuck with me and that I adore are generally the ones that are strongly punctual and simplistic in scheme. If you were to use too many different tones at once, I would generally find it difficult to associate with something. In the same way, if you were to use no color you'd find it hard to bring up any emotions tied to the artwork. A game is very much the same, and you MUST walk a very fine line to convey these ideas.
I've found that the concept artists have a much better understanding of color theory than the art director or people who actually lit those areas. I don't find that particularly surprising considering most of the concept artists are the ones who have spent a considerably longer time studying traditional art theory than the rest of the development team. Unfortunately in hue, the game's screenshots do not match what was seen in the concepts, and I think it's a very fair point to indicate that to Blizzard. If you don't think it's reasonable for us to tell them to listen to us, then they really ought to be looking at what their own concept artists think, because for me... those guys are the only ones who have produced something that looks exactly like it should.
I agree with what you are saying about game, but involving english in discussion is wrong, as you may imagine a lot of people are not native english speakers, and even if they are, grammar on internet is serious business.
Ok nobody can say that you have to be fluent at English to properly state your point for or against, but if the forum is in English and the audience speak it fluently; then it is best to inform them that it isn't your first language or that you may not have it fully mastered.
If you have a real problem with the darkness, turn down ur contrast. Those graphics and lighting are probably not going to be the final product so just give it time and let blizzard do what they do. Not to mention, the lighting couldve been enhanced during the presentation as they do not want the people squinting and looking around for the artwork that they had worked hard on. I believe in blizz.
I have read a couple of posts and one thing that struck my mind... everyone knows everything Its amazing how ppl that doesnt own a multimillion $$ company have so much to say, and by seeing a 19 min video that only show 0.5% of the game content have figured out the whole game. Same with S2. For a fact I am glad that Blizzard doesnt listen to the small portion of idiots because that will mess up their games.
If you know what the ppl want, go out and write your own game, lets see how far you get. For a fact I know, the ppl that is wining about this and that, they will be the first to stand in line for S2 and D3. So what if some stuff is wowish, 10 Million+ ppl is playing wow, I guess Blizzard must be doing something right. If you dont like the brighter colors, set your screen darker, but really, with all the wining going on, earth will run out of cheese to go with that. Blizzard isnt gonna change stuff because 1% of the player base doesnt link this or that, they will stick with what they do best, and that is make amazing games that everyone can play and enjoy.
I'm not saying me alone, I'm talking about the nearing-30,000 people that have signed the petition. I think that Blizzard are more concerned with 30,000 people that are so unhappy with Diablo III's art-style that they've signed a petition, than the 10-20 nerds that's hearts are bleeding for Blizzard; Blizzard don't give a fuck whether you praise them or not, as long as they get your hard earned cash, that's all they care about.
30,000 people that are unhappy, at least 3/4 of those who are unhappy will continue to buy the game anyway. Millions of fans that are happy and will buy the game. So you're saying for a few thousand people that might not buy the game, they should change it? Apparently it is your heart that is bleeding. I bet you'll be one of the 3/4 of unhappy people that are first in line to buy Diablo 3 too.

Fans or people do get the right to criticize but you guys are complaining about something that isn't suppose to be complained about. In my point of view, Diablo III looks like a fresh, kickass game. You fans can complain but you guys are complaining for stupid shit like how colorful it is and how cartoonish it looks. Blizzard said there will be a contrast and there will be dark and gloomy places in the game. And so what if the characters look a little cartoonish, at least they look badass. So all those "fans" should just shut up and complain about something there is to complain.
