It would be more logical if they save some for the expansion.
Oh, absolutely, but there is also the possibility that they come up with completely new material for the expansion. Mind you, someone here said that Blizzard is notoriously unoriginal as far as creating new classes, opting to alter current archetypes in new and innovative ways instead. I'm not sure how accurate this statement is, but it's all food for thought.
It's probably going to be a ranger, guys. A sneaky, deadly ranger.
Which begs the question: how many archetypes have been left unexplored in contemporary fantasy gaming? It certainly seems that we've reached the end of our creative abilities with regards to new ideas. Are all future "classes" simply going to be variants of existing concepts?
Thats actually a very good question. Im sure they can always come up with something new, no matter how stupid it is, but for the time being we seem to be stuck with remakes of old classes.

Yea those are the Basic characters of any rpg, and actually the majority of fantasy games.

Well thats one thing i liked about BG2 is that they had the basic classes, but each one had its one different kit. So you could be a druid but it could be a totemic druid that summons spirit animals, or a Ranger could use the Archer kit and focus on bows.

True there really isnt much left so we'll see what happens with future RPG's and other games.

I'm just saying that it would just be a big non-archetype mess to fit 7 old classes in 5 new classes. The last class would have to use a mix between the Assassins (not the martial arts), the Druids and the Amazons skills successfully, and it must keep the same theme and style of gameplay.
I just find it unlikely. It would be more logical if they save some for the expansion.
Actually, that isn't impossible, or even difficult. A Ranger could have a bow tree (Amazon), traps tree (Assassin), and summoning tree (Druid). There might also be a melee passive tree (Similar to the Amazon). The Bow tree would be a standalone tree, but either the traps and summoning, traps and passive, or summoning and passive trees would likely be combined. Or the melee passive skills could just be evenly distributed throughout the other trees. And there, you have every skill tree from DIablo 2 and LoD covered, except for shapeshifting, which would be incompatible with a ranger anyway.
The summoning tree would be nature oriented, and cover summoning beasts to the ranger's aid. The traps tree would cover physical traps that the ranger uses to damage and incapacitate opponents. The bow tree would be more or less the same as the Amazon's bow tree, and would cover bows, crossbows (?), and possibly throwing weapons. The melee passive tree would allow melee ranger builds, similar to a sword and shield Amazon build that is possible in Diablo 2.
What if the summoning tree had a summon similar to the Druid's Vines but where you can summon up to 5 or 6 or whatever and instead of poisoning or leaching life, the reach out from underground and grab hold of the enemies.
That gives the Ranger the range he/she needs. And keeps the forest-esque feel.
Yes, so you could theoretically build a melee ranger class in Diablo 3 (assuming that the fifth class is a ranger, of course). With skill customization, you could make a melee ranger that does a lot of damage, like the Amazon in Diablo 2. However, because stats are auto assigned, that melee ranger wouldn't be all that more durable than a ranged build. Melee Amazon builds could have a lot of survivability in melee, but without customized stats, a ranger wouldn't be very durable.
It could still be fun though, like a melee sorceress build...
Which in a way its gonna be pointless since really who the hell makes every build.

Same here, i usually get bored after the 4th or 5th playthrough. I did finish D1 and D2 with all the classes though, just for the hell of it.

Which brings to mind the artificer class from D&D. Very cool stuff.

He's right, though. A ranger styled that way isn't impossible/illogical at all.
It's been done before, and has worked quite well.
If you don't believe me, check out the ranger on Guild Wars.
