For the 'failing luminaries' I thought I have addressed it already. The term 'luminaries' means light in a sense. I percieve this in a way that 'failing luminaries' means the High Heavens are no longer protecting the Sanctuary, but instead like its counterpart, waging war on the Sanctuary. Instead of looking up to the High Heavens, mankind its by itself, only with the guidance of Tyrael may it survive and maybe end the war, or atleast take it elsewhere
Did you say that you fixed the OP post up? Because you still say that Baal heads south when he actually heads north lol

Baal reaches Mount Arreat and seeks the Worldstone chamber, with his demonic army going southwards and battling the barbarian tribe of Harrogath.
When the hero(s) reach the Worldstone Chamber and defeat Baal, they were too late. The Worldstone was corrupted and Tyrael was forced to destroy it: thus assuring Evil's return into the future (Diablo 3)
Come to think of it... where did his army emerge from? There are several portals to Hell on Mt Arreat, but that's on the mountain itself. The army originated somewhere further south.
Yeah, I guess its possible. If he headed north first and went around the Twin Seas (would he really be able to get a whole army over the water?) and then headed west then north up to Arreat, then he probably could have made it. There doesn't seem to be any major civilizations on the way for anyone major to notice him.
Or he didn't have an army at all, while he was journeying to Mount Arreat. As Atrumentis said, an entity could easily make it up there unoticed. There are many portals to Hell on Mount Arreat, so when Baal probally reached there, he rallied all he could and sent his army southwards onto Harrogath while he searched for the Worldstone Chamber

I think they're talking about the cinematic scene also. He already has a army when he arrives.
I am not hearing enough fear in any of you.
My interpretation of "To defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells – And even the failing luminaries of the High Heavens itself." means that one of you is going to have to fight Tyrael when he tries to turn Sanctuary into a battleground or when he decides that rather than lose the whole planet to hell, he would try to destroy it instead.
All this is ironic because as much as Sanctuary could doom all creation, it still is the only hope for the angels to survive the demonic onslaughts of Hell, but they're just too arrogant and prideful to admit it.
It all have to do with the fact that humans can be both good and evil...
Humans can be more righteous than any angels as much as they can be more wicked than any devil for the simple reason that they are stronger than both put together.
Prophecies are just dust in history... the real future is coming.

Please read the whole thread before putting up nonsense quotes such as this
If you've read and paid attention, I have stated that Tyrael is in fact HELPING mankind against both the HIGH HEAVENS and the BURNING HELLS
"The comet carries a dark omen in its fiery being and it calls the heroes of Sanctuary To defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells – And even the failing luminaries of the High Heavens itself."
The same effect can (to a lesser extent) be seen in Mephisto's prophecy, especially when he talks about "the heavens raining fire".
I think it's apparent from the prophecy situation that either Blizzard is re-interpreting past material to maintain the series's continuity, Mephisto's speech was introduced as a sort of vague "sequel ammo", or the major part of the storyline was mapped out from the beginning.
Their are many different versions to the 'prophecy'. The original one can be heard in Diablo 2's untouched trailer, where an unidentified man starts reciting the prophecy. Many races including demons such as Mephisto have different versions of said prophecy. The Prophecies of the Final Day is the barbarian tribes' version of the prophecy

This top half is the prophecy from the manual, I have it right in front of me.
Quote from D2 Manual »
"And a child will cradle Terror in his breast as the heart of man falls under the shadow.
A Wanderer will pass through the ancient lands trailing chaos in his wake.
The Three Brothers will be reunited as the mortal world trembles before their might.
And so it was foretold that the Three, once reunited, would be shattered again --
And the last of them would set his sights on the holy mount. The warnings held that Their defeat would be illusory - that the final gambit had yet to be played . . ."

And now at last the storm surges forth from the southlands, and the hand of Destruction Reaches out to undo the workings of the Ancients. The tides of Hell surge - ready to smash Down upon the shores of the mortal world - to drown the guilty and the innocent alike."

At least that's what I've found for sure.
The way you had it stuck together kind of confused me.
This prophecy is all about Diablo 1, diablo 2 and d2 Lod. Not d3
Diablo1
"And a child will cradle Terror in his breast as the heart of man falls under the shadow.
Diablo2
A Wanderer will pass through the ancient lands trailing chaos in his wake.
The Three Brothers will be reunited as the mortal world trembles before their might.
And so it was foretold that the Three, once reunited, would be shattered again --
And the last of them would set his sights on the holy mount. The warnings held that Their defeat would be illusory - that the final gambit had yet to be played . . ."

Diablo: Lod
And now at last the storm surges forth from the southlands, and the hand of Destruction
Reaches out to undo the workings of the Ancients. The tides of Hell surge - ready to smash
Down upon the shores of the mortal world - to drown the guilty and the innocent alike."
- Excerpt from the Prophecies of the Final Day
The last couple of lines simply mean:
"And so it was foretold that the Three, once reunited, would be shattered again -- "
Diablo and mephisto are defeated
"And the last of them would set his sights on the holy mount. The warnings held that Their defeat would be illusory - that the final gambit had yet to be played . . ."
Baal set his sights on mount arreat. The defeat of Diablo/Mephisto was illusory as Baal is still free. Also, the destructions of the soul stone means Diablo/Mephisto are no longer bound to the mortal realm. The final gambit is Baal's march to Mount arreat in order to break the barriers btw hell and the world, thus letting his borthers return.
"And now at last the storm surges forth from the southlands, and the hand of Destruction"
Baal (Lord of Destruction) marching from Kurast to Arreat
"Reaches out to undo the workings of the Ancients. "
That is, to go pass the guardians of arreat( The ancients) and corrupt the Worldstone.
"The tides of Hell surge - ready to smash Down upon the shores of the mortal world - to drown the guilty and the innocent alike."
Now this part is interesting, as it hints to the end of the civil war on hell, since "The tides of hell surge-" meaning that hell is united, ready to attack the mortal realm once baal corrupts the wolrdstone (which is "the shores of the mortal world"). So maybe the prime evils had a "master plan", to get their soul stones destroyed and then Baal would corrupt the worldstone.
However, this whole prophecy is about what happened from d1 to d2 Lod and not about what will happen in d3. Else, why would they wait 20 years to unleash their hordes upon the world?
why would they wait 20 years to unleash their hordes upon the world?
Makes sense, as the mortal realm wouldn't see it coming considering that they've nearly forgotten the events of D2/LoD. They could also be amassing their armies in hell.
You also forgot the last bit, that is in my sig. In the teaser trailer, there is a scene where a comet, a single comet, is seen falling from the sky.
I'll give you that most of that prophecy tells of the events in D1/D2/LoD, but the last part about the comet... it doesn't tie in with D2 or LoD, but it fits awfully well with the teaser trailer and what we've seen so far.
What's really debatable is whether or not the entire events of D1/D2/LoD were part of an even greater plan by the three prime evils.

But yeah, boats are plausible.
So...
I guess they were just random demons he encountered along the way?
