Should'nt they allow us to copy our accounts to the console version? Pretty sure there was no information about this yet.
I understand that they are not doing this mainly for security reasons. Afterall, giving people who continuosly try to "modify" your game the access to an offline based version of the software does not seem that much of a smart move.
I do think however, that a certain hard coded restriction could solve all of that.
They should just make it so if you copy your characters from your pc account into the console version account, it will be a one-way kind of thing. Meaning that everything you do from now on, on your console version, will not carry back to your original account on the pc. Basically how the PTR usually works.
The console version looks quite superior to the PC one in my opinion and i really enjoy the convience of living room consoles especially when it comes to playing with guests and friends. But when i am forced to start all over when i have an account with all classes level 60 with a decent gear that gives me alot of freedom in what build i want to play with, etc, it just feels wrong to leave it all behind.
Let me know what you think. Should they give us the option of this one-way copy account thing? Please discuss whether or not you think this is a good idea and try to leave out comments about which platform is better or whatnot, this is not the point of this thread.
P.S: If they said they are adding this feature in, then feel free to ignore this thread or delete it if you are a moderator.
Connecting to Battle.net for the purpose of copying your account should not be that much of a problem even if it's an offline version of the game. The way the game handles accounts and character data internally should be the same except for the b.net validation layers which are there for security reasons.
What i had in mind is that you'd be able to copy your b.net account into the console version for and only for offline play. You wont be able to log into the console version of b.bnet if such a thing exists.
They could make it so the copy process requires validation through your original b.net account as a one time only security meassure and prevent any "sharing" of accounts even though i don't think this is such a big deal.

I think it is kind of a problem if literally the only reason you connect to b.net is to copy your characters. No not impossible, just don't see it being supported for that use only, which is the only use there would be.
The article didn't say "you won't be able to access your PC characters", it said "you won't be able to access b.net." The game will use PSN for all social features (not your bnet real ID etc.), there will be no remote character storage, players themselves will be hosting games, etc. There's legal wrangling with sony and eventually MS as much as its a technical issue. (Not insurmountable if you can make a deal, but still a pain in the arse.)

So it's pretty safe to assume you won't be able to access your pc characters if you have no access to b.net since that is where all of your characters are located.
It is possible programatically. A bit risky, yet seems like the right thing to do. If they won't give us this feature i'll just skip it and stick to my pc version. That's my personal opinion but i think there have to be some people who think that way.
The question is, will Blizzard invest such an effort in order to please a certain demographic? Usually these things don't happen in big industries, but i still hold some kind of hope just because i can.
Should'nt they allow us to copy our accounts to the console version?
No. That would mean that PC players would have no incentive to buy the console version. This is Activision we're talking about here, let the cash cow milking continue!

I need to step in here, not knowing if you're just joking or not, to try and squelch this. Activision is a SISTER COMPANY of Blizzard. This means that their PARENT company, Vivendi (if I'm spelling that right) owns both Activision and Blizzard. This does NOT mean they in any way interact when developing their own games. Activision does not have ANY say in Blizzard games, and vise versa. Please, stop trying to spread this falsity because it causes a lot of confusion to people who don't know all the details.
Edit; To OP, no I don't think this system would work. On the console version there is no RMAH or AH, so trading and drops is the only way to acquire gear (besides 3rd party sites). This would mean people would play their PC characters to use all the AH's, and then copy them to the console. this would cross pollinate economies, and create the same problem on consoles as there is on PC at the moment.
It's already been said here but, yeah. To make it work both companies will have to waste a great amount of time attaching PSN to Battle.net and converting Blizzard code to PSN code. I don't even think it's impossible on the Blizzard side, but I'm sure Sony has greater things in mind than working with Blizzard to satisfy 0.5% of all sales of titles on the PS3 and PS4.
Disclaimer: the 0.5% is not how many people will buy Diablo compared to PC version, it's how many people will buy games on PS3/4 compared to all people that will buy Diablo on their system. It would be like Microsoft working with a game company to make it worthwhile for some game to come with more features on the PC. This has never happened in the history of video games.
Yeah when i saw you could copy characters to a usb drive i kinda figured it would be totally dumb on Blizzard's part to allow people to do what i said in the OP. It will give people offline access to character files and probably fuck up b.net which will require a ton of patches. Besides, PSN gets hacked like every other month... I'm sure some people would hack it just to get their hands on something Diablo related if it would be worth it, and i think it will be, since D3 has this money making potential with items and gold being sold for real money and shit.
Still, i think Blizzard should just make a new service that will be a part of B.net which will allow players to connect through a console and download their characters and all this data should be heavily encrypted and flagged. Once its on your machine, its the only place it can be, etc...
Oh well, i got myself a PS3 already so i'll be waiting for the offline - same screen - coop
If the console version had a decryption key it would be modulated out of the game in no time. All the encryption in the world won't save Blizz from that then.
And I'm sure we both realize that the game not being on torrents because of poor emulation one year after it was released is a very well working defense. And also the main reason why a version of it that offers offline doesn't connect to Battle.net at all, ever.
If I end up buying the console version to play with friends on a friday night, I wouldn't want to pickup a lvl 60 char and stomp through content. And if I wanna play on my own, I'd probably use the pc anyways.
Plus, would we have the reverse? Bringing up console characters to PC? If it was better "farming" on console, wouldn't people stop playing on the PC altogether?

Thank you.
Since PS D3 "won't support battle.net", I think this feature would be pretty hard to implement.
