After seeing all the classes, I knew the monk was the best fit for me. Ripping apart monsters with your bear hands, how much cooler can you get? The barbarian was a close second.
My major problem is the visual appearance of gear. A monk, according to the class page, mostly wears rags and tattered vestments. The monk rarely uses his weapon. If you watch the blizzcon video above, you will see that blizzard is happy to flaunt the OVER THE TOP incredible barbarian and witch doctor sets. They look awesome, and go with the flavor of the class, but how can blizzard do this for the monk?
Keep in mind, that while the wizard and demon hunter don't get much spotlight in the video, I'm sure anyone can imagine the badass sets they can come up with (inspiration from rogue gear in wow, mage gear... etc)
What can blizzard draw from since there are no "monk" characters in any of their other games? Will the monk gear look as awesome as the other classes?
I can say one thing for sure. If after beta, the choice comes down to playing a barbarian, looking effing amazing with a variety of gear, and swinging around a sword twice the size of my body; or, playing a monk in different colored rags, I'm going barbarian.
Which begs the question... why haven't we seen any of the higher tier monk stuff. We see blizzard extremely proud of showing off the insane sets for the other classes. I feel as though if they had any awesome monk stuff we'd have seen it by now. It's why I'm worried.
It's alright, but I could see a town guard wearing that. Will monks just not have helmets? It seems like a lot of class flavor is done there, because it is the most prominent piece on gamecam.
I hope they get some helmets. I haven't actually seen any images of them wearing helmets though. :/ I really like the concept art but it would be more epic with a Noldor inspired helmet
from the looks of the spells recently shown with the runes im worried i wont be able to see my armor most of the time with all that magic fluff. They mentioned something about not filling the screen with spells earlier on (following the reasoning behind limiting players to 4) but it almost looks to me like they may have gotten carried away. <_<
hope they keep the animations from rising too high on the skill spamerama that is the monk

Where do you get that from? The class page says that the monk he encountered was in rags, but that doesn't mean all monks are. Their look is all about robes, not rags. Also, I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but on each character page they also have some kind of progression concept where you see what their armor looks like at higher levels. The Monk doesn't have anything quite like that, but it does have a concept of a high level female monk.
I think there are people who are attracted to crazy over the top armor and there are people who also enjoy the simple yet effective method. I believe the monk and people who are enthusiasts of this type of class will be very happy with the art style as I am. I don't need giant glowing shoulderpads on the monk. I think his robes and beads look amazing.
Well, i personally don't think any kind of heavy armor would suit the monk at all (especially helms). Although i guess they could make his/her robes a little bulkier with a hint of metal here and there. And the basic idea of the monk is that his/her body itself is the ultimate weapon, so we shouldn't really tweak it much.
I personally would prefer the monk to be as simple as possible or else the whole idea would be ruined.

It's just that he needs to look impressive at high levels or people will be all like oh man I spent so much time levelling my monk and he looks like a noob. This can be achieved with awesome robes, light armour, crowns, circlets, even light helms. He doesn't only use his body, he uses weapons like the Assassin's.
Yes i agree. That is inevitable. But all i meant was that i wouldn't like to see the monk all covered in metal. And a variety of robes and some refined light armor would definitely add to the grandeur. But heavy armory or weaponry would definitely spoil it.
I would also prefer the weapons to be simplistic like light blades, staffs etc. And if the spears class was there i would definitely oppose the presence of those earlier huge pikes and also those bardiches (poleaxes, spears whatever).
Isn't this just as grand as a barbarian covered in tons of metal wielding an axe twice his size?

Yeah that looks awesome! Is that Blizzard concept art? I wonder if there will be a helmet display/hide option. I always liked how in Diablo the Warrior would sheath his sword and carry his helmet in town.
@Critter: Yeah i would like to see that effect as well.

But I do have a problem... it stemmed from the armor set panel at blizzcon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s61E86c1YnQ)

In fact, I think his whole style of robes and light armor is very nice.
Ya he just needs a giant glowing cod piece
I could live with that. LOL
