With barbarians being able to use shields do you think we will see full plate armor sets? I have seen the concept art on the barb and its crazy awesome but it doesn't have that feel.
Do you guys think they might move in the direction of full plate or stay away from it and what are your opinions?
I personally would love to see it but maybe blizzard wont go in that direction or maybe an expansion might introduce a new character.
I don't think they are going to go with the full plate armor look. I could see it showing up as a specific look to a Set, if sets are even in the game, but I do not see it being common. Personally I have no problem with it, but I just think Blizzard is going to stray away from that full on tank feel and give armor a more kick ass feel as in armor that seems more worth for attacking than tanking.
Armor set pieces should be weaker then their Unique counterpart individually. However when you get the bonus from having multiple pieces of that set, they should equal the unique items.
This will allow for diversity in item choices. Uniques and Rares should be very powerful by themselves but sets should have the ability to be as powerful except in a different kind of way by having to wear the multiple pieces.
I also think there should be some Sets that scale with level. One thing I really hated in D2 was that you would find a shitty low level set piece when you are level 60+. I haven't payed D2 in so long, but that's how I remember it being.
In my opinion, i think they should go heavier, i just feel that the armor will give more than just the appearance of unstoppable like armored to the teeth, and wielding 2 gigantic axes slicing into diablo's skull while tearing out his heart! and....... sorry i get kind of carried away when i imagine barbs
I think it's pretty much fine how it is, although we've seen next to none of the items or equipment yet, and I think if they exaggerated it any more, it would be far too unrealistic for my tastes.
If you watch the game play video with the Barb from 08 (I know this video is old and things have changed) you see him wearing a Gothic set. Unlike the D2 Gothic chest piece which was pretty much a full plate on a Barb besides the spikes on the shoulders were missing. The D3 Gothic plate covers up way less than the D2 version did.

I really hope that's not the final armor. I loved Barb's final armor, and DIII should provide for a full-plate barb, at the very least because there's NO other character that will be able to wear full plate.

This is what I was thinking. Was that armor not considered plate? I was particularly fond of that armor he put on the barb.
I'd rather do away with uniques and just go full out randomisation on weapons and armour stats, maybe?
I totally understand where you are coming from, but at the same time, I think Uniques are a part of Diablo. Taking them away completely would be taking a part of the series' soul. Kind of how they decided to make unique item letter purple or something? It should be GOLD. I fully believe there is a way to have randomized items that can be better than uniques (like classic D2) AND have awesome uniques, just more balanced. I also recall them talking about possible Legendary items or Epic items? Srsly? Normal>Rare>Unique. That's it. That's plenty, especially if they plan on bringing back the rare items>unique items thing like in D2 classic.
Maybe they are saving it for a paladin-esque character in an expansion? I'm not a fan of releasing an incomplete game so they can expand on it later, but I can see why Blizzard would do it.
Still, if you think of a Barbarian, outside of the Diablo world, you don't really imagine him wearing a full plate armor, right?
Sooo, color me retarded... But what is everyone's definition of plate armor? Because everyone seems to think he wasn't wearing plate armor when it looks like he was to me?
I have a question - will the good old sets be in D3?
Jay Wilson has hinted that there will be set items in Diablo 3, but it has not be confirmed. So, who knows. If there ARE set items, I'm willing to bet we'll at least see a couple familiar set pieces.
Well..this concept art collection shows how they imagine armored barbarian. I know what you mean OP .. but I doubt we will have classic plated character like in Diablo 2 (Paladin, Barbarian or even Amazon).. I can't imagine any from existing classes to be fully covered in plate armor .. The only class which make sense is Barbarian but it seems they are designing Barb to more nordish viking/marauder looking char.
Yeah I agree blizzard seems to be aiming for the Nordish armor style. I doubt they have removed paladin though because those guys were tough and I hope to see them in future expansions.

I'm worrying there won't actually be plate armor for barb, meaning there won't be plate armor in the game at all.
