What's so strange about the way that Blizzard employees have reacted to Brevik's comments? Thinly-veiled insults tend to have that kind of effect on people that they're directed to. It was a bit foolish and unprofessional of them to express how they felt on Facebook, but it's perfectly human and they had every right to speak their minds, as all men should have at all times.

"Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the small death that brings total obliteration."
Been reading diablofans since mmo-champion created it, but after reading the blizzard company history with regards to brevik I finally felt compelled to post lol.
Im all for brevik, blizz actions remind me of mitt romney,.
edit- blizz aquired hellgate before it launched. they probably set it up for failure and took anything valuable to implement in d3 / wow/ future business endeavors.
blizz south is about $ 1st games 2nd. d3 is a decent game still, and i still play it a ton, but if d2 had updated graphics and rmah id prefer that in a heartbeat
same way blizz try and take ownership of dota, they probably own so many of breviks idea anything he creates he coulld be sued. shitty corporate world.
edit2- and im all for cursing and whatnot personally, but you dont see tom brady cursing out eli manning on tv. when you invite your business into your personal life you have an image your paid to represent
There, JW himself saying that was his comment. What more proof does Diablofans need?
(Use Google Chrome, or translate the last question)
As to why JW and other Devs making these comments is important: if his philosophy is so out of line with the original ceeator's that he's brought to insulting and being dismissive of him, that means he doesn't want D3 to be anything like D2. Many people (like myself) bought D3 thinking it was going to be like D2. The feature that made it too good to pass up for me was the addition of 5 more skill slots. That, in my mind added a lot of depth. Other than that, I'm guilty of not doing much research. I gave the developers the benefit of the doubt. But alas, I felt slighted.
I agree that the reaction by the community to his comments is a little over the top, however, I just feel like what the D3 Devs put on the forums and what their REAL thoughts (like the ones on FB) are totally different. How can I trust what the developers say (like their philosophy with the game's direction) on the D3 forums is the truth, and not just some neutered version of their real thoughts? I thought they were professionals that indeed cared what other people said and integrated their criticism into their own thought process, but In reality, they are just as sarcastic, snarky and vulgar as the community that lambasts them.
I don't know, maybe I'm just ranting, but that's what I think. Hopefully people try to at least understand where I'm coming from, and don't think that I'm simply flaming JW and the developers, because I'm not. I think JW and other developers have done a great job with WoW, and JW and these developers have done many things correctly with D3, like creating a better combat system, better follower system, better incentive to explore areas to kill elites instead of skipping them entirely and farming boss all day, among other things.
In the end, D3 may become a much better game, and I hope it does, but as of right now, I do not believe it is up to par because it has strayed far from Diablo's original creators vision of the game. Thank you for your time.

ignorant close minded people dont need to be convinced of their ignorance imo, because that is your own decision so i will withhold from trying to enlighten you
lol. first of all if i was making something up what would i be ignoring, do you even know what ignorance means? i just re-checked, and i read they acquired it before closing it not release so despite the difference the outcome does not change; blizzards actions appear to be out of spite. and really i could care less what you do or who you know, but since you seem to care about that stuff; i am a biochemist. you print figures, ill let the rest of you decide which requires more intelligence.
Blizzard didn't acquire Hellgate: London. HanbitSoft, a Korean software distributor that is known internationally for distributing StarCraft but also distributes numerous other MMOs in Korea.
They're hired by Blizzard to distribute their games around Korea. They're not owned by Blizzard.
This is the line of thought that I simply do not understand one bit.
Are you (and others who say similar things) truly that naive as to believe that EVERYONE doesn't have a "professional" hat and a "personal" hat and depending on where they are their personalities are different? Go hang out with your co-workers outside of work. You quickly find out that they're all very different people and that they let their hair down outside of the office. It's why they call it "acting professional" - it's an act. It's putting who you are temporarily on hold for a more polite, courteous, and respectable version of yourself that is more business-like.
You can't mean to tell me that you, or anyone else, believed that Jay Wilson, or even David Brevik, never went home and laughed at one of our stupid ideas, or said a few nasty things about people saying he should be fired. This isn't a Jay Wilson thing, this is a "hello, welcome to the real world" thing.
It's shocking the standards people hold others to which they don't even hold themselves to. What Jay Wilson said was unfortunate due to it not being a private conversation, but highly human. Trying to spin this as a "we can never trust the devs because now we have proof they are two-faced" is so ridiculously ignorant of human nature. I can guarantee Daemaro has seen one of my reports on these forums and said "fuck, another report from Shaggy!" Does that mean we can't trust the moderators here? Of course not. This *is* human nature.
You know the person at the customer service desk at, say, Wal-Mart? The person you returned the broken item to? She might have said something after you left because you were a bit too pushy with her. Probably shouldn't shop at Wal-Mart anymore because you can't trust them.
Customer service is all about smiling and nodding when you're talking to the customer, regardless of if you think the customer is a raging sack of shit or not. It's about surpressing your personal beliefs in favor of the company policy. So, yes, when you're dealing with customers you are pretending to be something you're not. That's how it's always been. That's how it always will be. Why this comes as a surprise is completely beyond me.
If you applied the same reasoning you're using to other companies you'd never be able to shop anywhere because they're ALL doing the exact same thing. Yet, somehow, it's only a big deal when one company does it. Double standard much?
Just as wiki said, hanbitsoft was one of the distributors (know what distributors do right?) of blizzard, more precisely, at the time in the korea zone, since blizzard didn't have its dedicated korea or asian department then. In NA and europe, blizzard games were distributed by blizzard itself, and later activision of course.
bit of extra info for you big mouth idiots
once flagship was a sinking boat, they broke through perfect world china to land a Korean investor (unnamed) to purchase all flagship's arts assets and employees, then all located in Seattle.
The deal went quicker than anyone could expect, because bill roper and co. were already secretly establishing runic at the time.
once the deal went through, before flagship closure was finalized, all flagship artists quit the company and joined runic, taking all material of the game they were working on with them, that later beame torchlight.
Perfect world china, through the broker deal acquired majority stake of runic, which at the time worth 8.4m dollars.
so next time you talking to people that know their shit, show a little respect you fucking imbecile
and next time you stand up for some shady person, learn who he was first.
lol. first of all if i was making something up what would i be ignoring, do you even know what ignorance means? i just re-checked, and i read they acquired it before closing it not release so despite the difference the outcome does not change; blizzards actions appear to be out of spite. and really i could care less what you do or who you know, but since you seem to care about that stuff; i am a biochemist. you print figures, ill let the rest of you decide which requires more intelligence.
By saying "Blizzard accquired Hell Gate:London" do you mean this (copy & pasted from Wiki)?
------
Intellectual property acquisition
On November 3, 2008, Blizzard software distributor Hanbitsoft Inc.[37] announced via its global public relations blog, that it has acquired the Hellgate: London and Mythos properties from Flagship Studios. No mention of February 2009 server support was detailed. The post also mentions development of an upcoming expansion[38] using leftover Flagship development efforts. Hanbitsoft has announced on company sites that although it is not interested in providing this content to customers outside Asia, its intent is not to lose users but the number of users is continually declining.[citation needed] Updates from these company sites state the expansion pack includes new maps featuring Seoul, South Korea and a product title: The Second Invasion.[39] ------
Blizzard got the Game Titel "Diablo", but not the actual People behind it who originally created it.
So can a complete different bunch of people create a followup that works?
As seen on Diablo3... no they cant.
Take the old Terminator 1 Movie, and replace Arnold with Justin Bieber... will the Movie be the same?
Jay Wilson had a lot of crap thrown his way over the last 12 Weeks, i believe his reaction was impulsive because he knows deep down that Brevik is right with what he is saying.
brevik is right saying magic better than rares in d3?
brevik was fucking wrong that he fucked everybody playing Lod 2 and half years to get a simple fix on the eth rune
brevik was wrong when he took a year to broadcast hellgate london as the successor of d2 and it was broken ass shit
brevik was also wrong when he chose marvel over runic because that pos he's making at marvel is not going to sell
one thing we know for a fact is:
You, him, and me, all of us are posting on a D3 forum and all of us are playing d3, not fucking torchlight, not fucking torchlight2 beta. D3!
David Brevik hand down. If you have played Diablo 2, you will see how complex the D2 system is, yet everything is balance. We started with 5 different classes and all play with a different style. Every class has it's strength and weakness. Like the barbarian: he is a melee class and have massive life, very little mana. Just adding intel to get mana just doesn't make sense for barbarian. The reverse is true for Wizard (D2x change this because of cooldown and unique give too much mana). Necro is simple to wizard, but instead of casting, it summon and use corpse explosion. It is fun to play every class.
On the other hand D3 system is too simple. Basically you stacks 3 things: DPS (weapon + main st), Life, Resist. All stats give the same thing. If you don't use str/dex/intel and just call it main stats, and disregard the race, all of them look the same. Get 1500 main, 50k life, about 800 to 1k resist. That's it.
I highly doubt the D3 team actually play the game at all. If they have play it through, they would realize:
1) inferno is frustrated. It is not hard. It just frustrate when players are swamp with cooldown and monsters cast at will.
2) No one will play melee because they have a huge disadvantage (D2 strength is on coop)
you will see how complex the D2 system is, yet everything is balance.... blablabla
use a hammer din against a bowzon
use a javazon against a bowzon
use a singing barb or ww barb against a bowzon with slow lol
use a necro stacking poison resist against a noob poison zon
use a sorc against bow zon that's wearing resist
use that same sorc and try to murder a bow zon in dr gear but let him hit your ass first with a cruel matriach of q
and walk druids out of town
goldfish memory ftw
oh, btw, try to get a zon into your assassin traps
all bowzons walk around shielded up for max dr don't forget. only switch when you pew pew
I loved D1, really liked D2, but D3 is still my favorite and I'm confident that the game will only improve over time (like today and 1.1 in the future). I understand David's POV and I understand Jay Wilson's backlash- you defend the people you care about and the things you are passionate about. People forget about being professional sometimes, but who cares. If you are greatly offended by what David or Jay said, you just might not be old enough for D3's M17 rating.
Fun fact: Leo Wakelin's CM name was Ancilorn on the europeen WoW site.
runic + perfect world china = scam
flagship = runic
brevik = flagship
and hellgate fucking sucked major ass. worst game ever, talking about unfinished games....
the whole flagship-torchlight-runic scam can be easily found on wiki, google, w/e. just search for flagship closure. nasty nasty deal
