I was wondering if you think it's better to level a hero up to 60 and go up through Inferno or to do all classes on Normal first, then each the next difficulty, and so on. I intend to play all classes and not just focus on one or two, but am unsure of which strategy I should choose in how far I progress them or try the other classes out.
Currently, my thought is to play all heroes on each difficulty before moving to the next difficulty, as I thought it's easier to manage low-level item sharing that way. The downside I see is that I switch to other classes before mastering how to play a particular class, so might lose some of the knowledge I had with that class after levelling four other classes.
I've been doing option 3, with the exception of the Barb, which is slightly ahead of the others (it was my first and "main".) I've found that having one character slightly ahead makes your life easier, since you can find great items for the other classes, instead of using the AH or crafting. My Barb is in Act 2 Hell, my Wiz, Monk and DH have just finished Nightmare. I'm currently beating Nightmare with my WD.
You know how people complain that lower level items drop in high difficulties? That actually makes your life easier if you have one character ahead of the others.
i have NEVER been able to stick with 1 character to high level on any rpg, i HAVE to start a new char and see what they are capable of before my first char gets to a real high level.
if you can stick with 1 character till the end more power to you, and then you can use him to item find(""farm"")
but keep in mind of maybe a certain character really isnt your style, then you should start other chars, and see what works for you.
I did a mix of 1 and 3, I beat normal on my wiz, then used the items she got to level a barb, who made it through NM, then i switched to a DH who blew through NM/Hell, leveled a Monk up to hell before I did some Inferno Act 1 runs on my DH.
I ground out hell on my Monk, got my wiz up to inferno and through act 1, and my barb is at the start of Hell. Havn't tried a WD yet.
TBH always having a character leveling ahead of the others is a HUGE help, just like BastionFan said. I normally had a stash page full of upgrades for my other characters before i switched over to them. I Rarely needed the AH before Hell, and even then only a weapon here or there.
Nothing more boring in this game than Hell through Inferno. Nightmare is fun for the simple challenge, anything else is a repeat with annoyances and gear checks.
I got my Wizard to level 55, stopped cold, never could bother again, incredibly boring. Then played Normal with each class. I'm still not done, haven't touched D3 in a while actually, but its more fun than just playing at high levels.
I suggest trying out everyone in act 1 normal, then focus on getting one to 60 so you can farm gear/gold, then if you want to play another class, its easier to level/gear them up.
If you focus on leveling all 5 classes at the same time, unless you get lucky with your drops, you're likely to hit a wall in the later difficulties when it comes to having good enough gear, due to the fact that AH'ing (or crafting, if that's what you prefer) can get expensive. It's not impossible, but it's definitely going to be less effective. Plus, if you're going act by act, then you're doing each act 5 times before moving on the the next, which would probably get extremely boring (especially with act 2).
But it's really up to you, if you'll have more fun doing it one way, do it that way, because, after all, that's what games are about, having fun!

Except for the monk. Fuck the monk.
