for starters getting to 60 isnt a challenge you just play the game how is that a challenge. You just play beating inferno is the challenge not lvl 60 people obviously dont understand that. Its like saying getting to lvl 90 in d2 was a challenge
Unless you live in asia, I highly doubt you could even legitly have a shot at world first. Worlds quickest is completey different set of circumstances though.
I just don't care though. I know I won't even be close because I am not even going to attempt it. People will be clicking furiously away while I am sleeping like a baby.
I agree, but I'd probably watch the entire stream for a world first hardcore run - since it could take up to a month+ for someone to reach it without that accidental death on the last boss in inferno.
I agree if normal people trying to do this but in general no..
Do you have any idea how much money is involved for people like Athene and co?
They have sponsors, communities etc and Athene is getting more than 50k $ per month for the crap he is doing on the internet.
Same goes for a lot of WoW players who have Razer and other companies behind them.
THOSE people do this for money and of course the competition.
Its hilarious how people like the TC can't understand this only because they can't accept that people have the "luck"(they worked for it) to build up the hype around them.
Same goes for people who can't accept that good streamers on twitch.tv or so get thousands of dollars for streaming their gameplay.
But back to topic - I agree with OP completely. The race isn't fun for me, thinking I need to be first and skipping awesome vids doesn't qualify as fun for me.
To me, I'll be the first to reach 60 with my friends while exploring the ENTIRE GAME, by doing ALL dialogues, ALL quests, and leveling my artisans.
To those saying no one remembers world first, I say to you... Paragon, Dream, Athene, Ensidia, The entire ladder system in Diablo 2, SK gaming, Blood Legion, Vanquish, Curse, Nihilum, Death & Taxes, Risen, Deus Vox, Vodka, Fury, Drama, Ascent, Stars, Kin Raiders, Mione, Jider. You may not recognize all of these, You may not recognize any of these - but there are millions of people who can recognize AT LEAST one of these names.
Face it, people care about world firsts. Even YOU, haters, care about world firsts. You guys often talk FAR more of world firsts, than anyone else does. Even the players who achieve these amazing feats, rarely mention them. However, once one happens, you can't go a single day without missing a thread on why world firsts don't matter. To me, It seems they matter more to you, than anyone else.
I'll be skipping every cutscene, I'll be charging into Inferno as quickly as possible, Me and my undead legion shall bring the world to our knees, and I aim to be one of the first to do so. Will I achiev it? Probably not. It's still something fun. I'll be in a race, with literally millions of players. All to test their determination, their quick wits, their luck, and of course their free time, :P. This is one of the rare times I'll have 2 weeks straight of nothing to stop me(Recovering from surgery, can't even leave my house - dr's orders).
If I lose, Oh well - it will still have been fun to try. If I win, That'll really make my week. I don't care about fame, I'm anonymous as is - That name isn't mine.
the fact thet no one cares to be first lvl 60 is not entirely true!
Becouse if u hit 60 first u can do first inferno run, thus find the first best tier items over the world!
So u be the first offering them on RMAH, wich can earn u alot of money!
If you think you are going to be able to take on a champion pack, which is where most of the good loots comes from, directly after hitting 60 w/o going back to hell to farm u are sadly mistaken.

Great post. In my opinion everyone who whines about people rushing world firsts and "not caring about them" are pathetic, because it's OBVIOUS that they care.
These whiners are just casuals who play the game for the fun of it, trying to achieve nothing. They are the ones who say "I'm proud of myself" after finishing on the 18th place in a race of 20 participants. Pathetic mindset.
The world firsts attempters are those, who are not willing to take 2nd place. 1st is all that matters, and that's called being COMPETITIVE.
I don't really agree with this. Casuals are fine, Whiners are annoying - though. Just because someone wants to play the game casually, doesn't mean they are worse than you like you're insinuating.

I don't like your definition of comptetitive, you obviosly know nothing about sports, we have no chance to win the championship this year, so no point in showing up for this season. Also I don't see any ladder/pregame show/list of competitors. Can u link it so I know who to root for?

Like I said above, I do not agree with most of what that poster stated - in reply to my post. However, people like this do obviously care. They post threads about it, they complain about it. If they really did not care, they would come off as more neutral, rather than aggressive. The fact that they post at all shows that they DO care, but the fact that they're aggressive shows that they care a bit more than you'd think.
As for your comment on no ladder, http://www.diabloprogress.com/ here ya go. This is the pregame show, This is our arena! We're having it now! Regardless of how you see it - diablofans board, Mmo-champs board, and the official boards, THESE are our pregame shows. Who are the competitors? Everyone who throws their hat in the rings. You don't need to claim your stake, You don't need to Ante Up, You just charge in and hope the cards favor you - defeat doesn't have a price, victory has little to offer, it's for nothing more than yourself.
Everything is a competition, to those who are competitive enough. This is a race, We begin our charge in 3 days, 16 hours.

yea saw that in the post after me, have no idea how that is going to work since they run the wow progression off of armory achievement dates/times. I wasn't so much arguing that they dont care, I just hate when ppl say things like they obviously care, w/o explaining how. Your explanation is exactly what I see as the reason most of the time, they made the thread so they do care.
I guess I should also put my plan out their as I used to care about it during WoW but only on the server I played. However with Diablo the furthest I will get away from the game on my computer is the main menu, for at least the first few weeks. So I could care less, only reason I am here is the game isn't out and something has to fill the time seeing as how its my day off at 4 am.
Getting to 60 in Hell is not really a challenge.
Beating inferno / Beating inferno on HC is.
Have you ever considered that not everyone enjoys Diablo because it has an "epic storyline" ? Some people enjoy other things in the game. Most people enjoy other things in the game actually. Probably like 5% of the players are looking forward to the story part most.
Nice 5% playerbase assumption on who is looking forward to storyline, that's also a guess, a terribly incorrect guess.
But nice try.
On what do facts do you base your statement of my guess being "incorrect" ? Just because you like the story does not mean that more than 1/20 of the casuals who buy the game and have never played the Diablo series care about the story. They care about the gameplay.
I base it on the fact that there is more then 5% of people on this forum alone, let alone the world, who will play for the storyline. The lore and storyline forum isn't empty. I for one will play for both gameplay and fun but what makes diablo a even greater experience is how much the lore expands the excitement and depth of gameplay.

Have you ever considered that if you are an active participant on this Forum (and other Diablo 3 forums) you are very different from the mainstream gamer ? 99.9% of people who play Diablo 3 will never read or post any threads on forums. Not to mention the fact that everybody who posts on this forum is more likely to be a fan (diablofans ring any bells?) of the series already, so that of course makes them prime candidates for your percentage of people who will enjoy the game for its lore / story aspect.
The fact is that the MAJORITY of players that will eventually purchase Diablo 3, have not played Diablo and Diablo 2 prior to this considering that the MAJORITY of the players of Diablo 3 will probably be aged between 15 and 20 years (They have been less than 10 years old when Diablo 2 was released, and thus probably never have played the game). And THAT is a fact.
says that ppl care about the storyline...so pls just stop.
If ppl didnt care about the storyline, why have the spoiler tag. Also why do all spoiler front page posts have "huge spoilers" listed in like all caps and crazy colors.

Weren't you able to understand my point ? This forum holds the capacity of less than 0.01% of the Diablo 3 players. The rest will be mostly new players to the series, and therefore not care about the lore in particular. They just like to play Action RPG games.
Just because they are new to the Diablo games doesn't mean they don't know the lore. You do know that there is a Diablo book series, I haven't checked in a while but kids still know how to read right?
Or, they are new and actually went back and played d1 and d2 to prepare themselves for the new information released in d3. *Like you said they may just be fans of "Action RPG games" edited for one more point* I would also love to know how you get your information since u state it as fact.
Where as my examples are just that examples of what a new player could do to learn about the lore prior to the release of this game.
I just don't care though. I know I won't even be close because I am not even going to attempt it. People will be clicking furiously away while I am sleeping like a baby.
Completely agree.
Its like one day I know im going to die, so lets obtain every disease on the planet, drink excessively, smoke excessively to see how fast I can die.
Then I can boast about how.. oh wait im dead.
