Well I'm glad I'm in the minority tbh. I just believe normal is completely skippable and feels like filler. Why can't normal just be semi-difficult? It's like throwing away act progression for nothing in my eyes. Was never interested in a 4 act long tutorial. Never seen it in a game before.

so you hated norm in D2? because the difficulty is the same. how can they ease people into the game if its not really easy? not everyone is a D2 or a video game veteran where they can pick up a game n learn super fast.

I never said I don't REPLAY; I said I AM DONE WITH A CHARACTER ONCE DONE... and this holds true. Sure; Of course I would restart and try out a different skill build (espeically without respecs back then) but no, I didn't MF farm, never have and never will. I have around 2000 hours in Titan Quest and same there, Once I finish all 3 difficulties with a build I start a new character.
What I was saying in my first post (and seeing as everything has to be spelt out on here these days) is the following:
For me, I need more than end game farming to stick with a character once I have beaten the final boss in the final mode. So if there were different game modes available that all needed different gear set-ups; then yes, i'd grind gear. Otherwise I just restart and try a different build.
you can simply replay inferno over and over with different builds now that you can swap on the fly? and since the number of different builds is in the thousands itll take you many months if not years to test all the general combo's

I was perfectly fine with Diablo 2 normal mode. I'd be perfectly happy with Diablo 3's normal mode being that. My concern is Diablo 3 will being easier than that.
I have never met a person that couldn't ease themselves into Diablo 2. Everyone I know beat normal. Either that or they didn't bother finishing. I don't see how making an easier normal can make the game anymore interesting. Guess what happens when you and your friends make alts? You will find ways to just "skip" through normal using some sort of speed running strategy. Why have another act be a chore to speedrun through?
WoW players, young and old, noob and pro, nerd or jock, all managed to learn WoW and eventually made it to max level. Some took a year, some took around 1 week. When I compare a game like WoW to D3, I see Diablo 3 having more packs of monsters, but I also see every playable class as dps classes as well. As long as the game isn't easier than D2 or WoW, we'll be fine.
Like I said, I'm not interested in a full 4 or so acts of content doubling as a tutorial. So if I'm in the minority, I'm cool with that. Also, with 4 acts, Nightmare and Hell might both feel like a grind or like filler. having 1 act feel like that is enough

I would just add that people who don't want to farm or arena in D3 (without sounding like a dick if possible) need to look for a different game. This is what Diablo has always been about. Big D has gone through many, many changes, and is arguably not even similar to the first diablo, but in a good one. One of the things that have stayed the same; The loot. If you're looking for some other type of end game (which I can't even think of a type that isn't related to farming) then you're going to be SOL =D

I think this is a falsehood. I agree that Diablo is a loot pinyata game first and foremost however that doesn't disclude the possibility for futher "end game." After release there is the potential that we may see various game modes that do nothing but pit your characters against increasingly challanging mobs or some such. There is much to be gained from variety and little reason to not include it eventually

no one said it discludes any further content they could implement. but the diablo franchise is 90%+ about the item hunt and if you dont like that, Diablo isnt the franchise for you (in the long run)

of course there should be another mode if you want a srz biz hard mode that won't naturally lose it's difficulty as time passes and is in the realm of where none of the other 2 previous titles have done.
to do that you'll need to set content above level cap and if you simply made hell the 'above cap inferno difficulty' then what? make people level 1-40 in normal and 40-60 in nightmare? yeahhh that sounds like a great idea, having people go through half the level cap in the introductory difficulty.
edit: and really, if your going to do a poll on how many level of difficulties there should be, why not include 5, or 2? or maybe even one! no room for casual WoW noobz in my diablo!!11!
seriously, for me this just looks like another attempt to bash at the changes that the game promises to bring.
Its fine with me and makes sense, after going through all the content, not MP, you really dont have that much of a challenge. Blizz wants to keep you challenged.
I like having the ability to be the underdog at the end of the game. In D2, you were too high for hell for the majority of the endgame. But now that Inferno is going to be level 61s, you get to feel like underdogs until we get that sick Inferno gear. To answer your question now, yes I believe it is needed.

I don't always burn. But when I do, I use hellfire.

Snaks conclusion implies the lack of inclusion of any other end game besides the farming of Inferno. Yes as of release this will be the culmination of Diablo III, farming Inferno. Fantastic, a difficulty where all zones are relatively the same and allows for a consistant challange is a great idea. My point was that for somebody who on day X who doesn't feel like farming zone Y need not be "shit out of luck" as Snaks puts it, and I see no reason not to have a broader swath of possiblities post release.
i lawl at your niavety bud. for the D2 veterans here we know how hard nightmare will ACTUALLY be. and it will still be a breeze for ppl who arent stupid/scrubs.
i will post my first playthroughs of NM and hell and show how hard its not.
I'm starting to get sick of your cocky - know it all attitude. You act like you are some gaming-GOD sent from the cyber-heaven to enlighten the world.....
Your shit still stinks man... get over yourself please.
rofl you think saying that nightmare is easy is me being cocky? WOW. have you ever played D2 at all?
ROFL you think you know what you are talking about . Everyone is going to have buddies to rush them ... or have gear stocked up from start to be able to rush through nightmare and hell like in diablo 2.
At release everyone starts at a level playing field... everyone has to grind the gear to progress difficulties... you won't have twinks... you won't have friends to rush you so STFU.

Sorry to double post but anyway; it's not that I don't like farming, it's that I don't like farming aimlessly - there is a key difference. and Please, I have played more Arpg's than most people know exist xD. So don't use the *game's not for you* argument :P.
What in your opinion would constitute not farming aimlessly? Serious question =P

Oh yes... NM Duriel was so easy you could solo him with a lvl 19 playing one handed because you were jerking it simultaneously....
How about you put your epeen away and actually be rational for a second. I GUARANTEE you died in nightmare more than once (even though you keep boasting how only noobs die in normal or nightmare).... and if you didn't I guarantee you would have had you been old enough to actually play at release when people weren't over geared.....

Considering the amount of responses to it, yes. And in my opinion, it is a rather thought-provoking question.
uhm... considering 95% of people think its necessary then its not a very thought provoking question.
That's why I said "in my opinion", because I know there's people who will disagree with me.

I do dislike that "Normal" is essentially being "Tutorial" in that we are forced to play through it on "easy mode" for our first playthrough.
