So we can go as far as customizing the face and hair on our characters? Have you read this interview?
From InsideGamer.nl "The beta will keep you occupied for about six hours and lets you see the beginning of the game. But before you take one step into the demonic world, it’s time to create a character. In my case, I went for the Monk, a class that combines close combat with magic attacks. Of course it’s possible to adjust the character, in terms of facial expressions and the way your hair looks, but honestly I didn’t give a damn. Hence I entered the world with the default bald and grumpy Monk."
Being able to customize your face and facial hair would just add an element from WoW that no one cares about in diablo
They would add facial customization if it wasn't that you can't really see your character upclose at any point, whatsoever. And I would love to have customization, but there's little point in it.

You cant? I have seen videos of people zooming in and out. And for that matter, its not like you ever see your characters face in WoW, while playing.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!

You can totally zoom in in D3, but it's still not detailed enough to show specifics of the face, and also makes you useless while being zoomed. In WoW you can, sometimes, pretty much play while zoomed on your face. Some boss battles really do let you do that.
It's really quite sad to say but, even though it's much uglier, WoW still has a lot more detail on some models. Especially the new races' models and a lot of the latest Tier sets.
Perhaps it's just the Beta thing. Well, hopefully it's just the Beta thing.
I'd love to change the hair and stuff on my character. I am gonna play a monk and I hate the beard, I mean how many monks have you seen that have a beard anyway?

They are supposed to look Eastern European. And yes, a lot of us wore huge beards in the past. Darwin style. We still do.
It's only the "belief" part that is supposed to be Asian.
edit: Now that I think about it I don't seem to remember a single guy in our pre-1900 history that didn't wear at least a small beard or stach. It's because we're awesome.

You know who else had beards?....Spartans, win.
They also had a 6 pack painted on their belly.
Ohh wait, that was just a movie.

I rather go full bald monk with no beard, think of Avatar the last Airbender
