I would expect they anouncer it at a bunch of places at once. They hit us with the twitter, facebook, and real life event combo that send all fan sites and fans in a mass hysteria. Accomplishing more than what they had expected to accomplish.
this^. there is no way after 12 years of waiting and hype that they will just announce it in one place. no way in hell.

I have read from the EU forums that the release date is potentially May 16th. They suggest that the recently announced Portrait of an Artist contest is actually a ploy to provide us with some numbers, mainly the 5mb max and the 1600x1200 resolution. These limits seem somewhat unnecessary considering current technology allows for a much larger variety. But what is even more indicative is that Blizzard has not announced a start or end date or any prizes. But its only a hunch and I haven't read about it at all on any US forums yet.

But yes, I assume they will announce the game somewhere this or next week...
So we can assume we are at least 2 months away from release. Assuming Blizzard announces the game at Cebit (March 6th?) we can expect a release in the first two weeks of May (8 or 15). This speculation is of course based on Blizzards release pattern of the last 5 years as stated in the quoted source.
i think since all these contests are going on this week with all the hype that next will they will announce the release date when the hype ends over the beta contests. although end of this week would be awesome too

haha i love conspiracy theories blizzard cant post any numbers without ppl deciphering some code XD
After that WoW Cataclysm 12.7% every number I see becomes a constant stream in my head figuring its correlation with a release. But I did not come up with this one, but it definitely seems realistic. It is far more fun than it is accurate.

As much as I'd like to think this might be the same thing, 5/16/12 is a Wednesday, where as almost all of Blizzards releases for years have come out on Tuesday or Thursday.. This is the new trend to release games on most people's paydays. Who knows, though?
Lets just denounce the CeBIT thing right now. CeBIT is in EUROPE and very few press representatives will be there so it aint happening there, much more likely to happen at Blizzcon 2013.

Blizzard used to care about releasing Diablo III, then they all took an arrow in the knee...
Well..... with Mike Morheims recent announcement - its safe to say there will be no diablo 3 release date announcement until the end of march.... and therefore no Diablo 3 until June.

christ blizz need to start to sorting out what they say, either say and keep to it or just dont say it, mike is the worst for that, bash or jay will have to come along and clean up the mess now ( people will freak out now)
im not angry just peed off that he said the exact same think 3 weeks ago
also, sad news for the blizz employees
Dude they probably got FAT severence packages .... meaning they get nice long paid vacations ^_^. I know a feel people that are TRYING to get laid off lol.
Whats the difference between in the coming weeks and "soon"
We'll have exciting news to share in the coming weeks regarding Diablo III's release date, and will soon [march 13-15th] be holding a private media event to showcase the latest work on Mists of Pandaria.
Does one not assume coming weeks is sooner than "soon".?
Damm Blizzard and their termonology!
Nope. Coming Weeks = longer than soon. Blizzard wants to move their d3 devs over to MoP ... duh.....

Notice the terminology where he said "We'll have exciting news to share in the coming weeks regarding Diablo III's release date."
This is a very vauge terminology that allows them several weeks to announce it....
