I was diablo's #1 fan of all time back from D1 and eagerly waited for D3 to be released.
Until i saw the Legendary item database.
Goddamnit! blizzard, what was so amazing in diablo was the uniquness of each of your uniques \ sets.
Uniques had a very unique attribue that you couldn't achieve with rare \ magical items.
for example - IceBlink, freezes with hit. you couldnt have that on a regular item or magical or any other unique item!
second example is the BoneSnap with +% crushing blow, once again no other unique had it..
What we have now is a pile of Legendaries that doesnt differ from one another !!! thats bullshit!
i mean the changes are so bland - one item with +10 attack while the other differ with +10 vitality.
what im saying is that all legendaries are using the same pool of attributes and dont have a unique characristics!!!
thats mega lame, and actually i was just seeing that D3 was delayed to early 2012 and it doesnt bother me as it was if i heard it ysterday.
NOTE: the +x random attribute on the legendaries is a blessed thing but doesnt solve the problem i stated since random adds to difference and not uniqueness and characteristic of items.
As you can see form the unique icons they aren't finished yet. You can also add enhancements to your unique sword to give it frost damage or whatever you're wanting.
My guess is that they are trying to avoid the "you need item X" to pull off this build syndrome - when the success or failure of a build depended entire on a single item it kind of invalidates the entire skill system.
Don't get me wrong - I would love to see more unique abilities show up on on certain weapons but if theyre not going to use any skills it really limits what they can do to differentiate items.
EDIT -@Doomscream Thanks for reminding me of that, now I'm a lot better..
I also liked the fact that some Uniques in Diablo 2 had pretty awesome characteristics, and I was hoping some of the D3 items would have those too, specially the ones where damage isn't the main focus of the item) compared to other Legendaries of the same "tier"/lvl.

I guess he means trully unique stats. +vitality, +crit chance, +fire_damage are all affixes you can find in pretty common Magic(blue) items, Uniques in D2 had some features that were literally only found in the "Uniques" class of items. Something like a Bow having a "pierces all enemies" attribute.
The data might not be final, but it doesn't mean it's not an indication of what they want Legendaries to be (common Magical items but just with more attributes). Would be a huge letdown for me.
And I wouldn't even mind if attributes like this one would appear on more than 1 Legendary, as long as they unique to Legendaries (which is what the OP is trying to say, I believe).
I don't mind the discussion, just the manner with which it was brought up (after all it sounded to me much more suitable for a local cheap pub). Sometimes even I derail into trolling etc, but after a subtle reminder from the mods I actually manage to put some effor into making a better post.
You're not the only one. The whole "BLIZZARD EFFED THINGS UP!" made me come here ready to close it and warn the OP.
Thankfully, I actually read the original post and I'm willing to understand people's feelings regarding things they loved in the franchise. I don't like the whole Nazi-mod stance either =]
I think the properties are way too similar but I'm optimistic they'll change this later. For example, Immortal King's and Natalya's Soul set boots do almost the exact same thing and have the exact same armor, the only thing separating them is the +1 random property...
My personal feelings on the matter? Custom mods like crushing blow ended up being a single, must-have, build maker/breaker. Yes, they were bad-ass, but to the point of being grossly imbalanced.
On the surface, omitting such stats seems to cheapen legendaries. But in my opinion, it will prevent dumbed-down min-maxing, which results in the inevitable domination of a few, OP cookie-cutter builds.
Oddly enough, we keep seeing this interesting trend: The less "unique" any given mechanic is, the more potential there is for unique builds... because no one thing overpowers build philosophy enough to become a must-have.
I like it.

This uniqueness of the items has been given to runes, to change the properties of skills. Why would we need a spell that has a rune doing fire dmg, and then all of a sudden freezes the monster in place. That makes a lot of sense

Went outside today, the graphics were ok. But the gameplay sucked
I'm not sure exactly what would make a Wizard get one of the lackluster Orbs when they can have the epicness that is Ivory Tower (Unique Shield), which can also have a socket, if I understand correctly.
Another example: Which monk would get one of the horrid class specific Spirit Stones over a godlike choice such as The Helm of Command. That item is like gamebreakingly OP.

Some really weird stuff is going on at Blizzard. I have the feeling they have put very little thought in atleast half of these items, just by browsing the site.

"Traitors! Even in death, the armies of Khanduras will still obey their king!"
I'm glad the "uniques" and legendaries have moved closer to the regular items.
Remember, this is up to level 60 only so far,. expansions will expand that by a lot.
And, this way there is still a point to normal items. The legendaries arent immediately a huge boost up from whatever else you were using. You might actually see people running around in GOOD rare items a lot more - give people some diversity instead of every sorceress or barbarian using the EXACT SAME items.
I loved the D2 crafting - and done it extensively.
It ensured you had a unique item that nobody else did, and in some cases they were better than the unique items.
If there was one thing about Diablo 2,, then it's that the "unique" items, were anything but that.

OP needs to learn to open a discussion with civility.
