But there's not Teal in that picture. It really is just about that color IMO
Oh, that was no directed at your concern, with which i personally cannot identify myself because as has been stated before, Teal is kind of a ghostly color if done translucent.
I just wanted to address false nostalgia.
Tell me where you see colourful magical lights in the map, like unexplaned blue torchs or green haze. All the colours in that screen shoot comes from player or monster skill, and those are there not for a artistic reason, but for gameplay alone. If poison nova turns everything in green and have a green shine, it has nothing to do with art direction.
In D3 however, the enviorment have pretty magical lights. Leoric's hall is filled with green and blue lights coming from nowhere. You can search D1 and D2 entirely and you won't find that. And thats vthe color pallet problem (player/monster skills and monster itself are hardly subject of color pallet discussions. Thats simple).
I think that they did a good job with colors in the game from what I have seen. I don't dislike the color teal, so it doesn't bother me. I think it's a good color to give the "ghostly" effect and I'm glad they stayed away from white which would have been a straight rip from Mephisto in D2.
Only the fact that the color bothers you that much is kinda sad, it's like you have a personal problem or something. Anyways, this encounter with Leoric will probably be the only time that you actually come across teal in major detail throughout the whole game. I imagine that each boss/act will have it's particular theme. Early game/beta just happened to have a teal theme, which you happen to dislike.

Playing a Wizard. Looking for Demon Hunters to play with.
The image stripped of the teal is very nice, and spooky, but I think the lack of color would wear on the eyes after a bit... things would become monotonous too quickly. I get a Diablo feel from the first one.
And, looking at that D2 screen, I'm instantly amazed at how much COLOR is present. It seems less Diablo-ish than D3, which is bollocks, because that is what defines Diablo, in a quite literal sense.

The color of missiles and magic skills is absolutely simultaneously a gameplay decision. You also get the magical colored lights in Diablo II if you have the quasi 3D mode on. Get poisoned and you radiate neon green light. Some unique monster mobs even radiated colors like light blue, red, pink, green, and other colors. Most of this is never seen by most Diablo II players because they don't chose or install the default graphical version.
Not to mention the oversaturation of green in the entire map, the neon lights flying everywhere, and any number of other things we could spot.
We got blue torches on every waypoint in Diablo II. It was never explained why they were blue. They just were, and we accepted it then. Now, if we see it in Diablo III, for some reason we question it, since Diablo III isn't defended by subjective nostalgia. These also radiate blue auras when activated in quasi-3D mode.
If Diablo II was actually done in cutting-edge 3D, most of the grittiness and emo-ness would be gone. That is only there because 3D models had to be mutilated while they turned them into 2D sprites, and because image compression slaughtered the textures. I'm not going to say it would be cartoony, but it certainly wouldn't be anything like it was in the game. The "color palette" is as much an accident as anything else.
I love how some people reason and base what they like or dislike in a game from a single screenshot. Wait until you play the game and see how it fits instead of spouting your dislikes left and right.

You assume I base my opinion on that screenshot only.
Since you're being picky on colors can you please change your avatar I don't like its color.

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.
I guess I see what the OP is saying, but to me the photoshopped white version explains why they didn't do it. Besides, if they were looking to have Leoric's colors fit in to the rest of the dungeon (which I think they pretty clearly do) then they'd have to make the dungeon white as well, which would probably just lead to it looking like heaven.
I prefer this one. The ghostly feel is improved IMO and there's no abuse of teal.
It looks too white now. The whiteness doesn't fit with the rest of the scene, and they would have to change the whole dungeon just to match that one character. I think the teal resonates well with the creepy/sewer-y feel of the tomb and with the dead guy who lives in said tomb. Plus, white is boring.

Lol, you hate teal?
I don't feel what it the way you changed it. It looks sort of dreamy/foggy, and looses it for me.
The teal looks ghost like. The first time I saw it, I thought 'Yes, now that looks right.' Even in D2, Meph didn't look ghostly to me, it just looked like an eerie fog sprouted from his torso. It didn't look bad, but I prefer the new teal look. It looks haunting.
Am I the only one who doesn't like that color ? I mean, it doesn't feel very Diablo-ish to me and I'd love Blizzard to drop that color from their palette.
I know I'm probably beating a dead horse, but it truly is something that bugs me. I don't think I recall seeing anything teal in Diablo 1 & 2.
Am I being too picky ?
Honestly? I think it looks fine. The colors and effects are much better than D2.

Well you did say you'd love it if Blizzard dropped it from their palette. I personally think the teal gives a very eerie and ghostly feel to the dungeon, and in order to fit in with the dungeon, Leoric has to have a similar color, and the color suits his ethereal theme.

Thanks for using a condescending tone.
I didn't tell Blizzard to remove the color, I simply stated an opinion as I wanted to know if it was shared with others.
Your post really adds nothing to this conversation.
Trying to make a point, as simple as that. Your post adds nothing that will affect anyone's game play.

What was your point? That it is not okay for him to have an opinion or that it is not okay for him to express it? He wasn't crying or making ridiculous demands, only saying that he didn't like a particular color choice.
The color scheme doesn't bother me in the least, I am actually really pleased with the art direction thus far but in no way does that have any relevance to somebody else's opinion. Bigotry runs deep here it seems

You are being EXTREMELY too picky. I thought the whining over the colour pallete was done last year.
