In diablo3 i would like to see a book type weild.(or like a globe) not so much with monks because they look badass with their 2h maces but for wizzys and WD's it would be suitable.
The book would take place of a shield(sort of like the heads necros hold). it would have little def but increase spell damage as much as a normal wep does for melee and it could also have resist as a sheild does. Since the book enhnces spell damage wands would not have a great effect.(not incuding 2h staves).
Just an idea.

I went outside once. The graphics were good but the gameplay sucked.
Yeah i like the idea, but I wouldnt see it as a shield-type item. Cuz well I dont think books make good shields XD I could see it giving +spellpower, +firedmage, +elemental resist%.. that sorta thing

This body holding me, reminds me of my own mortality.

I like the idea. I think it would make more sense in the hands of the wizard though, as study is an integral part of learning magic. If it did act as a shield, I think it would be cool for the block animation to look magic based, like a flash of blue light or something equally cool.
I like loud visuals
It make sense for a wiz... as she didn't finish her education she might need some "reference literature" to cast higher spells... the background story also says she entered some forbidden place where some of the most powerful spells were being kept... some of the books could come from there
maybe that's the idea behind the orbs... you know, those class specific item for the wiz... though it would look great if we have books
A wiz wielding a book and a wand looks pretty good and natural.
But i think books should'n't give defence or block rate. Stuff like magical resistance and caster status (cast speed, magic power, mana) is more apropriate. Maybe some bizarre kind of books, like a stone tablet or a book covered in metal.
Book-wielding is a whimsical and impractical way to go traveling all across the world casting spells on a moment's notice in my opinion. Books are for learning, not for shooting out magic. Orbs, wands, and staffs are conduits for magic and it only makes sense that they're used. When you want to learn a spell, you sit down for weeks reading, memorizing, and practicing the magic. When you want to use it, you put your hard work to good use and use wands, staffs, and orbs to channel and focus your magical intention.
I think that the would work really well with a book or orb type thing but not as a shield. The should have totems and charms, like monster teeth and skulls. These also could be held in the off hand.
might i suggest dolls for the witch doctor and organic items for the wizard, like an entitiy that binds to your hand or a flower that melts faces =3. im sick of armored books and their enchantedness, when you could enchant something else with binding runes etc that could be much more effective.. like a tablet
Yeah, anyway with the face-paced game intended, Wiz will have the time to take a break to read few pages... I can see a book for a shield but after 1 hit you see pieces of papier fly around. Great a shield that only block 1 hit !!
I don't see the purpose to have a book in a fight... It's little bit too commun in D&D world...
Books can be considered a item to focus just like anything else.
In real world hermetic "magic" (wich the rpg mages and wizards are inspired) sometimes books are used, not for the information in it, but as a ritual charm, just like alchemical symbols and amulets.
I was thinking in something like the book of shadows in Charmed... that thing was a great defense system if you ask me, no evil entity could touch it so if you held it in you hands it would work as a shield...
Yeah voodoo dolls sound pretty cool for the witchdoctor. I also really liked manmountain's idea for bound entities. I think a snake would be cool if like floated around her hand and looked cool. It should look more metallic though, like a living item. The flower was a cool idea too. Specialized one of a kind items are neat way to add more variety in the game.

Now for the book...Hmm...I don't know, but the Archivist keeps popping into my mind each time I think of a char using books.
that would be awesome. like a totem and a doll. very nice
Trolling but funny !!:offtopic:
