Okay so i was in history today and i got an idea of are you mroe for change or for keeping more things the same. Now I know sme thigns have changed aka skill trees inventory hotbar the classes the 3d the colors. So I'm wondering are you Conservative or liberal about diablo.
If you don't know what either those terms means here you go :
Liberal- It is a political view, They tend to be very open minded and want more changes to occur and if you are an extreme liberal youd like pretty much everything changed.
Conservatives are the complete opposite. They like things the way they were because they worked. Extremes would like absolutely everything the way it was when they were younger or in this case D1 style.
Me Personally I'm more of a Conservative, I'm open to a small amount of change though, I believe the skill trees worked so I'm really not too sure how those will turn out, and the color I actually like how its brighter, The hotbar is kind of a weird one like i dont know what to expect with it and the resource systems too. I do definetley love the inventory though it has greatly been improved.
Your thoughts?

I highly suggest certain people are very careful where this goes. Because of the nature of the idea here, it will be under close scrutiny to keep it from going off topic and in to flame wars.
Conservative - if the term is in the context of change relative to the status quo. Diablo II is arguably the definitive ARPG and one of the best games of all time.
Do I want a bunch of changes to the formula? No, not really. It seemed to work well.
Changes to the graphics, new story, player chars (so long as they fit in the universe - wink, wink), technology, and feature adds are great! Just don't change the core elements that made Diablo great from the start.
I am more of a liberal when it comes to games. I am not interested to play the same thing I did in D1 and D2. If the only changes are just the graphics and new names for the monsters/class, then no. I don't see the point of waiting for so long and getting the same game we had. I rather pop the old D2 and play it again.
Related to Diablo3, the company is more conservative than I wish. They "know" the formula that "works" and expect to pull the same success by doing the same. I don't think this will work out but I hope they prove me wrong. Here are a few reasons:
1. The gamers are not the same. For example, I am not anymore that 20 years old kid who can play this game every night non stop to exhaustion to 4am. I am 35 now. I go to bed around 12am, and will play at most 2-3 hours a day. I have seen and played games with great graphics. My expectations are different.
2. There is no doubt that D3 graphics will be better than D2. We are no more using Pentium, Windows 98 and direct X 3.0. Yet, the graphics engine has been developed since Diablo2 (years 2000), and will be even more outdated by the time the game comes out. BTW, this is true for every game out there (which is great for laptop users), but most companies don't spend 5 years on a product :
- Windows 7 took 9 years (it is an OS for god sake!)
- Final Fantasy XIII took 4 years.
- Guild Wars (including all 4 expansions) took 4 years
- Torchlight took 1 year
- Starcraft 1 took 3 years
- Starcraft 2 took 3 years
PS: Since 08-30-2009, I believed Blizzard will change the engine to 3D which will delay the game to 2012-2013
3. Competition. There are so many "similar" games that came out (i.e. Titan quest, Sacred, Dungeon Siege 2, Torchlight, Guild Wars 1, Gauntlet; D&D, God of Wars, Bayonetta, The Dark Eye), and will come out between Diablo2 and Diablo3. There are tons of MMO out there too (i.e. WOW, aion, Final Fantasy, tons of other Korean games...). While it is not the D3, these games take a lot of potential players/buyers from D3.
4. Therefore the game need to reinvent itself. But you can't reinvent the game with just nice movies. Movies are not part of the gameplay, and I doubt people will watch them over and over and over. You can't reinvent the game with just changing the names of classes from the previous franchises. For example, the classes are so far similar to D2: we have Barbarian (same as in D2), Witch Doctor (similar to Necromancer curse line), Wizard (=Sorcerer), Monk (similar to Paladin).
If you really want to reinvent yourself, maybe Blizzard should really be in 3D (like Avatar). One thing is sure: they need to make the game really special to attract customers. It is also possible the game could be canceled like Duke Nuken Forever after such a long time too. I hope not, but well...
My 2 cents
PS: This is an opinion. For example, I am NOT saying that if we don't use 3D glasses & 3D monitors, or we can't cook, etc... this game will fail.

The engine is 3D. It just has an isometric angle. And they haven't been working on the engine since 2000, I'm pretty sure it was at least 2005. LoD came out in 2001. Don't quote me on that, though.
On it being in 3D:
Diablo III will use a custom 3D game engine[8] in order to present an overhead view to the player, in a somewhat similar way to the isometric view used in previous games in the series[7] Enemies will utilize the 3D environment as well, in ways such as crawling up the side of a wall from the depths into the combat area.[5] Every creature model will have around 35 unique death animations.[9]
On development:
Development on Diablo III began some time in 2005 when Blizzard North was still in operation. The original artistic design differed from that shown at Blizzard Worldwide Invitational 2008 demonstration, and had undergone three revisions before reaching the standards felt necessary by the team behind Diablo III. The development teams comprised fifty people. Most of the game mechanics and physics are complete, and are undergoing minor revisions. Most of the current and remaining development will focus on adding game content.[21]
the classes are so far similar to D2: we have Barbarian (same as in D2), Witch Doctor (similar to Necromancer curse line), Wizard (=Sorcerer), Monk (similar to Paladin)
I'd argue the Monk is vastly more similar to the Assassin but is a refreshing mix of the two and that all of the above classes are archetypes present in every fantasy game and you can't have a fantasy game without them. To each his own, though. I could see how that could be annoying.
I just really would hate the game if it didn't come with a magical glass cannon. I need that in Diablo.
Why did they bother making a 3D engine if they display in isometric angle? That's so old fashion.
So it is 5 years of development so far? hmmm it is not too long like I was really worry about, but it is not over yet

Yeah, 2005 is still a long time ago. That's five years as of now x.x By release that could be six or seven years (or longer...).
Edit~
Although, there are lots of modern games that are still using old engines. I don't think the engine is particularly a concern. You can make the graphics a lot better without creating a new engine. I'm not a programmer, though, so take it with a grain of salt.

Because that, to a large degree, is a part of Diablo, and was the wish of the vast majority of fans
o well. it would have been nice i gues for the things you cant see becuase a nice ol wall is in the way. instead of having to press altto make sure something didnt drop. w/e.
in a sick sense, i hope they do upgrade the engine so that it still works on 95% of computers on lower settings, but really pushes other computers while staying above 45+ fps. i really want it too look epic while battling diablo

Agreed. The gear system, barter system(so much better then farming xxx gold and buying things, since barter actually requires some experience and knowledge), wide range of potential builds and gear set ups, many ways to be either a nice guy or a jerk, and freedom to be able to hostile anyone anytime rather then be limited to lame arena pvp are all things that made D2 fantastic that none of the less popular clones came close to emulating.
I'm looking forward to the updated graphics, faster servers that hopefully won't desynch and lag as much, hopefully a lack of hacks, new skills and classes, and a revamped socketing system that I can think of off hand, but some of the things the are really leaving a sour taste in my mouth if they come to be in the final version...
1. auto stats - D2 had max block, max vit, and a few speciality set ups like ES sorc and glass cannons. Rather then work on ways to promote more variety in stat distribution they take the lame way out...make every character identicle.
2. gold economy - In a gold based game the guy playing for 3 years is always going to be richer then the new guy, since he's just had more time to horde gold away. Everything boils down to I need to grind xxx hours to farm xxx gold. At least bartering nothing really has a set value, items all have a relative value to eachother and people are willing to give you good deals if you have something they need. I might be able to get a high rune for an um'd shako if some rich guy needs one fast, but if D2 had a gold based economy a good deal like that would never happen, he'd just buy one since a shako and an um would both have a relatively set gold value.
3. Any type of pk nerfing. Its Diablo, a world filled with evil and hatred. Why stop me from being a bad guy, especially when theres already a ton of ways for people to avoid griefing, mainly just kill the guy screwing with your group, join a different pub, a recruit friends or people in a pub to join some passworded runs.
While I embrace change on some levels, it seems to me like the simple formula to find out what made D2 better then all the wannabes would be to compare what D2 had that they didn't, and make sure to carry those traits into D3, but unfortunately it doesn't seem like this is how Blizzard is thinking:( Maybe some day we'll get Diablo 3 under a different name but this game should be called POKEdungeon or something.
Now you remind about how much hate goes in Diablo, there is 2 things I wish to see:
- A marketplace system for buying/selling stuff
- A bounty board where several people can put a bounty on someone but only people around the same level or less can hunt down that person. So if you hate someone level 50, you could drop a bounty on his head, and every level 55 or less can see which game he is playing, hunt him down and get the reward once he is dead. That would be "fun" in hardcore mode...

A bounty board does sound cool! Especially when you get a scammer or PKer. Just throw them up there on an account basis. It's basically justice by the people
