I love all the speculations based on nothing. It is safe to say here that *whatever* Blizzard is doing is awesome...

I am sure employees are not morally affected by the employment loss, and are working as hard than ever to make the best game ever produced on mankind that will come out very very soon... just not this year

Now you remind about how much hate goes in Diablo, there is 2 things I wish to see:

    - A marketplace system for buying/selling stuff
    - A bounty board where several people can put a bounty on someone but only people around the same level or less can hunt down that person. So if you hate someone level 50, you could drop a bounty on his head, and every level 55 or less can see which game he is playing, hunt him down and get the reward once he is dead. That would be "fun" in hardcore mode...

Oh thank you for letting me know my mistakes:

Why did they bother making a 3D engine if they display in isometric angle? That's so old fashion.
So it is 5 years of development so far? hmmm it is not too long like I was really worry about, but it is not over yet

posted a message on Liberal or conservative?
I am more of a liberal when it comes to games. I am not interested to play the same thing I did in D1 and D2. If the only changes are just the graphics and new names for the monsters/class, then no. I don't see the point of waiting for so long and getting the same game we had. I rather pop the old D2 and play it again.

Related to Diablo3, the company is more conservative than I wish. They "know" the formula that "works" and expect to pull the same success by doing the same. I don't think this will work out but I hope they prove me wrong. Here are a few reasons:

    1. The gamers are not the same. For example, I am not anymore that 20 years old kid who can play this game every night non stop to exhaustion to 4am. I am 35 now. I go to bed around 12am, and will play at most 2-3 hours a day. I have seen and played games with great graphics. My expectations are different.

    2. There is no doubt that D3 graphics will be better than D2. We are no more using Pentium, Windows 98 and direct X 3.0. Yet, the graphics engine has been developed since Diablo2 (years 2000), and will be even more outdated by the time the game comes out. BTW, this is true for every game out there (which is great for laptop users), but most companies don't spend 5 years on a product :
    - Windows 7 took 9 years (it is an OS for god sake!)
    - Final Fantasy XIII took 4 years.
    - Guild Wars (including all 4 expansions) took 4 years
    - Torchlight took 1 year
    - Starcraft 1 took 3 years
    - Starcraft 2 took 3 years
PS: Since 08-30-2009, I believed Blizzard will change the engine to 3D which will delay the game to 2012-2013

    3. Competition. There are so many "similar" games that came out (i.e. Titan quest, Sacred, Dungeon Siege 2, Torchlight, Guild Wars 1, Gauntlet; D&D, God of Wars, Bayonetta, The Dark Eye), and will come out between Diablo2 and Diablo3. There are tons of MMO out there too (i.e. WOW, aion, Final Fantasy, tons of other Korean games...). While it is not the D3, these games take a lot of potential players/buyers from D3.

    4. Therefore the game need to reinvent itself. But you can't reinvent the game with just nice movies. Movies are not part of the gameplay, and I doubt people will watch them over and over and over. You can't reinvent the game with just changing the names of classes from the previous franchises. For example, the classes are so far similar to D2: we have Barbarian (same as in D2), Witch Doctor (similar to Necromancer curse line), Wizard (=Sorcerer), Monk (similar to Paladin).
If you really want to reinvent yourself, maybe Blizzard should really be in 3D (like Avatar). One thing is sure: they need to make the game really special to attract customers. It is also possible the game could be canceled like Duke Nuken Forever after such a long time too. I hope not, but well...

    My 2 cents

PS: This is an opinion. For example, I am NOT saying that if we don't use 3D glasses & 3D monitors, or we can't cook, etc... this game will fail.

posted a message on Will D3 Make History?
Yes this game will make history and will join the rank of famous games like "Daikatana" or "Duke Nuken Forever", depending on what they are doing right now in Blizzard.
Personally, I think Blizzard are working on using a new full 3D engine like in Starcraft to make good competition to Torchlight and Guild Wars2. In doing so, they are delaying the game by several years.

2011? rofl... I knew I can rely on this forum for entertainment purpose.
Just look at my signature... that's my prediction and I am sticking to it. If Blizzard can prove me wrong, that's great. If not, the joke is on them.

posted a message on Is it me, or are D2's cinematics better than D3's ?
in the end, what count is not the cinematic inside trailers. What matter is the game.
What Blizzard is doing is giving you something to keep you waiting. However the last trailer was so bad, it was a waste of time for the Diablo3 team to even work on it. Moreover it may have the opposite effects on many fans.

It is like finding this old phone number of this chick so beautiful & smart you met several years ago. But when you call her, you hear what sound like your grandma... And then you wonder if you want to even bother finding more about her, or looking for better girls. In my case, I found someone else (right now SF4 and later on Guild Wars 2). She is all yours.

PS: I play on SF4 on PC, under the same username.

posted a message on Diablo III Release "still a long way to go"
I just got an email telling me someone reply to my old message.

    1997 Diablo1
    2000 Diablo2
    2011 DIablo3?? eh? ... WHAT?

Are you f*** kidding me? 11 years to make a slashing game? Well if the game take 2 more years from now, it has better be truly amazing or this is going to fail like "Duke Nuken Forever". And we all know Blizzard. They ALWAYS delay the release. it is probably going to take until 2012 or 2013.

And what kind of crappy marketing is this? How can Blizzard keep generating so much hype over a game that will take such a long time? Moreover, by the time they finish developing the game, the D3 engine may looks like crap compared to the competition.

This is madness. Forget it. I am truly switching to Guild Wars 2.

posted a message on New Monk Gameplay vid [best part is ..]
    None sorry.

    Where can I even start?

Well... the trailer for the monk class looks total crap compared to the previous trailers. Not only the graphics were horribly bad, it focused only on animation and not on actual gameplay.

The new class is the monk, and that name is nothing original. However when I see the monk plays, I realize this is not a monk. This is some kind of barbarian/mage that just blow up stuff. In a way, this game is like what Mythos should have been.

But let's recapitulate: We have the barbarian which is your typical warrior, a witch doctor which seem a bit original, a wizard which is like an elementalist, and a monk...eh... can I guess the next one? It is going to be archer/ranger and this game is going to have the same class as Guild Wars 1 with random dungeon on flat land.

I played the Diablo 1 and 2 since the day it comes out and for many years. But after seeing the trailer of Guild Wars2, I will buy that latter game over D3. I seriously hope that Diablo3 is only 10% done. If they are like +50% done, then the game has quite a high chance to be a disappointment.

    Good luck all.

posted a message on Who of the original Diablo team is working on D3?
Ok here are the answers you wanted to hear and I am writing this without any sarcasm not to make this thread longer but to close it. No need to thank me.

    Diablo1:
Designer(s): Erich Schaefer, Eric Sexton, Max Schaefer, David Brevik, Kenneth Williams (game developer)
    Composer(s): Matt Uelmen

    Diablo2:
Designer(s): Erich Schaefer, Eric Sexton, Max Schaefer, David Brevik, Stieg Hedlund
    Composer(s): Matt Uelmen

    Diablo2: Lord of Destruction
    Designer(s): Peter Brevik
    Composer(s): Matt Uelmen

    Diablo3:
Designer(s): Jay Wilson (lead), Leonard Boyarsky (world)
    Composer(s): Russell Brower[1]

According to wiki, D1, D2 and D3 are different products.
The development team changed between each game. Some people left for better opportunity. Some of them left because "they wanted to try something new"=they are fed of working on Diablo. Some of them left because of bad teamwork! You end up with different people who formed different teams. D3 will not be like the team of D1 or D2 wanted. It will be very different. The graphics will also change. The sound will also change. The music will be slightly different. The network code and anti-cheating may also be updated. And there will be a lot more changes. The most drastic change will occur in Diablo3 for sure. This team is new!

Does that mean you will end up with a shitty Diablo? It depends. Do you like the graphics? That's probably not going to change much. For anything else, I don't know. YOU don't know either. Nobody know! We can't judge without a demo by just looking at some pictures and so few videos. It is hard to judge the gameplay when it may come out in about 1 F** YEAR!! Maybe in the end of 2009, I will yell in this forum "this game blows. I am out"... and I will be gone trying other games. Or maybe this game will bring a new experience that I would find very addictive and exciting. For example, I didn't know what to think much about Guild Wars because I am not into PvP at all, but the PvE part of Guild Wars keep me playing that game until last year. It is like trying to compare Windows Vista to Windows XP. Different team=different experience.

It all depends on your expectations. What you want is not what I want (look at my first post/thread)! And what I want is not what everyone want. Does it mean this game is not for me if it doesn't match my expectations? I dunno yet. I am just patiently waiting for ONE YEAR to find out how D3 will turn out. We are just giggling like girls, and speculating like nerds over something not even out. It is cool. Some people find it fun. You know what I am worry? I am worry this game will NEVER come out (like Mythos). Maybe this game will come out with bugs like GTA4 on PC (it doesn't work for me). Maybe it will suck like Daikatana. Or maybe the game will be Duke Nukem Forever. It is just speculations.

Back to YOUR topic! The team is different. They already screw up the graphics, the sound, story, the music. They may also screw up the gameplay, and more. I AGREE they did screw up the Diablo you grew up. Some fans think the graphics is like WoW (because of Jay Wilson). By adding blood to the game does not make it a success (ex: Requiem: Bloodymare). The graphics and sounds will be higher quality (PS: I HATE DIABLO MUSIC). Personally I don't care about the story. But yes... the story will be from someone you never heard of. You don't know what this game will be about and who is the end boss (well I think it is Diablo). Gameplay... very different and still under development. We know they are thinking about a lot of ideas by looking at all the "cool" stuffs from other games. But what is cool is an opinion (I would find it cool to have all the classes from Guild Wars in Diablo3, but that's me).

So what is D3 in the end? It is a hack-slash RPG that follow the story line of Diablo. That's it. Nothing else. As a fan of Diablo series, I have a several video of Diablo3 on my youtube account (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=yes4me), and I just hope this game is addictive as it was in the past. I am GLAD it is not the same as before, because this is NOT an expansion: it is a new game with new ideas by some guy who worked on WoW, Starcraft II, Warhammer 40000. In short, D1/D2 vs D3 is like getting a DELL instead of a HP. In the end it is still a computer/game. Take a break. Relax. Enjoy the ride or just try something else.

posted a message on Who of the original Diablo team is working on D3?
I don't agree. For the coding part, who cares. Writing "hello world" in java can be done by anyone. I agree that D3 is not that simplistic, but since they are using a new engine they need experts in that engine. The only part that really make the big difference is the artistic part and gameplay part. I don't think the team will matter much in term of work done. I just hope they have a great chemistry between the developers to insure good communication and a good product. Because you have new people, we all get a new version of Diablo. If you just wanted to update the D1 or D2 with the old team, they should have made a expansion instead.

That been said, it is taking them forever to finish this... and therefore you could be right: Maybe that team is not as focused as the previous ones. Or maybe D3 is way better than I expected.

Since we are talking about other games, what do you think of "Sacred2"? I just heard of this game recently, and some people praised it is better than D3. I haven't play this game notr the previous ones, but how good/bad is it compared to D3?
