game was announced in 2008 probably wont see it till late 2010 or early 2011. reasoning? every game they pretty much developed has been released 2-3 years after they were announced. diablo 3 will come out after starcraft 2. starcraft 2 will go into beta im guessing some time around summer early fall then maybe released in 2009 winter or early q1 2010. then diablo 3 needs a beta. blizzards beta's usually last 2-4 months long close. then need 2 months to finalize then hit the market. we have a long time to go...
You should search the forum, there are more detailed, and explanatory threads about this topic.
It's actually kind of interesting that someone wrote that much about it, lol..

"Not Even Death Can Save You From Me" ~ Diablo (II)
What else did you think? Assuming that it would get out anytime before 2011 is and was wishful thinking.
They finished and demonstrated a tiny fraction of the game, and people were like "OMG ITS COMING OUT THIS YEAR". People act like this is the first Blizzard game they are waiting to get out and have never before witnessed how Blizzard works.
if your a fan of diablo 3. and usually how blizzard games work... expect a thriving community for up to at-least 8 years. look at diablo 2 and wc3 for instance. both games still have a pretty good player base. i do believe diablo 3 will not go over 5 acts. but that doesnt mean expansions cant add more content or a new boss.

Agreed, before 2011 is definitely wishful thinking.
So many people tripped right out at the things released, not realizing that all the screenshots were from 2 different areas, basically means that 2 areas were polished and playable enough to release to the public (dungeons, and the exterior world around the dungeon)

Imo, making a game that completely rox and is bought in millions but gets abandoned after 2 years, is a failure. A win moneywise but still a failure. Blizzard has pretty much succeeded in making all of their genres replayable forever. And like you said, D3 and Wc3 still has alot of players, and those old games are still funnier than 90% of the games that are released today in terms of replayability. I have bought and recieved over 100 games in the last 8 years, but it is only the Blizzard games that I find fun to play over and over again (and a little Counterstrike). They have the best games in the RTS genre with Starcraft and Warcraft, and they owned all mmorpgs with WoW. If it takes a little longer for Blizzard to make their games, who cares! The games they make are replayable forever, because no other company has been able to make something that is better than their games, again in terms of replayability. So if it takes a extra year to give us 15 extra years of gameplay, who gives a shit.
Also agreed lol, Blizzard has a track record of making incredible games that are playable for years afterwards, Hell, i still frequently play most of their games, even Diablo 1 ^^.
I'm really with you about the extra gameplay, Blizzard takes it's time because they know how to make games, who gives a shit if it takes them an extra year or two to polish their game up, it will be well worth the wait.

"One in every 10 million people can potentially have a headache from this pill." God forbid she is the 0.000000001% of having a headache.
Rob Pardo at Blizzard said "the game is really far along". If something is really far along, then I would expect a beta coming within a year. But that's just me. Looking at the info shown, it's years away though.
You didn't even play the game (not yet finished) and you say it failed. Well you just failed.
The game has been in development for 12 years with countless posthumous release dates but was always delayed for one reason or another and just this month it was officially dropped/canceled. I would call this a failure - a grave disappointment - but a failure.:offtopic:
Heh... good ol' Duke Nukem.
Great games way back when. Made during a time when all you needed to make a great game was big guns, a ripped dude, and babes.
*sigh*
I miss those days.
Sad that DNF won't come out though, was kindof looking forwards to seeing how it would turn out.
Probably wouldn't go out of my way to buy the game, but still.

It won't come out as late as 2012, but I think 2011 is a definite possibility. I would like to tell myself Q3 or Q4 of 2010, but I don't really see that happening. I'll keep myself occupied with SC2 until it comes out, but I would like to see it released before I go off to grad school.

Near the end of next year seems pretty reasonable, no doubt Blizzard will scramble to try to release it before Christmas, they would stand to make even more money.
I'd assume sometimes between 2011 and 2012.

Are you for real? Since when does Blizzard rush their releases to make money? They will work on something for ten years and then scrape it rather than release it if it does not meet the standard. They have a reputation to maintain, and they'd rather lose some money by not releasing something earlier than release something that wasn't ready for release.

Good chance they've set it to be 'finished' somewhere mid next year, but more using it as a pressing deadline (every professional project needs a deadline, it motivates to get it finished) and not an actual release date.
No. First of all, not every professional project needs a deadline, and Blizzard most certainly does not need motivation to finish a project. Amateurs need motivation to finish projects, not Blizzard. Second of all, deadlines are set because of financial reasons. Blizzard does not have any financial concerns in the big picture. Creative teams handle their own pace and there is never a deadline (not with Blizzard).
They will take all the time in the world if necessary.
To an extent I think you're right, but not entirely. I doubt they have anything even resembling a hard deadline internally, but they wouldn't have announced the game at all if they didn't have a vague horizon they knew was approaching. If they felt like the game was 3-5 years away, they wouldn't have announced it yet. It could end-up being 3 years before it's released just due to unforeseen circumstances of course, but they're not going to sit around saying: "Hey, we have no idea how much longer this will take, let's just tell them for kicks!"
But I do agree they certainly don't have much 'pressure' as far as needing a game launch to make money, etc. Though having announced the game, shown gameplay, allowed demo play at last Blizzcon, offered content updates (i.e., bestiary), I think those things will offer something in the way of pressure, because they know they have a very large and very rabid fan base frothing at the mouth now.

Source please?
The world may never know...
I dont think we have to worry about that.....I still remember the wait for D2 and WC3 that was long as hell but it was worth it
