no you misunderstand.
me personally? at one point in my life i hosted public 8 player games 18 hours a day every day for a time.. i love to group. but also to solo.
i'm just saying i think the two should not to be mutually exclusive

they'll never see me coming.. life is a sequence of tragedies, inconsistent only by fleeting, elusive moments of pleasure,
serving only to ensure absolute vulnerability to the pain of their inevitable absence.
i don't think they should balance it around 4 players...
i liked it in diablo 2 where it scaled: ("diablo's minions grow stronger" "diablo's minions weaken")
but that you couldn't (reasonably) get to the highest levels without team effort (or using multiple games run yourself)
balanced to one player. scaled based on players in the game. rewards EASIER or FASTER to attain through team work but not unattainable for the soloist.
that was one of the best things about d2.. PERFECT for the solo player but also allowed for grouping that was balanced around the number of players.
i really hope they don't mess with that.
i realize people want to play together raid together.. but there's a lot of games that cater to that playstyle and leave solo players on the sidelines.
i hope d3 can please both kinds of players (soloers and those that want hard fights that take the coordination of many) and i agree that balance around 4 players seems to please no one.
but i'm not sure that they have said that they're balancing the game around having 4 players present; just that it was the current max allowed in a game.
i'im hoping that it scales with level and that more than 4 is the max, but just have to wait and see.
D2 was not balanced for 8 people. 1 person could do all the killing and 7 people sit there. If you are going to let 8 people in a game you need to force it so at least half of the people need to get involved to be successful. Just adding a scaling factor to monster health/damage is not balancing, its a quick afterthought...
whether or not they were successful at it in d2 (it was balanced up until end game when a character had ideal gear), i still think the scaling is the best option, and hopefully they can improve on it.
balancing the game to any certain, set number of players is not the way to go, though imo.
there's soloist
there's people with 5 friends or 17 friends or guilds that can't all fit
there's casual gamers that don't want to spend half their playtime finding the right amount (and right classes) of group members
scaling (done right) is a way to please everyone

I don't want to have to cooperate with god damn anyone. There are so many total idiots out there that I don't want any of them slowing me down. The last thing I want is to be forced to group with them at any time, and for any reason. Call me arrogant or whatever, that's the main reason I quit WoW in the first place. The only reason to play these games online is trade/pvp, and WoW trade/pvp sucks hence its mediocre staying power with me.
It can be fun to play cooperatively with a player one knows and trusts. But it shouldn't be compulsory by any stretch of the term.

I don't see how anyone can possibly disagree with this post, or agree with Jay Wilson on this.
Me. Jay Wilson is exactly right. The author of this thread was basically saying, 1.2 players per game is misleading b/c most people MF by themselves. Yea, BY THEMSELVES! Hence the statistic.
Jay Wilson is exactly right when he gives his reasons. Why would I mf with a party of 2 or more if somebody could steal my drops? You don't. Everyone knows mfing itself isn't fun at all. The only fun part is the 2 seconds after you kill a boss (which is pretty fun) where you find out what drops you get. And 4 out of 5 times you're dissapointed. (Especially now when everyone has god items).
Also, PKing, while much less of a problem, was definatly a pain in the ass. Remember trying to get a group of 4 or 5 guys together to kill ancients, and some lvl 95 hammerdin douchebag would pretend to help then backstab? Even though I would have other chars who could probably kick his ass, by the time I went back and got them he probably would have left and the game is basically ruined.
Bottom line, I would welcome new loot systems (even though ninjaing items was fun at times) and a new PvP system for the reasons JW stated.
Also, for every MF game, there are probably a few 8 people baal games that bring the average to 4.5.
lmao if u want privacy play offline ppl make standalone games to magic find, p.s. if u get pked on a andy run...its annoying but no 1 ever really cares in 3..2...1

yeah but if ur pk'd after u get to 25 its a pain...id have to say most of my friends on hardcore were pkers so i went in games with them while they lvled me and they would pk others, and then when i was lvling them it was a pain in the ass bc they would never ever go public, and where was the skill of tppk the program thats what they all did and pin_y or w/e was the biggest pker on hc east ladder and i remember he would never duel was a douche just tppk'd which pissed me off so therefore i was usually in 8 player games that never allowed pkers in and if anyone leaked the game name they were banned shit like that is what was resorted to deal with this...i would say make it to where the other players accept hostility then you could solve the problem of pubbing and to mf well seriously mfing in 8 player games is only for the elite, just make a game "free items" "i dupe for u" wait till newbs join and kill bosses but most of the people mf'd in priv bc its easier and same drops, all luck, ive found 12 sojs this ladder season and my friend has never found a single one ever for like 6 years playing...so its all luck if they change it to where better drops in pub games that would also solve the problem, i know they had that sort of system but it obviously wasn't that perfect and the mf % was also bs how does someone who has over 1k mf find the same elite stuff at the same rate of someone who has 75% total from shako and coh?
in regards to the player limit and a much smaller extent the hostility, I am a firm believer that solving an issue or problem by taking things away from the game makes the game feel too limited. I seen this happen to some games, where developers try to fix something by taking away from the game instead of proposing a real solution. This is mainly in regards to the player cap.
If someone wanted to only play with say 2-3 other people thats why there is options to limit the number of players. Players like options, options, and more options. I am completely against the 4 player limit and hope that isn`t the case officially, because reading about this has killed off my D3 buzz.

has there been any new word on hostility?
diablo 3 should have hostility. at LEAST include hostility in hardcore mode.
