honestly i'm annoyed by the complaints about the graphics (lighting or otherwise) look at all of blizzards games. all of them have that "Cartoonish" feel, why would they change it up for diablo?
Looks like Tristram Cathedral...

-My Position on Black Metal: "So you know those annoying kids you see running around listening to crap radio rock bands wearing tripp jeans and shopping at hot topic? Well, Black Metal is just the next big thing... have fun with your trends, I'm gonna stay metal"
What i'm saying is, blizzards game in general do not have a very realistic lighting experience, so why would they change it up for one game.
Um, no game ever had lighting that I could look at and say "excellent". It's a huge technology problem, and has nothing to do with whatever Blizzard did.
Last time I checked, Blizzard 2D games did a pretty good job with lighting in terms of realism, perhaps not so much in terms of design. I don't get your point.
The only recent 3D game they have actually made is WCIII and WoW, both of which are 3D transfers, made during the period of low-poly graphics. Again, it's a technology problem. We can't know 100% what exactly did Blizzard really intend, and how would it all look, if they could make the games more graphics intensive. Even then. WarCraft is not Diablo, it's a different universe.
I don't really look at Diablo III as a direct continuation, because I am not too happy with DII. Considering that DIII is already pretty far from DII, I can freely speak my mind about what DIII should look like. And I prefer games with realistic graphics piled on top of unrealistic design. How the game looked previously does not concern me. DI and DII have nothing in common with graphics except 2D.
Go and look at the havok engine list of game.
Find image of each game on google.
None of them look like diablo 3 graphic.
The 2 ones that look most is:
World of warcraft ( Can't be because of angle)
Mythos ( Can't be because there is no cathedral/dungeon of that kind)
I also looked for some wrong details on photoshop and the statue look 100% real to me.
Havok is a physics engine. Not graphics.

Well, I never said it wasn't a real D3 screen shot, but I think it's probably shopped to look darker. It is ok, but I couldn't imagine blizzard going from blue/green "you can see the entire dungeon" to that, were you can barely see half. And others itt have said it looks shopped as well.
And in that one there was a light radius, which I don't really want in this game. It really doesn't make any sense unless you're wearing glowing armor. It was ok for Diablo 2, but I think they should keep it out, or at least make it very weak, in D3.

I dunno how much you played on the earlier Diablo game, but yea, it had a light radius. Which to me looks like you stuck a lantern in your tailpipe, but I didn't mind it much in those games. It would bother me more now, though.
I did not say that you can. Do you have to see all of it?
The way I imagine it, the important areas, aka main areas, are the ones that can be well lit. Other areas, for example, where a chest may be hidden, may be darker or even black until your character comes over.
Why jump between extremities like "make it all black" and "make it all brightly lit".

They could implement torches instead, I liked that in games like Gothic and Oblivion.

Can't see anything AT ALL on the upper side... I hate that.
