You seem to be contradicting yourself. Aren't people who feel powerful and sexy when they "look at an art depiction" basing their own self-worth from it?
I never said that I speak for all women, I just think that your suggestion that women want to see a bunch of playboy bunnies running around in Hell is a bit off the mark, because I for one am not attracted to other women. I also think that there are better ways to feel powerful & sexy than sitting at home and killing demons in a computer game.
If a super skinny waist and super huge boobs are the average male's idea of an attractive woman, then obviously women who aren't built like that are going to be a bit put off, don't you think? Why else would so many women be so concerned about their appearances? (Ok, not ALL women are too concerned, and good for them, but I'm sure you cannot deny the tendency.)
I'm probably getting off topic though, as this is a more general observation rather than one corresponding merely to Diablo heroines. I just want the females in the D3 classes to look realistic as far as the game goes... powerful and respectable warriors, not just a bunch of playboy bunnies out for a good time.
I don't know where in the world you got that I suggested women have to play a video game to feel sexy or strong. You are really reaching with this entire post, here. Many players, including women, like to immerse themselves in their games and enjoy playing characters that are not only powerful, but interesting, deep and attractive.
Super skinny waist.
Huge boobs.
Playboy bunnies.
I'm sorry, where exactly were any of these things mentioned by me? Hell, even hinted at?
I feel like I'm wasting my time because you aren't being honest with the expression of your viewpoints OR the representation of mine or what I've said. If you would like to continue this debate in an honest, reasonable way, I'm all for it. I simply have no reason to continue to respond to arguments that are blown so ridiculously out of proportion.
Cheers

Wanting to see equal representation for male and females is hardly extremist.
Perhaps you need a new dictionary.
If only that were true, but apparently, everyone has glossed over the fact that I agreed from the start that it was perfectly acceptable for men to be represented in the same fashion.

An amazon though shold be FIT as she would have been fighing and running.
The amazons in Diablo II are a good example of how not to portray women. Large breasts are fine and all for the right situation (regardless of what anyone says), but for an amazon, it simply doesn't make any sense. They cannot aim or fire their weapons correctly with large bags of glands and meat that get in the way. Amazons from our own history used to amputate one or both of their breasts so that they could successfully nock and fire their weapons with greater accuracy.
Cheers,

(3) There are a great number of women who enjoy having sexy female characters to look at, either (a) for bragging rights, (b) to feel powerful and sexy themselves while immersing themselves in the game or (c) because quite a large portion of the female population actually has a sexual attraction TO other women and enjoy looking at them the same way boys/men do.
OK, for the THIRD TIME, I am quoting the above. I want to follow me carefully, SmashBoy, lest someone else who doesn't totally agree with your POV be dismissed as being totally dishonest. I want you to read where it says "to feel powerful and sexy themselves while immersing themselves in the game". Can you read that? That is where you suggested a reason that women liked to have such "sexy female characters to look at", and the simple untruth of it is what I'm trying to get across to you. I have not been trying to accuse you of anything, so please, stop getting all defensive.

Correction. Amazons from our own /mythology/ used to amputate one or both of their breasts so that they could successfully nock and fire their weapons with greater accuracy.
Edit: There is some speculation the myth was founded in truth via connection to an order of priestesses who would often do much of what the Amazonian myth was founded on, so I'll put it between history and mythology.

I'm just going to agree to disagree at this point, because you continue to be dishonest with your representation of my views. You can claim it is being "defensive" all you like, but when you aggressively attack a position I never actually took, then what's the point in talking to you? You fail to take responsibility for claiming I said things which I clearly never have, such as "playboy bunnies" or "super skinny waists", or that I even remotely suggested women must play nearly or completely naked women in video games in order to feel good about their own bodies.
Smashboy, you have to start consolidating your posts. You had a triple post back there. You CAN quote more than once, ya know.

I do not believe I misunderstood anything. I'm not the one making bold, dishonest claims. Either way, I have chosen to stray from discussing the issue with her for the time being. I would still love to see more viewpoints on the future art depiction of females in Diablo III, and I hope that the discussion can continue for a long time.

Not that I should probably make comment, but I gotta agree with Smashboy, I know a lot of males who find it cool being depicted as a powerful muscled hero in game, I find it hard to believe that there aren't females who find it cool to be depicted as a beautiful powerful character in game. Besides I also know girls who do prefer to be depicted as such and the number of MMO's and 3d chats where people are given the option to make any character they choose and invariably end up making "beautiful" ones as opposed to not also shows that people are vain in game.

I'm not sure how true that is, I will admit. But the fact remains; it would be extremely difficult for the amazons in D2 to be able to nock, aim and fire their weapons with the jumbling bags they carried around. Wouldn't you agree?
Cheers,
SmashBoy (though not extremely functional, they sure are huggable)
i dont mind sexy women in d3. i dont mind rugged one either. to each his own. female barbs should look a little butch and female witch doctors should have grass skirts or whatever. i mean, put rational design behind each class, a 110 lb, 7'0 female barb doesnt really make sense, while a 5'6 clearly african witch doctor shouldnt be wearing big obstructive armor.

And this has been my experience for many years, as well. I asked my wife to pop onto the forum and skim over and see if she agreed with me, and it sounds like she does (hopefully, she'll just say so herself in a few minutes). I said since the beginning post in this thread that I absolutely did not mind having men depicted that way, but some people are dishonestly glossing over that fact, choosing to believe that all men are drooling, homophobic hornballs. It's a pity, really, in this day and age.

I never claimed you said women should have super skinny waists or huge boobs, ok? I was making a different point, which may enlighten you should you choose to reread that post.

Hello all! This is SmashBoy's wife. Just thought I'd check this place out.
I personally hope the women are sexy hawt, but hearing I am in the minority makes me wonder who you people talk to. Playing sexy characters is one of the added bonuses of playing online games. Although, I generally spend more time focused on the game then what my character looks like. My paladin on everquest had the same color armour for umm...2 years? I don't member. My wizard on the other hand, I picked dark elf just so I could stare at her. Not to mention she crits more damage then any other freaking class. OMG *love*
Anyway, the idea of a male/female difference in stats is retarded becuase then you'll play for stats and have an over-abundance of 1 gender/class in the game making it unbalanced. Harder to play a group game that way. Granted I know Diablo is a solo/group game, but everything is more fun in a group.
Can you please list those forums you have been to? I've never seen a forum that doesn't prosecute double/triple posting.
Prosecute? Being a bit liberal with your wording, aren't you? I couldn't remember all the forums I've posted to if I tried, I've been doing it for fifteen years. The longest times I've spent were on bbs.fuckedcompany.com (shut down in 2006, spent six years there) and EQLive (approximately four years, though I had an active account the better part of five).

lol agree, who said stats should be different? that is unbelievably ridiculous. and for all the reasons listed above. though there are "skills/stats" that could be a factor in choosing a female char. *cough*freegifts*cough*
Women with huge breasts + skillful archers = medically impossible.
