those are the claws/blades attached to her hands, not katanas.

Haha well obviously. I said at her side.

Obviously she's not at all very Asian anymore, but perhaps they were considering Asian influences at one point. Not that it matters.

Yes, I dare say it does.

Wuld prove quite interesting to see how many other females turn up using the names of other greek goddesses and heoines and other famous ladies.

    Athena, Hera, Vespa, Atalanta, Helen.

Come to think of it, how many have done a similar thing with male characters from greek myths and legends?

Then we could have a whole pantheon of gods and goddesses running around! ^_^ Greek myths are shweet. (As well as Egyptian, Roman, Celtic, ect...)

Every time I see a thread like this, I'm reminded of the old Dead Alewives sketch.

"Okay, but if there's any girls there, I wanna DO them!"

    Lol. That was great.

It's pretty obvious that most people male or female will inevatbly try both of them.

The real question is which one are you going to try out first O.o

(I voted Female IRL and in the game)

Having two older brothers who liked Diablo, D2, and LoD, I usually ended up picking the characters they didn't, and they happened to be the girls. I think I'm just used to it by now. Plus, I haven't played WoW or other similar games too much, so I'm not really used to having much of a choice. Perhaps I'll make a male or two, but I'll probably start off with a female.

This would be pretty cool actually. If there were something like the Assasin homelands up in the mountains with monestaries and stuff. (Sort of like the Shaolin Monks or something).

I wonder if the Assassin wasn't first designed with Asian influences in mind? I do recall seeing artwork of one with katanas at her side in the strategy guide, I wonder if I can find a link to it online....

    http://www.geocities.com/diabloexp2/assassin.jpg
    There we go.

Also, as LinkX pointed out, the 'sin is fairly similar to the ninja... and she has black hair, but that doesn't neccessarily mean anything, heh.

Perhaps this time there will be an Asian inspired class. There could be a new variation on the Assassin (not that I'm counting on it). I hope it is a monk, though, instead of a samurai. Don't get me wrong, samurai are frikkin sweet, but a bit overused in my opinion.

Edit: Well, come to think of it, monks kind of are too. Well, I guess I just prefer them. Haha sorry.

Well, at least we still have signatures (for anyone who wants to put a picture there), though I wouldn't mind an avatar myself.

    Nattenshi
    Purplecoffeedot
    Tangled
    Killinglilthingys
    Thasador's wife

That's eleven. I think I am maybe missing one.

Guess we can add Artemis to the list now. Kudos on the name. Fits well with Aphrodite.

Heh thanks, sure does. I suppose it would be redundant to say where I got the inspiration :)

I for one really like the assassin, but I can definitely understand how other people wouldn't. She seems physically weak, but I really like her skills. The martial arts helps make up for the physical disability, especially with traps and a shadow warrior/master who can essentially double all that. Also, Fade helps a lot, as well as Cloak of Shadows. I could go on, but I think you get the idea :)

Scared being near a forum? More like, annoyed. "oooh, you're a girl? You're lying. Girls don't play StarCraft..." (US East Broodwar USA channel)

Haha. Reminds me of when I was less than 10 years old playing games with guys over twice my age. They would freeeak oouuut.

(My older brothers started me on gaming at a young age. :P)

Funny how I've been the one talking about how the amazon's breasts from D2 aren't very realistic, but it's her you chose to agree with. lol

    Cheers,
SmashBoy (thinks windbreakers are some kinda clever fart joke)

Please stop being petty. It's not like I ever disagreed with that point. It's "her" I "chose to agree with" because she has a valid point backed up by a good arguement. I'm getting tired of having to repeat myself over and over to get you to understand my point of view, but it's obvious you would rather spam the boards with thoughtless remarks. (However, I am proud of you for at least cutting down on your double and triple posting.)

 Ooookay, so you're calling me a man because according to you no girl would be caught dead on a forum?

I don't remember anyone in Blizzard lore mentioning anything like this:

"In the world of Sanctuary, the female breasts of the Amazon warriors have the unique quality of being extremely light in order to maintain their attractive power while permitting the skillful use of ranged weaponry."

I don't mind fantasy but... I want it refined. Explained. Orderly. I want a different world, not an illogical world where everyone just says "OK we have rocks flying around in here". That's the whole difference between good fantasy and kid fantasy.

    Totally agreed.

And many women do, I've met quite a number of them.

I'm just going to agree to disagree at this point, because you continue to be dishonest with your representation of my views. You can claim it is being "defensive" all you like, but when you aggressively attack a position I never actually took, then what's the point in talking to you? You fail to take responsibility for claiming I said things which I clearly never have, such as "playboy bunnies" or "super skinny waists", or that I even remotely suggested women must play nearly or completely naked women in video games in order to feel good about their own bodies.

    Cheers.

I never claimed you said women should have super skinny waists or huge boobs, ok? I was making a different point, which may enlighten you should you choose to reread that post.

What I was saying was that you were under the belief that women liked seeing other sexy women in their computer games. For the love of God, I've already quoted you saying that 3 times, don't make me do it again. I never claimed that you said "playboy bunnies", I used the term to show the ridiculousness of your position and how I didn't agree, ok? Do you understand where I'm coming from?

I don't know where in the world you got that I suggested women have to play a video game to feel sexy or strong. You are really reaching with this entire post, here. Many players, including women, like to immerse themselves in their games and enjoy playing characters that are not only powerful, but interesting, deep and attractive.

    Super skinny waist.
    Huge boobs.
    Playboy bunnies.
I'm sorry, where exactly were any of these things mentioned by me? Hell, even hinted at?

I feel like I'm wasting my time because you aren't being honest with the expression of your viewpoints OR the representation of mine or what I've said. If you would like to continue this debate in an honest, reasonable way, I'm all for it. I simply have no reason to continue to respond to arguments that are blown so ridiculously out of proportion.

    Cheers

    Oh, please.

    (3) There are a great number of women who enjoy having sexy female characters to look at, either (a) for bragging rights, (b) to feel powerful and sexy themselves while immersing themselves in the game or (c) because quite a large portion of the female population actually has a sexual attraction TO other women and enjoy looking at them the same way boys/men do.

OK, for the THIRD TIME, I am quoting the above. I want to follow me carefully, SmashBoy, lest someone else who doesn't totally agree with your POV be dismissed as being totally dishonest. I want you to read where it says "to feel powerful and sexy themselves while immersing themselves in the game". Can you read that? That is where you suggested a reason that women liked to have such "sexy female characters to look at", and the simple untruth of it is what I'm trying to get across to you. I have not been trying to accuse you of anything, so please, stop getting all defensive.

Only the most insecure people can possibly look at an art depiction and base their own self-worth from it.

You seem to be contradicting yourself. Aren't people who feel powerful and sexy when they "look at an art depiction" basing their own self-worth from it?

    Quote from "SmashBoy" »
I realize that you are saying you are a female gamer, and I understand your opinion, but don't pretend that your opinion speaks for the entire gender anymore than any other.

I never said that I speak for all women, I just think that your suggestion that women want to see a bunch of playboy bunnies running around in Hell is a bit off the mark, because I for one am not attracted to other women. I also think that there are better ways to feel powerful & sexy than sitting at home and killing demons in a computer game.

If a super skinny waist and super huge boobs are the average male's idea of an attractive woman, then obviously women who aren't built like that are going to be a bit put off, don't you think? Why else would so many women be so concerned about their appearances? (Ok, not ALL women are too concerned, and good for them, but I'm sure you cannot deny the tendency.)

I'm probably getting off topic though, as this is a more general observation rather than one corresponding merely to Diablo heroines. I just want the females in the D3 classes to look realistic as far as the game goes... powerful and respectable warriors, not just a bunch of playboy bunnies out for a good time.

Yes, but now we are living and dealing with a different world. Gaming isn't a boys-only club anymore, more and more women and girls are playing games these days.

It's not a one-way street. You can't have scantily clad women unless you offer scantily clad men, as well, or it's sexist. There is a time and place for dressing scantily, middle of a city in a jungle where the humidity is likely 120f? I'd be butt-ass naked as well. But slashing bad guys on a battlefield? You bet I'd be covered in the best protection I could get.

Developers, and consumers, just need to grow up.

Agreed! If we had a bunch of women designed entirely around sex appeal, well hell, I want the men to look hot too! But I think we can all agree that that wouldn't fit the game at all. To me, this game is about kickin some demon butt, not prancing around in your underpants. I mean, the Spartans in 300 all looked wonderful, but seriously? I wouldn't want anyone to go into battle with nothing but their underpants on. That's just silly.

But alas, us women folk are still outnumbered in the gaming industry, so we're probably going to have to submit to the wishes of all you boys

    EDIT:

Woah there. You have many valid points in your arguement, but still.... I don't know where you get your information from but let the ladies speak for themselves. In fact, looking at hot women tends to have the OPPOSITE effect and make us feel crappier about our own self images. This definately applies to a vast majority of the women I know.
