I believe that Blizzard could learn about world instancing from Guild Wars. I think that the "outpost" mentality worked great for them, and would work even better here if tweaked.
I definitely loved the Guild Wars outpost system. For those of u that arent familiar with world instancing, its when a town or outpost is filled with everybody who happens to be in that particular location, but when u leave the town/outpost, you get a world that is entirely ur own and ur party members. This could potentially work in Diablo.
However, I think that we should have D3 multiplayer like the original D2 multiplayer, with maybe a slightly increased player cap per game.
I want the classic way but I also want the ability to chase someone throughout the land and kill them, but since that probably won't be allowed without it being accepted by the host id actually rather have open world make things easier for pvp and questing. Just make it so its kinda like GW but more meshed together.
as much as i like the open world of the MMORPGs i dont think they'd suit a Diablo game in its current form. Every class can solo the game, that would make it impossible to gain levels or do your quests right.
i think there should be a pvp world. with 2 sides...... mabye something like the size of act 1 where ppl can walk around and do a couple quests. but then if you see somone from the opposing side you are automatically hostiled and can fight or run.....slightly better drops here then in a regular game.
player cap should be 10-20

DIABLO = DEVIL its not supposed to be a nice game autostats are rediclous lack of pots is not welcome if it aint broke dont fix it! (diablo2)
I would prefer the same system, I would rather the ability to be able to jump in and out of games quickly rather then a open world akin to a mmorpg where everyone is in the same world and your ability to move around by your own merits is limited cause of the structure adapted to the game.
Things like mythos and hellgate london were nice hub systems but they get very annoying specially when your trying to find people that are doing the same thing as you are with hundreds of people spamming the channels, its more hassle then its worth.
Why does everytime anything similar to wow seem to be a possibility in D3 people freak out and talk about they dont wanna play wow?....there no raids.....theres no boring autoattacking grinds....its fast paced hack and slash...
Yep, until someone suggest one of the things you just said, then i'm sure you ask the same question toward the people responding in the same way (again) but with other things. amirite?
Yes I will...I think....I dont know what your trying to say...sorry im really tired
i think that the 8 player maximum adds to the isolation feel of the game and overall adds to the atmosphere and helps with the feel of the game. i definitely prefer that over (for diablo anyways) the WoW style with heaps of people running around
hmm. the only way that i could see this working is if dungeons and wildernesses were separated from the towns, because if a party comes through and kills everything in a dungeon, and another party comes in, there won't be any monsters to kill.
i like open world for the social aspects, not for the gameplay aspects. I like room-based for the gameplay, but it limits the social elements.
it would be nice to have the town/city areas as open, and the rest as closed (so that you will basically be taken into a "room" alone with your party from there)
I voted for rooms but i also think that you should be able to have like 15 players in a room and more for Guild Masters/Clan Leaders like up to the 75 but that is only for like guild meetings or some thing
I think more people would be funner but that the land is going to have to be really big

The poll indicates that community preference is for small closed games. An analogue of LAN in fact. We know that D3 will not be LAN capable and in light of this poll there seems to be little reason why...Unless of course Blizzard see a commercial advantage in online multiplayer....
Hmmmm...I wonder what that might be??
Remember, the folks at Blizzard are not stupid, nor are they playing mind games. They are running a business. With a bottom line.
The absence of LAN will not prevent the game being pirated. Even the best validation systems can be circumvented - ask the good people over at Ascaron - so I doubt that is the reason for the absence of LAN capability.
If D3 were to be LAN capable there would be no compulsion to choose LAN instead of online play, it would simply be another option as in D2 but as an option it would be available, and many people would use it. If LAN is not an option then the only way into a multiplayer game is through whatever system Blizzard sets up.
The conclusion is obvious and that is that Blizzard wants control of all gaming other than single player. The 'why' is obvious - there is the scent of money!
I am a vary open type of person to closed things lol

They could easily use the best of both worlds if they adopted the guild wars style, they made it so when you ventured out of town, you got your own private copy of the map, without anyone else present unless you invited them into your party beforehand. Sure, it would be copying and pasting froma different game, but it would satisfy the wants of the people who want the WoW feel, and the people who want classic D2.

All we need to do now is find out the 'how'!
Let the flames begin.
I would choose open world if i wanted to just talk to people and trade, that sort of thing
I would choose the classic D2 version if I wanted to just play the game (by myself or with some friends)
