NO BODY IS REALLY COMPLAINING ABOUT THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE GAME!!!
WE ARE COMPLAINING THAT THE TEXTURES LOOK WoWISH AND LOOKS VERY DULL AND WASHED.
Imagine if Gears of War had washed, dull, WoW and flat textures. The game would look horrible. Gears of War is pretty bright but has the dark side of because of the textures.
Diablo was the game that got me into PC gaming. D2 is my favorite game ever. I was blown away by what I have seen so far from D3 and am sure Blizz will deliver the best game yet.
I love the Art direction of D3 as it is and as some have said before, if everything was dark and gray from the beginning, then there is nowhere to go when you get deep into the game.
Thank you Blizz for keeping Diablo alive, you have made a fan extremely happy.
I could use darker dungeons, but the outdoor is fine IMO. Plus, it's still very possible that the dungeon seen in the gameplay demo is simply a lame early one, and that others are darker and creepier. This was certainly the case in D2, comparing say, some of the act 1 dungeons and the durance of hate.
Voting that it's fine for now, but should other parts of the game not be a little more gory and dark then I would say it needs some more of that stuff.
Why not have graphic options in game to switch betwen this more colorfull and more dark theme? This would be the best sollution cuz everyone would be happy this way.
I think that items graphics need improvents. In d2 items looked more gothic and were fitting atmosphere. Here we have axes that look almost same (i mean images). Other items looks also too much cartoonish. Item images should be bigger and inventory tetris should be restored
I really, really hope that you were joking about tetris inventory. That system was horrible.
If you look carefully, that's what makes most of the WoW-look.
I'm almost sure this decision was taken by Blizzard to make everything run super fast on low-end PCs, but I really would have loved to see the graphics from D2 taken to real 3D, current graphic hardware really can pull it off.
I don't think a diffuse or emissive-only shader is fast enough compared to a simple diffuse/normal map shader with a single light interaction to have all of us pay the price.
Just look how UE3 dynamic lighting works on characters. They don't have to make a mesh to interact with X lights, they just take the overall lighting around a character and approximates it to a single directional light + skylight. It's very cheap rendering and much more realistic than an emissive only material.
I also quote UE3 again (and also Valve's Source engine) as other good examples of how also making the textures in the static environment to interact with multiple lights in a precomputed way.
Of course Blizzard programmers are light-years from me, the issue is the decision they took, and how I think it's not worth it except if you want the game to run on computers with really really old graphic cards. (Who can't play HL2 or TeamFortress2 nowadays?).

Besides the caps, I sort of agree with you here. The textures seem dated. I understand they want to appeal to a broad range of PC gamers... but the MAX setting should look up to date. The gameplay trailer looks like it should be...maybe medium settings.
Either way I am going to play the shit out of this game. But better textures/some spooky areas will be a plus.
~ From what we've seen so far, I gotta say I like how it is right now. I personally don't think every part of Diablo needs to be gothic and dark, but it should have variances depending where you are. Lighting changes your mood and a game with the same mood throughout will only dull up that mood in a quick hurry. Yes, there should be areas where you feel totally creped out, and the darkness overtakes you quite a bit, but not the whole game. So again in general from the areas we've seen... I think they've already done a great job, but they should listen to those people who want the gothic look, and implement that in appropriate areas... i.e. Diablo’s lair should probably bring you a little bit closer to pissing your pants than a graveyard.
i dont like the cartoony style of the textures of the game, it needs a lot more work, the monastery in d2 looked pretty good, i suggest the Diablo 3 team to start playing diablo 2 LOD for a while so they can LEARN TO RESPECT WHAT DIABLO FRANCHISE IS!!
oversized armors looks baby diablo style, it sucks. i dont wanna play that kind of game from blizzard, im down
After watching the gameplay trailer numerous times, I have to say that I think the game looks great. Look at the change from the first to the second game, they added quite a bit more color to the second and its a great game. I've played Diablo and am still playing Diablo 2 and I think that if a game can keep that many people entertained for the better part of 7 years, then Blizzard must know what they are doing. I have all the faith in the world that Diablo 3 will be the game that we all have waited soooo long for.

I just want a massive stash...or one i can keep upgrading in storage size (maybe thats where gold can become al little more usefull) and i want my personally inventory limited.
being able to carry 20 armors whereever i go or 20 elixir potions...just sounds unbalanced, ridiculously unrealistic and unappealing.
Plus i want to see the details in the armors. I want the image/picture of the armor in my inventory to be a lot bigger in comparison to my potions/keys or whatnot.
I don't have any problem with the art and graphics; although, I do agree that the light radius should be used (although, not as tight as D2) for night time and inside areas, and I really dislike the inventory screen. That is not a Diablo inventory screen and I much prefer the previous game's inventory style.
If they re-do the art Diablo 3 won't come out this decade. What's plausible is that they work on textures, shadows, and lighting to suit the Diablo mood. Take what they have now and improve it, not scrap it.

Keep in mind that it was Blizzard North that made the previous games. Most if not all of the people working on D3 did not touch d1 or d2.
personally i like it how it is. The gore level is as it should be, the graphics are completely in 3D and the camera view remained, weapon design is more than decent and the gameplay looked very fast paced (that was the one thing i was worried about with the transition form 2D to 3D).

2) Light radius
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
Otherwise it's great, imo. Also, this forum needs more smileys... didn't find one that suited the above sentence ¬¬

*cringe*
It looks like a 1995 N64 game...
