If they re-do the art Diablo 3 won't come out this decade. What's plausible is that they work on textures, shadows, and lighting to suit the Diablo mood. Take what they have now and improve it, not scrap it.
Gold always had value in Diablo 2 and 1 single player.
Stores sold good stuff on both games, but when the economy got to the point where you could get uniques for gems on multiplayer... well gold wasn't so valuable anymore.
I can't say for sure, because I destroyed my Diablo 2 and LoD CD's, but when the Ladder resets gold is valuable once again since the market isn't flooded with uniques and dupewords.
the stupid ass iraqi bumba rumba humba music during the whole teaser. I understand why they chose that but for the whole damn vid? and what choice of songs to pick, only the most ear bleeding song. Ive heard more soothing Jihad music during a beheading video.
FUCK YEAH man. Wtf they think they're doing huh? Mother fucking cultures and shit... please... how bout some fucking ROOF IS ON FIRE FROM THE FUCKING METEOR BURNING THE SHIT OUT OF DEM FUCKING A-RABS MAN WHAT
Staggering. We all wait quite literally years for this game to be announced, and when it finally does, the overwhelming whinging about graphics defies belief. A Blizzard developer could be forgiven for wanting to throw in the towel right now, since it seems that nothing would ever be good enough? I imagine the majority of fans have watched the 20 min gameplay video, and yet so little praise for what we've seen? Such a shame that so many would choose to bitch and moan to such an extent that it overshadows what promises to be a great game.
I, clearly a minority, was fully and completely satisifed by what we've been shown. The game looks absolutely true to what's gone before, whilst innovating and adding finesse in all the right places. I completely disagree with the criticisms of too much colour, or that the graphics are cartoony. Guess what? You want it darker or with less colour? You'll find a handy set of buttons on your monitor, to twiddle your brightness/contrast/saturation to your heart's content. As for "cartoony", I genuinely have no idea what people are referring to. Watching the gameplay video, there's nothing of the sort, and I thought it was a bad joke when I first read comments implying so.
Aside from the fact that I think D3 currently looks great, have people completely forgotten what the long history of video games has taught us? i.e. gameplay is key. Without it, you have nothing. Games that endure over time, do so on playability alone. Tetris being a prime example. So why not actually have a little faith in a company that has got it so exceptionally right in the past, that they'll do so again.
Oh and lastly, to those that wish to bleat on about it being "my game" or "our game", please grow up. If you really can't let it go that you think you know better than an incredibly talented team of developers, do everyone a favour and either put your money where your mouth is and do it better yourself, or shut up and exercise your right to simply not buy the game if the graphics are such a big deal to you that they'll ruin your enjoyment.
p.s. This isn't directed at everyone, and critiquing is all well and good, and perfectly healthy. This is more for the benefit of the never-happy, always-know-better fanboys who will forever wish for a game that's completely new and exciting in every way, and yet magically exactly the same as what went before. Get a grip.
We praised the gameplay, it plays like Diablo and more.
According to some people, when the Starcraft fans complained of the looks, Blizzard didn't throw in the towel, they tweaked Starcraft 2's looks. (I don't know if this is true or not)
Changing the brightness on your monitor doesn't add polygons to character models or enviroment, and it doesn't add detail to bland textures.
We're not talking gameplay. No one in this thread even mentioned gameplay but you and other people who keep telling the fans to suck it up graphics wise. This thread was created to discuss graphics, not gameplay.
There's a difference between a fan and fanboy. A fanboy will buy dung on a platter if Blizzard carved "Diablo 3" on the dung. A fan knows what made Diablo, Diablo. Diablo was the gameplay, which is there, but it was also the looks, which we're discussing in this here trhead.
It's too late for them to back track from the blocky art style of Warcraft. Hopefully they'll at least focus on lighting and texture filtering now that we're speaking up.
To those people that keep saying we shouldn't formulate opinions: Apathy is not good. Ideas, opinions, suggestions, questions, are good.
Patriot Act, Guantanamo Bay, no net neutrality laws in place yet, all this exists because of apathy.
Bottom texture reminds me of The Chaos Sanctuary, while the top reminds me of Warcraft. Top is current, bottom is the filtered one found on the german site.

If Blizzard can do the same for Diablo 3 and work on the lighting and shadows, I can forgive them for the blocky models and geometry.

A lot of bright colors and Dawn of War 2 looks a lot more moody than Diablo 3.

What if you take the same texture from the same game?

I think all they have to do is work on the textures. The graphics are fine, but the textures are bland and nothing like Diablo.
The textures for Diablo 2 seem more rich than Diablo 3's...
