Agreed, certain things should be stackable like potions, but other things shouldn't. So, where is the option for both? Kind of a shitty poll when it has no medium, no offense.
Yea D2's bags are what made it challenging. We obviously aren't D2 fans cuz we don't like the bag system. How blasphemous.
Correction. The inventory system did not make it challenging... just far more annoying. Having to make constant runs back to town to either sell or stash your inventory is not fun.
The inventory is one of the things I disliked about D2 as well. Thank god for mods that increased the size of the grid about 2 times. I have to say that I don't really care about a 1 slot per item inventory cause its a god damn inventory. I did not buy D2 because of the damn inventory system and I could give a shit less if its gone or not. The inventory did not make Diablo.
I could go either way, maybe.. Tetris is cool because it gives that realistic feel. People in WoW always poke fun at the fact that you walk around with tons of armor, quest items, a horse and a gryphon in your backpack with no problem. The tetris system also allows you to see the nice weapon artwork. Obviously the flaw behind this is that your inventory fills up. Fast. Really fast. That is why the 1x1 system is good, too. You can fit a ton of gear into your bags so you aren't constantly running back and forth between the fights and vendors/stash. That seemed to slow the action down a lot.. and Blizzard made it clear that they want to keep the action quickly pased..
I think to show artwork they could have used a list system. But despite the fact that the list and slot systems are identical people would revolt... *sigh*
Please stop making biased polls. Since when did Oblivion, Nox, Kult, and other games became MMO's?

Some games that aren't mmo use the 1 slot system, but I don't know of any mmo using tetris.
Well, first of all, the fact that a bardiche takes as much space as a ring is completely absurd, it just doesn't make sense at all
Secondly, the tetris system has been there since the start, sure it's a part of Diablo and all that, I don't say that if you change it, it won't be Diablo anymore, I just say that it's a great inventory system, it worked very good for both games, heck, some games even copied that system because it was so good (RE4 for one)
As for the stacking, i agree for the idea of tomes, like you could have a potion rack or something that you'd pack some pots in, but no way to just "stack them away"
Also, for people who say that "it's annoying to always go back to town" well, why not just make the inventory larger? or add supplementary packs like the cube but only for storing stuff? or the items smaller, i don't think it's a flaw in the inventory, i think the flaw is that monsters drop billions of items all the time, which is something i didn't like about D2, remember in Diablo when an enemy would drop a magical item you'd be like "holy shit" but no, in D2 you kill a boss and there are like tons of random items that drop, and that's where the problem is...
Remember in Diablo, you were a loner adventurer going down to the depths of hell itself, risking your life to save the world, items weren't the matter, they were only tools you'd use to kill demons, or avoid being killed, you'd pick what you can, sell some valuables, and leave the rest on the ground, you were a brave hero that has for only mission to slay the devil, not some greedy guy that'd pick up everything he sees to make profit on it in order to buy more valuable stuff to make even more profit... your goal was to kill demons, not to collect the rarest and most valuable items in the game, you were a survivor, not a dealer, you were a hero, not a merchant, that's what killed D2 for me, and that's why i think the 1item slot inventory would just make things even worse
Well, first of all, the fact that a bardiche takes as much space as a ring is completely absurd, it just doesn't make sense at all
Carrying 4 full plates makes perfect sense...

i don't think it's a flaw in the inventory,
The problem with tetris inventory is that you spend additional time trying to fit things into the inventory. I want to play Diablo, not tetris.

I'd agree with that. DII kinda lowered items and made them less interesting.

I picked up everything... Not really for profit more like just because it's a thing I have. See every corner, open every chest, kill every monster, get every item. And I don't see what you are getting at here. I mean Diablo and Diablo II were not different in the inventory system, it seems YOU just played them differently.

The inventory system has nothing, nothing to do with what you said.
I honestly can't see the real reason why people would complain about wanting to move forward, it's been a long long time since d2 was released and since then the industry has made LEAPS and BOUNDS in interface. Playing tetris with your inventory might be fun for some who remember d2 through nostalgia glasses, I loved d2 and played it more than I'm willing to admit but this thread shows that people just want d2 again. D2 had it's flaws, the top top top game it was, has flaws.. No game is perfect.
Go ahead and call me not a true diablo fan for not selling my soul for the cluttered inventory idea. Come up with a constructive game stand point of view on why the tetris inventory is superior over a stream-lined more user friendly, less pain system.
You say it won't be the same game. Spot on, it's called DIABLO THREE, not DIABLO TWO you are actually proving the point on why people want innovation. IT IS A NEW GAME! It will have new idea's and new features. Maybe it was your idea of a fun time playing tetris, but for more than you'd like to admit it was a chore. I'd rather be out there killing more bosses for items rather than playing tetris over my 2-3 accounts full of uniques. You may not like it, but it's not changing back for a myriad of ways.
I like how in Diablo 2 the items were more realistic.
New inventory items are just painted on.
And the space matters too. One gem is not the same as a poleaxe.

i think that the 1 item per slot system is a good idea. What they need to put in if they do this though is a burden system, like in Asheron's Call (If you carry too many items, you are slower, and some weapons/ items weigh more.)

Diablo isn't that kind of game. It's an action-RPG. Characters shouldn't go slower if they're holding more items...
Tetris but allow to but more carry space through buying it, like d2 has buying more bank/chest space. Plus it would make gold actually worth having besides repairs.

I certainly do not want inventory Tetris all over again. It was tedious, boring and inefficient. At the same time I wouldn't like an exact WoW clone system, I know a great deal of people are whining that the Diablo III will become to similar to WoW, I think what they fail to understand is that the developers of Diablo III are implementing featured that are known to work well, not trying to emulate WoW. A good feature in WoW will probabaly be featured in Diablo III, and most of ther similar games coming out after it.

why some time ago? why disfunctional? it's not disfunctional, it works perfectly, what's disfunctional is when every item takes the same amount of space

if for you Diablo is just click the attack button, then why don't you play something else? part of the game is to manage your inventory, to organise your set-up, to get prepared for the battle, do you think warriors just wake up and go randomly killing stuff? no they get prepared before, and then go to the battlefield, that's what Diablo is

no, do you remember spending time doing the same thing over and over just to get a specific rare or unique or whatever item you'd look for in Diablo? i sure don't, no such things as Baal runs or whatever in Diablo, nobody ever said something like "let's go kill this because it drops a set of items" in Diablo

yes it does, because it makes survival into just greedyness, instead of "pick what you can" it becomes, "pick what you want" since every item just takes the same space, it doesn't matter anymore what's the item in question
I NEVER had any issues distinguishing items in Nox and the icons it has are tiny... I don't need the Tetris system to distinguish anything. And it's not like you are rushed when observing inventory in Diablo.
