The monk was in Hellfire. Hellfire is Sierra's game, not Blizzard's.
Blizzard could make a very cool/fun monk class.

I've also played a mod that has a Paladin posing as a monk with the Assassin's mind skills and wields a staff. It is pretty good. I'd definitely like some sort of monk class in DIII.
I looked up this Hellfire Monk class and honestly I don't think this is the same kind of monk I was thinking of...

Monks of the Brotherhood of the Bough are a rare sight. It is said that they come from a desolate wilderness, where their people were forced to flee after being conquered by an invading horde. Because of their great defeat, these people vowed to master the arts of combat. Lacking resources such as iron, they learned to use their bare hands and simple wooden staves as deadly weapons, and do not depend on metal armor to provide protection in battle. Instead, they rely upon speed and concentration. In their harsh native clime, they have been forced to find food and other essentials in the most unlikely of places. Over time, this careful searching has honed their visual perception to an almost supernatural level.
The monk is a unique character, with stats unlike any other. Extrememly skilled in hand-to-hand combat, he can hit multiple enemies with a staff. The monk is made to use the staff, and does not use other weapons well. And with his Search skill, he can easily find items that normal players would have a hard time spotting. The monk is weak magically though.
Now, I was thinking that the monk class would be more hand to hand, ie no weapons (excluding the "glove weapons"). Plus it would look more like the picture WhiteGhost gave of the guy with the orange thing on.
And what if he says some Hindi lines between cutscenes.
It'll be cool for me atleast.

SideNote: Invading Horde??? Dun dun dunnnn!!!
Monks often carry a wooden staff, even if their primary weapon is their fists. Most have some sort of head piece that may or may not be made of metal and can be used as a deadly weapon.
If you play as the Hellfire monk, he kicks more often than he uses the staff. He didn't really do much in the way of punching. DnD monks do however.

Maybe something like WoW? If he (Or any class...) isn't using a -big- weapon, it goes on there back? If it's a small weapon it could go on the side. Unless it's the knuckle weapons, then it would be under the gloves.
Maybe have the secondary weapon sheathed with the primary weapon out?
That is kinda how LOD works. you just don't see the secondary weapon in it's "sheath" you press the w key to bring it out though.

That's just a 2D issue, it would require tons of new images to illustrate sheathed weapons so they let that slide. In a 3D version, I am pretty sure we'll see a lot more customization since it is easier.
I played some Monks in NWN, some of them used fists, others used quaterstaffs, and there were some other weapons, I think. Personally, I found the class disadvantaged compared to a full-out fighter or a fighter-blackguard...
I would propose the following general parameters:
moderate damage, but fast attack speed and high probability to hit
serious chance of critical hits
extensions of mass attacks
low strength, light armor, light weapons or none at all
high dexterity, good evasiveness, blocking without a shield
fast hit recovery, block recovery, faster movement, transparent movement
natural magical resistance
hit forgiveness
Also, I don't think there is a class in D2 that has the ability to cause Open Wounds, or did I miss one?

But you don't get the benefits from the secondary wepon.
Err, it's sheathed, why would you get its benefits?

Barbarian using an axe I think. It might be his class bonus. Not sure, I know he gets a speed bonus. Same for the Druid if he uses Mauls.

I use axes with barb all the time I don't remember Open Wounds, and I know what they look like. Unless it's disabled in SP and that would be very strange.
I think it could be quite a skill for a monk, some percentage of open wounds.
Well, I played a sword Amazon and found a scimitar that caused 30% open wounds and I went through Act 1, 2, and 3 with it because of that. Then I quit.
And that was my point, it's not a skill, so if you made it a skill it wouldn't be a duplicate of others.

Well I got the idea from WoW and on WoW you get the benefits. So yea. o.O
Lol. Thats what I said...I think... But yea...now I'm confused...
