Player created maps are a great thing to extend the life of a game. WC3 has dota, which is probably over half the players on there now. Halo 3 even has a mad editor... Players should be able to make custom maps and scenarios, but in customs there shouldn't be item drops except for health globes (if playing with your ladder character). Or it should have to be a dota type game where you pick a char at the beginning and then at the end he poofs.
I dont see your point, except that nothing carries on from game to game except a +1 in the wins or losses column. Im suggesting for custom games to work in Diablo 3, they need to make it so nothing can carry over from a custom game to a real Blizzard created map. No exp gained in custom, no items gained through custom. The only point would be to create fun and challenging scenarios to stretch the limits of everything your character is capable of.
Completly agree, it would be great if modding tools were included. I doubt it would be released as such because it would require more work from the developers but it would be a huge boon in an expansion along the line.
If they don't make mod tools then they should at least make it easily moddable. One of the most fun aspect in Fate is modding. Even a complete noob can do it because it's all in txt files.
my god people on these forums argue against point that have already been explained. I will try again though.
If you want a mod in your diablo 3, YOU WILL HAVE TO STAY AWAY FROM B.net.
PLay with friends over TCP IP, singleplayer, lan-cable, or perhaps a special version of B.net where mods are allowed. Mods are considered cheats by the game-companies. Not frowned upon, but upsetting the balance anyways.
It will NOT hurt trade, as your regular character will never meet any character that has played a mod.
It will NOT need a character that works with just that mod.
It will NOT be without point.
My god people. start reading the post before you anwsere.
For the record, I agree with the poster. perhaps not at release, but soon after, if they have not already thought of this. I love these rare to find mods where people create so much lore that it is incredible. Also, I like mods that changes the gameplay radically, like allowing faster cast for sorcs.
Once again, if you did not get what the poster was talking about, read it again before posting.

Perhaps the implausibility of its own existence makes the skeleton think it hilarious to hide in a barrel, cackling intermittently for some three hundred years until a victim happens by?
Globes of health. That float. Riiight
... and no one thought twice about chugging something that had been stuffed into a poisonous mummy for the last thousand years. This magical orb shit is going to ruin my sense of immersion big time.
I will put my agreement for wanting some modding tools. I would love to see Blizzard actually openly embrace modders rather than treating them like red-headed step children for wanting to contribute to the game.
I am gonna be annoyed if a mod closes this for "dupe" thread again. yeah a dupe of an ancient thread long forgotten, why not lock it and let the newer ones go.
Anyhow, I am hoping there will be some modding tools, would be great to recreate the original Diablo or replace some monsters, models or textures here and there.
Yeah mods sound good, and i played the mod from the first poster.. i really liked it and so did my friends. so yes make a world editor tool for the game so we can make mods. Of course you could make it so people can't join mod games on b.net or it asks the player before hand if they want to join and if doing so will restrict there character from ever joining an official game in future cos there item tree and skills don't match the originals. But even so would encourage more people to make more characters for each mod out there, i know i would. 1 for official, and many for each mod type. thus keeping me encouraged in the game. and not making me loose interest like i did with Diablo 2.
Plus the original makes of the game could get new ideas from peoples mods for the next diablo 4 game.. well its why most other game developers make mod tools for.. to take ideas and use them as there own.
So i do say bring on the mod tools for people to improve or fashion there perspective of what diablo 3 should be.
Well what Blizzard is willing to do really depends on the modding community... They did boost modding capabilities quite a bit when they released 1.10 way back when. So they recognize it as an important feature for the game. But how far they're willing to go with modding for Diablo 3 I think depends on how much interest we show... Blizzard can do it and they can do it well if they set out to do it!
/disagree with OP. this could be exploited, one way or another. I'm afraid people tend waste more time finding ways to cheat to level than if they actually level themselves, and they will find something. Anything that allows mods will turn into oblivion: fun for a few days but hollow and bland unmodded. And while the game population won't SUFFER from a world editor, the numbers will be reduced noticeably, and that's enough.
The bored part of me says that this is a great idea, it really does. But im afraid that the one that wants fair gameplay and a sense of being part of an online community says the serious players will suffer.
A good incentive for creating quality, well-balanced, fair mods, would be the reward of including them as side-quests in the official game.
It would have been nice, if D2, along with the 5 main Acts, had a good size list of mini to large side-quests that were added in a a few of their own updates and by the modding community.
The reward of having your mod included as an officially accepted/implented would make the modding community larger and more useful, since their would be a reason to keep their mods inline with the actual game and not have things such as rooms full of uniques or drops of overpowered items.
If that is the case then how is it Diablo 2 mods were not exploited in the same manner you speak of? D2 mods were very easy to make, and you could easily make a mod like you described within a half hour.
If mods/world editors don't exist... People will just use 3rd party saved game/character editors to twink out their characters skills, levels and items... and there were many of those types of editors available for D2... If people want to cheat, they will cheat. Mods or not. The arguement of exploitable is whether or not mods would be exploited on battle.net and the answer is no, Blizzard would not allow it, or they would keep mod ladders seperate, or only allow mods that they specificly choose to allow on battle.net
Modding and world editing has nothing to do with the subject cheating. Cheaters and modders are not the same thing and cheaters will find a way with or without modding tools or an editor.
My mod was specificly designed for challenge, group play and a merciless atomosphere without town portals
Sadly it doesn't seem likely at this point as Blizzard doesn't seem very entusiastic about the idea or up for the challenge.
How do you know? Did they say something about it?
Anyway I just recently discovered the fascinating world of D2 mods (I think it was because of this thread) and I'm enjoying them very much so I give my full support to the motion of having modding tools and be able to play them on different realms in battle.net.
Also the people who think modding tools could be used for cheating are, in the kindest words possible, a bunch of retards.
It would be cool to have a modding tool. That way fans can create their own non official storyline Act into game. Then open B.net can have an option to allow user made Act, ect.
To tell you the truth, the only reason I want the mod tool is so I can play the Warrior from D1, in D3, lol. If they even allow you to mod that much!
They haven't said no, they just said it would be difficult to create a world editor or official modding tools because of how the game is build and the randomess factor... Not a solid no but not encouraging!
they addressed this at WWI actually and said with the randomized dungeons and the newly designed randomized scripted events that incorporate a lot of the game it would be difficult to make an efficient modding tool for it and they stated it would be a very mod friendly game they didnt state anything about creating one though they were just talking about people making their own tools and such

1.) This isnt WC3, D2 doesnt need to be modded or have an editor
2.) Mods and custom maps would be easily exploitable
3.) Mods will divide the community and thin group play
4.) Diablo maps are randomly generated, we dont need a map editor
5.) Too many crappy mods will be produced
