Ah, this makes me wonder if you can summon more caster types things in this game... like little demon mages. Awww, that'd be so cute. HAH well it'd be kickass too.
Am I the only one that didn't see the weapons leaving light tracers?
that makes us two... watching fights with the 1 handed axes and the 2 handed mace, nothing... only thing i saw was something "like" it that was the cleave animation... weird.

thats what i think as light tracers too... in the gameplay videos i just saw the glow (on the icy weapon) the rest is simply electricity and fire effects that cant even be thought as "glows".
Glad Blizz decided to give the final word about the art direction
And while i fully support the current art direction i think few things could be tweaked ( all simple things ), like the glow effects on the magic weapons, it looks cool but it needs to be slightly toned down, maybe 30% or 40% or something like that ( even as a graphical option for low end machines ).
On a side note, for all those wondering about where the green color is coming from, i think the answer is quite obvious but when talking about colors it is better to use image than use words XD
It is all a mix of colors, yellow light from torches mixed with blue ambient from the vast cave space apparent in the background ( which surely has many vantage points for indirect day light like many caves in real life ) produces green hues that are most visible near the torches and fade out to brown as you go away from them, since the yellow color from the torches is what produces the green ambient.
Oh and shut up about the rabbits already, Act5 in D2 had rabbits, and every other act in D2 had natural life that fits with it ( bats, mice, insects, birds .. etc etc )
Nobody touches the rabbits, they are invincible and can withstand a fire bomb as seen in the demo, if you bad mouth them they will come hunting you, and when they get you, it will look like an accident XD
Also Beware the mighty killer bunny from Monty Python Holy Grail, it would make an awesome boss in D3 ................... just kidding XD

Pssshh, color theory...
I say it's all from the massive triple bean burrito you ate before you enter the cathedral, then you flea bomb it with your methane disrespect from behind.
you know when you die you crap? so all this green stuff is from the dead! anchient dead! im mean look at how may zombies there are, it's all so logical!

It's all in the Color Theroy XD
While I applaud your efforts to explain the green, the fact is that you're using a subtractive method of color mixing, whereas when you're dealing with light, it's additive.

It's time to welcome the other 80% of the color wheel to a Diablo game.
Whoa, giving the Diablo III fanbase the middle finger?
You mean you pestering something odd thousand?
Your paper holder base compared to our few million plus continent base isn't worth shit.
If one million people buy it - do you know what that makes you? 5%
If the same number of D2 sales? 1%
I won't end with a real jackass, bitch ass remark like petitioners usually do.
No coup de grace needed.
Flawless victory.

I think you are assuming everyone who played D2 is aware of D3 and has all signed the petition. That is highly unlikely. It did make the news and got Blizzard's attention enough formally address the issue. I think Blizzard gave us the bird, but if you are happy with the art direction then don't worry about us complainers, we aren't getting our way.
Your lack of basic understanding of how statistics work is appalling.
For me it was the "flawless victory" that ruined it
But in all actuality you can't say that the petition is a true representation of the Diablo fanbase. It is a good amount of people that have a concern about the graphics in a game though.
Over confidence is the rot.

Yeah I saw spell animations but no light tracers.
I always thought this kind of thing was light tracers:

At least that's what we called them when I played WoW.

For me its just easy to say its there and be done with it. I don't care where its coming from, and I don't care that it's there.

A poll would have both sides.
But seeing as they don't plan on changing course now, I guess there is no point in that.
We've had polls. All of them showed that the majority wants at least some kind of change. That wasn't enough, I guess.
