It seems like there are more peolpe getting into this game. I would still like to host a server for all of us on dfans to play together. If you want to let me know and I'll get it started.

I recently purchased the game and it's all cool stuff!
Although the game itself is nice in singleplayer I miss that interaction and feeling of actually contributing to something greater that you get in a multiplayer world. So yes, I'd love to play on a DFans server.
I would recommend this type of system for multiplayer:
Town Leader: The person who organizes things and is really in charge of everything. This person will host the server.
Chief of Architecture: This is the person who plans out the Town Leader's plans and all of the people's ideas. This will include figuring out the coolest designs and organizing people to create this desired object.
Construction Worker: This is a person who will be given all of the resources to build a desired item, whether it be a house, park, or whatever. They work underneath the Chief of Architecture.
Chief of Landscaping: This person will be in charge of making sure everything is looking awesome and the parks look in top form and that the entire town just looks awesome.
Landscaper: The person will work with... dirt. This will be the person who levels stuff out, plants tree and flowers, blows up mountains, fills in holes, etc.
Chief of Civil Layouts: This the person in charge of organizing the town and buildings, whether it be real state, trade, light, etc.
Chief of Mining: This person organizes mining expeditions, which includes harvesting ore, building caves, plugging up lava, etc.
Miners: They mine.
Scientists: These are the people who experiment with red stone, lava, water, monsters, etc.
NOTE: The jobs people get are not restrictive, it's just their title. A Scientist can help mine, etc.
TOWN LAYOUT:
I would recommend having a street with personal homes (built and lighted) which a person gets and is able to expand within their given space. They can save gold (which I think should be currency), ore, and decorate. This would be known as the Living Quarters.
Next you can have the Town Hall overlooking the area. This would be the house of the Town Leader who can decorate it in the most luxurious ways with the most expensive stuff and can make it look bad ass.
Then we can have everything else, which includes the Test Labs, the Mines, the Farms, and the Building Site (which could include long term projects, such as a Church, Pyramid, etc).
I'm intrigued. I was afraid to join any server up to now because its like... always a nobody's place. But a DiabloFan server won't get that many players. Heck, I just noticed that topic now, after all this time.
Well, I still need to buy the game and it would be a lot funner if we waited until multiplayer had monsters in it (or does it already? I didn't read anything new about MineCraft in a while). But we would need at least 20 people to make this idea work.
Yeah, I think waiting passed the Halloween update is a good idea. There's some multiplayer fixes coming with, many are expecting it to have working monsters and health online.
Yeah, there are definitely some key components missing in MP right now that hopefully get fixed in this new patch. I think waiting until then is great idea.
I would like to start a list of interested players to start with this new patch. Right now we have:
ScyberDragon
Irrational
Liquorice
SFJake
Junction3
LinkX
Equinox
I know there are a bunch more people here who play and if we can get at least ten people to start, I think that will be a good name to begin with. Also, I you guys know anybody who plays, feel free to invite them. If they don't have a DFans account, I suggest asking the to make one so we can use this thread to communicate easier.

Are we going to have required numbers in each of the positions? If so, I suggest this kind of format:
Town Leader: 1
Chief of Architecture: 1
Construction Worker: 2
Chief of Landscaping: 1
Landscaper: 1
Chief of Civil Layouts: 1
Chief of Mining: 1
Miners: 3
Scientists: 2
And might I suggest adding an explorer position? They could roam the countryside looking for good places to mine, and could search out the proper caves, marking them with a 32 block high beacon type deal. I say 32 block high instead of 64 block high because, in my opinion, I think think that there should be 4 64 block high beacons around the town to help miners find their way back.
And if nobody agrees with any of that, just pretend I never said anything.
Explorer is a great idea. I don't think we should have any limits or quantities on any positions yet until we know how many people we are going to have playing. We might restructure jobs or duties based on how many people we have.
While waiting for this patch to come, I was messing around with red stone. I now know how to make a combination lock of 3-100 switches which all have to be in the right position to open a door. 100 switches would be ridiculous but the point is the wiring can work no matter how many switches you want. I have tested it up to 9 but I ran our of red stone.
EDIT:
Just went on-line and gave myself some mats. I made one with 15 switches which all had to be in the correct position for the door too open.I am trying to think of a logical way to use this to create a safe house for valuables or at least my own house. The main problem with it is that anyone can just break the door down. Hopefully they add some indestructible doors for griefers.

Nothing you add in terms of game stuff can't be used against you. Unbreakable doors or blocks: Anything a griefer could just build enough of and block other people or their stuff.
The only tool against griefing is good administration. I heard about some mods that limit what people can do as well. What the game needs is just that, people that can't destroy or affect certain things or the blocks built by others, without "clearance".

Just in real life, if somebody wants your shit bad enough, come hell or high water, they will get your shit.
Also, will I have to create a new save with the patch or will the patch apply to an old map?
