I'm wondering if MP will kill co-op. Right now I play co-op most of the time and I enjoy it. I really look forward to monster power 1-4, but I wont be able to do co-op then anymore, since all co-op games are going to be no monster power games.
I've havent tried the PTR. Can I make a MP4 game public? And would anyone be joining it? Or do I have to go to chat and round up a group?
Public game = No MP by default, no ability to change.
Private multiplayer game = MP of game based on setting of game creator. In the event the original game creator leaves, the MP adjusts to the setting of the party leader (i.e. person with crown in portrait).
true for inferno (in EU at 4am-6am, dont know how prime time would look)... I actually create all my games as co-op and usually people join within minutes...
Well, the point is, it makes co-op even more defunct. Now there are almost no open games, now there will be even less because everyone is in his own world.
Have you tried to play a multiplayer game in act 4 inferno or even act 3 inferno?
1. there's next to one one playing
2. the players who are playing are usually awful.
3. No point.
conclusion: Another part of D3 that isnt fun.
I know these are just your opinions but I don't agree with any of them. I play a lot of pub games and Act 3 is always full of players and a lot of them are pretty damn good. I know it's the cool thing to hate on this game but maybe you should move on to something else?
I usually grind alone and whenever I get bored I jump in to a public game. Most of the time my xp/hour will take a big hit, but there's just something about playing with other people, talking and whatnot. Even just comparing your character to other people's characters (even though inspecting people is a damned hassle in D3) is a refreshing change.
With the introduction of monster power I, and pretty much everyone else, will have ZERO incentive to play in pub games. If you can handle MP0 you can handle MP1 and the rewards are MASSIVELY different. And this sucks for me, because pretty much all my friends who ever played D3 quit. I'm the only one left.
God I hope everyone will start using the LFG channel...
No it won't actually destroy co-op. ATM you won't be able to jump into or make public games with MP (but they are looking at ways to make this available) but you can still make co-op games with your friends, and my friends and I already have plans on co-oping MP ery day =D
I think that there will be a decline in public games hosted since most people will be paying pubic to either progress, or have a really laid back game. However with that said you will see more people using general chat to make a PUG so they can take advantage of the new MP system. I'm not sure what MP level I will play, maybe MP1 for Farming and MP3 for Key runs.
Well, the fundamental problem with public games today is that there's no form of gear/skill matchmaking. People who can't even beat the content solo and are playing online to piggyback on their teammates get matched together with people who are easily farming Act 3. Lucky for the new guy, not so fun for the veteran. Why would you play online if it's only going to slow you down and your teammates keep dying?
MP is a solution to this problem - MP0 Inferno is very doable for everybody, and better players will self-rank themselves by playing at a higher MP level. Proper MP-based matchmaking would fix public games, but unfortunately that's not ready for this patch. Instead what we'll see is that MP0 players can still play public games, and they'll be matched together without burdening anyone else, while better geared players will simply have to make due with singleplayer or private games for now(which, for the most part, is already what they were doing).
^What zeyk said + the only people that are complaining seem to be the under geared or piggybackers. All the people that farmed to get their MPL10 gear are naturally going to gravitate towards other people who earned the same type of high end gear. There will still be co-op, you'll just be matched properly in gen chat or with friends. I don't know how that's not fair and why people are QQ'ing.
Now would be a good time to start adding friends as you do runs. I believe it will bring together groups that are more closely matched in ability. As you do runs you will add people who closely match your level and run with them more often at appropriate MP levels. They should just get it over with and add some sort of clan/group function to the game.

Easiest way to inspect a person's equipment is to right click and view profile then choose heroes and then inspect. you can do it anywhere vs if you click on the simple inspect option they have to be near you.
I guess right now people should be adding as many people from public games so that they can get some party groups to play with when 1.05 comes out. otherwise its going to be boring solo runs.
What Co-Op...? I love playing multiplayer, but if you want to make any progress in this game you basically cant. Probably my least favorite thing about D3 is the lack of social play. I might not even care as much about the shitty drops if it made sense for me to play with my friends... But it doesnt.
It will most definitely kill co-op. There's no reason to play MP0 when you can increase difficulty slightly by playing MP1, which in turns sets all mLvl to 63.

Played and finished Inferno pre-1.0.3, Have Paragon level 67 right now, all done exclusively with my brother, I've never played alone other than my Demon Hunter who only has a few hours played after level 60.

How exactly can you not progress in co-op?
Not sure exactly what Brake Failure's point was, but this discussion about MP killing co-op is talking about random matchmaking co-op, not organized multiplayer as is the case with you playing with your brother.

Yeah, that would be me But dying in a group is better than dying alone.

I think the new co-op will be reduced to mp0 even if all people have higher mp settings.
Will be easier for ppl who join pub game imo .
