No, but you had many people telling you that they clicked on the link and it went to his actual Facebook profile, but acted extremely pompous and refused to believe it. That's okay though, I always knew I wasn't lying, despite your insinuations otherwise. It's okay that you were skeptical I guess, this is the Internet after all, but it was kind of frustrating. I liked Jay's post, and think his head is in the right place, even if he did react rather poorly initialy. That's just part of being human and sometimes having a knee jerk emotional response to something versus a well thought out one. The only difference is that now everyone knows about it, in the past it was just your close friends or whoever you happened to be speaking with at the time.
David Brevik hand down. If you have played Diablo 2, you will see how complex the D2 system is, yet everything is balance. We started with 5 different classes and all play with a different style. Every class has it's strength and weakness
You're talking strictly about balance here. I also think each class has it's own style in D3 too.
The problem isn't the game itself, it's that more abilities need to become appealing, 1.0.4 started has started that. D2 had it's share of cookie cutter/OP builds also. Just because a lot of people liked to play off builds doesn't change that.
Also, nothing about D2 was complex, at least no more so than D3.
I will apologize for insinuating anyone was lying but as Downtown pointed out, this IS the internet. Besides that I didn't intend for it to be biased at all, it just honestly seemed more likely to me than someone forgetting facebook was private. I still like my variation better it makes it more interesting if it was some carefully planned troll.
D2 had ladders, pvp and pandemonium events. How about that for complexity? Compared to D3 ofc. Your turn.
Oh yeah ladders, that was so awesome, every now and then you could re-level all your toons from scratch. Such compelling gameplay. And by the way, even if they put ladders in the game it'd probably be 6 months to a year before there was a ladder reset so it'd hardly make a difference now would it? According to blogs they're trying to think of something better this time around. I hope they do.
Uber Diablo was added like 4 years after release as a cheap way of giving people something (anything!) to do at max level without creating any new game assets. The other "pandemonium events" were added later (I forget when). All non-canon of course because it was just levered into the game at the end of its lifecycle purely for gameplay reasons. About the worst excuse for "content" I can think of.

As someone who played D2 for like 5 years or so, this post is fucking hilarious.
That was my thought too.
Diablo 2 was a fantastic game in a thousand different ways. It was my #1 game for several years, and at the time, my favourite game of all time. But one thing it wasn't.. was "balanced".

Yeah who really gives a shit about this topic anymore? I'd equate it with seeing an ad for vaginal cream while you're trying to eat dinner. Whatever gossip queen virgin that started it should probably just change those panties and grow up already. I mean honestly...

But I was wrong, it happens.
This needs to be on our front page.
Nah. I think it's kinda stupid to apologize for what amounts to a modicum of journalistic integrity. Some random dude on the internet saying "I clicked the link, it's the real Jay Wilson" when that action is currently unverifiable is NOT a solid basis for a story.
I commend the news guys around here for not running rumor as fact and requiring a bit more than the promises of those who are out for blood that it's all legit before throwing an article up on the front page. It takes a lot more character to hold off on an iffy story and maintain integrity than it does to just throw anything you come across out on the airways (see: Balloon Boy) so that you can be the first to get the "scoop" regardless of the consequences. Remember, folks, printing false information about someone is libel and very well can result in a lawsuit.
Somehow if David Brevik told Jay Wilson to "fuck off" in a public forum I doubt the people calling for Jay Wilson to be fired would demand that David Brevik be fired, though. It's a story fueled by hatred and complete loss of rationale, nothing more, nothing less.

Agreed. Personally, I did click the link before it was deleted, and I did see that it was the real Jay Wilson. Did I post anything to that effect? Nope. What's the point? I know I'm just some random dude on the internet, I know there's no reason why anyone would believe me any more than some other random dude who said he clicked it and it was a trolling account.
A large part of me wants to rant at Jay Wilson for all that is wrong with D3, instead I'll say I'm glad to hear he is considering a players 8 type patch to allow users to change game play difficulty.
I love D3 normal mode, I have not and will not bother playing nightmare or further because D3 does not scale evenly from normal to nightmare like D2 did so well. I never played Diablo to defeat the highest levels. I played hell mode once in D2 for just Act I, after that I never bothered playing it again because it wasn't fun for me. I could play and defeat D3 in nightmare, but it would be more of a frustration than fun for me, so I'm left with normal mode unless Blizzard fixes how D3's game play scales up.
I really hope they do, because I probably won't play D3 much longer in normal mode.
Players 8 was a great feature in the offline mode, it made leveling an alt through Normal and Nightmare slightly more bearable (seriously, people forget how ridiculously miserably unchallenging D2 was, the fact you could easily faceroll solo through to late Nightmare at least with the monsters set to levels intended for EIGHT PEOPLE is pretty freaking telling). But you couldn't use it on Battlenet which kind of sucked. I used to find open games with as many people in them as possible in other Acts and solo through until they all left LOL. Ah, the "social" aspect of D2...
Some kind of personal difficulty setting could work I guess. Something better than that though
To be honest, the amount of "Apology wasn't necessary" comments, and "hug" comments, and all of this ridiculous stuff about how big of a man Jay is for admitting he's wrong is positively absurd, and it's quite juvenile, the Diablo 3 forums on the main site were loaded down with constant removals and deletes of things that weren't even rule breaking.
Jay Wilson did not write an apology to Brevik, directly, in a sophisticated way. All he did here was post a large damage control reminiscent post about how he's sorry to the community for the things he said. This comes off as Public Relations. At the company I work for, we call this a bait and switch tactic, where we scapegoat the true issue by distracting the audience with other things. Which is exactly what was done here.
The community spreads what you say around, but we are not the ones who need an apology, unless you feel we are all "losers," as the term I heard in High School/Middle School was used. You cannot in one forum say what you said, while in another saying the exact opposite...
"$#@% that loser"
"Dave is awesome"
Is a non-sequitur and if you truly believed Dave is an awesome person, you would not have said what you posted in the first place.Brevik is the man who needs an apology.
To be entirely blunt, a face to face apology. You do not get to hide behind a screen and make such asinine, immature comments to people on the internet who are responsible for the very legacy you created a sequel to.You owe your career at this point, and for the last 5 or 6 years of your life, to Dave Brevik and the people who worked at Blizzard North.
Do not apologize to us. Apologize to Brevik.
And for everyone saying "Who gives a shit," well, your game is suffering because of the incompetence of the game designer. This is just one aspect of his immaturity that proves he was never up to the task.

I hear what you are saying, the thing I think a lot of people (including Blizzard Irvine) seemed to have forgotten was a lot us played Diablo simply because it was just entertaining. The story line, the NPC dialog humor, the eerie feeling of the game, being able to dungeon crawl, and just being the hero was all it took to keep a lot of us happy. I never had an interest at defeating hell mode or ever bothered playing in hardcore mode. Diablo and Diablo2 was highly successful as a stand alone game, I never liked playing it online, too many ass hat griefers in D1 and too many jerks in D2. Blizzard totally lost sight of that fact in D3.

I don't think they lost sight of it, I just think they weren't really aiming it at people in that particular category. The assumption that "If you loved D2, then D3 is for you" is just not a good one. If you're after a 'the same but better' sequel, Torchlight's probably a better place to go (although the mood is a lot different).
