My friend last night in game had his whole MF set removed from his inventory. He thinks it might have been a duped set. Pisser is he bought it on the RMAH. I didnt want to ask how much he paid I know he did petition Blizz. So if they are going to be removing items ingame. What about the poor sod that buys it legit threw their rmah . Is he just sol ? or will blizz replace with legit items ? SO now duping is stealing peoples real money now. So if blizz doesnt give him his items does he file a police report for theft ?
To be fair "I don't need items off the AH" doesn't much add anything constructive to the conversation either. I mean it's alright that on the subject you are an ostrich, but people being wary of items being purged which they thought were legit is a real concern, especially with the RMAH.
Did anyone check that link? That's pretty funny if that's how it'd happening. Just a good vendor deal and probably had a train of his friends buying the item?
Huh... Thats disconcerting in a way if its true. I've found some good vendor items, but that bow would be nuts off a vendor. Especially for <80k,
On the last page a few people already posted that after 100+ runs, they only got ilvl 50-59 items. It could be incredibly lucky, but I doubt it's true.
I don't think there is duping going on myself. But, if there is, the answer isn't simply to cast aside those who have, essentially, had gold/real money stolen from them. Especially when real currency is in play the answer is NOT to just stick your head in the sand. It's not complicated, and while I respect your opinion, your situation is NOT indicative of the majority of the players.
There are real-money ramifications to situations that arise from potential dupes. That is something that HAS to be treated with care and concern. I don't get why that's such an offensive idea to you. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
I know a few of my friends tried to "farm" the one merchant in the Highlands Pass. It didn't work out so well for them, and that guy isn't there any longer, but if you could bot it and the yellows were on some kind of list as opposed to totally random.... it's possible you could do something like that.
Did they ever cap the speed with which you can create new games? Or did that idea go down the toilet?

It's a pretty big stretch for anyone to claim that this is a vendor item in the first place, let alone try and say they found it 8 times.
All of this could be a hoax, but it could just as easily be true. If the former, it will probably be dispelled shortly by Blizzard (or nothing at all, indicating it's just photoshop fun); if the latter, you will see a fix soon.
D2 wasn't built with annoying always online that was supposed to keep this shit from happening. SO now we get dupes AND DCs AND Lag. GG blizz on pumping out an unfinished product and convincing your followers to eat it up with a spoon.
Okay, so because the game is online, that is why Blizzard needs to be perfect?
Btw, We still don't have proof that there is duping.
For the sake of clarity. although only loosely on topic at this point. Photoshop is commonly used in composting. So saying a video has been "Photoshoped" is not technically an incorrect statement.
I'm convinced that there were multiple identical bows on the AH, enough people made note of it and the video would have been difficult to fake. It would have had to be quite an effort to organize for a hoax.
On the other hand, I'm not convinced that it was a reproducible or intentional dupe. If it were, I would expect to have heard of additional multiples on the AH. To me, you either shut up about it and put them one at a time on the AH to not draw attention, or you want to draw attention and put 8 up at a time. If that's the case, why not put up another 8? Why not buy a higher quality item with the proceeds and dupe it?
Perhaps the answer is that some guy encountered some server glitch and got 8 duplicate bows, and placed them on the AH. Maybe it's a 1 in a billion situation that came about when battle.net was crapping out the little while ago. Maybe the reason there's only 8 mediocre bows for sale is that's just what happened to drop.
You do realize that there is literally no way to outright prevent hacking right? In any software, ever.
Online only means they can identify and actually do something about it when it happens.
Get those knuckles off the ground there bud.
Software 101 stuff here man, maybe you should sell that PC? Obviously you dont quite understand whats going on.
Why are you typing like this?
It is very annoying.
You are right though, there's no way to prevent stuff like this. Testing can only prevent exploits up to a certain level, if people want to exploit, they will find it, eventually.
OR maybe ah is bugging AGAIN and magically created dupes?
I saw a screen they were all sold, so maybe they were actually just one item, of which someone bought. If duping was going on, there would be more duped items at the AH.
This seems the most likely option... the AH is displaying multiple instances of the same auction. If I see several listings of the same item with different listing times, prices and/or different 'sold' statuses, that'd be cause for concern. Until then, it looks more like MVC failure.

Really?
So you must think that Blizzard North was HORRIBLE then eh? (in case you were unaware of the MASSIVE amount of dupes in D2)
At least with D3, they can update the game to eliminate this if it turns out to be true.

Either way, it will be resolved.

Carry on.

Just report him, don't respond to him.
I just read the whole thread on the official forums, had a great laugh. I hope D3's economy goes to hell. This is so fun.
