Blizzard stated that they do not want players running the same boss OVER AND OVER AND OVER again(they mentioned this when they revealed the inferno difficulty). What do you guys think about adding in a feature that gives bonus experience and drop rate(perhaps through a magic find bonus) for each act cleared in a single game.
For instance if you clear 1 act you get a 5% bonus to both, 2 acts 10%, 3 acts 15% and so on...simple enough. I was also thinking that this may only be active in inferno difficulty...and if that were to be the case the experience bonus could be removed(because you need to be max level to access inferno...right?).
This would promote starting at the beginning and clearing all the way through for your best chance at some sick loot. I believe this promotes a variety of enemies and bosses and also forces players to go through the more challenging content rather than skipping what they find difficult.
Its the best idea for repeatable plays in my opinion. Have gone through the grind diablo 2 put in and honestly most ppls use bots for these but seems people already forget this. From alot of the posts here they are still stuck in diablo 2 mentality and cant get out of it. Maybe they need to get out of the house more often, smell the roses.
I don't think people are going to grind bosses per se. I think they are going to be killing Unique monsters the most and what we've seen from the beta ... they could be any where.

I think it is a good idea, maybe even where for each act cleared in the following act there will be double random spawn unique monsters anywhere, next act quadruple of act1 ect. Anything to keep people from grinding. I cant stand grinding for one, but it is the quickest way to get the drops your looking for. Somehow getting people to explore every environment every game, not just particular environment monsters ect.

I do see your point, but consider mine; I spent about 90% of my Diablo 2 play time(About 7 years for 15+ hours a week) doing baal runs. I familiarized myself with that content to the point It got sickening. I think having something in the game that promotes spreading your play time throughout the whole game would be amazing!
Im not saying we will be running the same boss(es) over and over and over, but what if we like a specific area, most people will stick to that. I mean why run the maggot lair when you could do tomb runs lol. I just think it would help people get out of their comfort zones (no pun intended).
Meh, the problem with that is you are throwing out the freedom of the current setup. I can go where ever I want to farm in D3, but if this system was implemented it would dictate the best way to farm loot. Its the same type system as forcing people to farm bosses in D2.
I will keep my freedom of choice.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
I was thinking of another idea to expand upon this current one.
If you clear all 4 acts you would have accumulated 20% bonus to magic find BUT now that the game is over(assuming 4 acts) you have nothing to use it on. Blizzard could place a...secret ending...boss/event/level at the end of this re-run mode.
What would this do? Putting a secret *blank* at the end of re-run mode would make it MUCH less capable of being farmed. You would have to clear the ENTIRETY of re-run mode in order to enter this secret place. Now im not saying there would be tasty beef providing enemies *hint*, but It would be a nice place for it. Setting the secret *blank* level at the end of this full run mode would make it more of a reward than something to constantly run and run until your eyes bleed.
PLEASE let me know what you guys think.
(off to watch some tv...will respond tomorrow, thx for the current responses)
I think experiencing the different scenery of the many zones is incentive enough to not just farm the same area over and over and over. If there is an equal chance of great drops from any champion/rare mob all over the world, I don't see any reason to not just re-run entire acts if you're farming for gear, so I think it's fine with no added reward.

This is also a very good point, added rewards in a game can quickly turn into "any other way is a waste of time" if they're too powerful.
I actually agree with your idead completely, and if blizzard doesnt want to award a bonus amount of experience at the end of each act, maybe when you do clear an act. At the end of a boss battle for example. It would say, Increase gold and magic find like %5 for normal and +%1 for each act accordingly. Then maybe into Nightmare you'd get the same %5 +%1 but with a percentage of increased drops and moving into hell you'd get a little bit more? Each consecutive quest or act completed bumps it up a little making it, end game or difficulty up there with the reward factor of grinding to encourage more of the game to be explored.
A second suggestion could be something along the same principle but with % Map Explored or % Monsters in Area Killed.
Adding those bonuses would make them mandatory, it will not be required, but people looking to maximize their drops would no longer have the choice to farm whatever zone they want. Without this bonus people can choose where they want to play based on which zone they like, the scenery, monsters and story will be the determining factors of the zones I will frequent or maybe after a while we will go somewhere we haven't been for a while. By making this bonus it would be seemingly required to do these full runs to maximize drop potential.

It's not about getting rid of grinding its about making another option. something that could be a change.
If you played diablo 2 legit, and were good.. you killed bosses and cleared the pit hundreds of times. Eventually it will get old. If Diablo 2 had another equivalent option then maybe I would still be playing?

There is a good motivation already, rare/champs will drop better loot the bosses, that is a good enough reason for me to run through the act looking for random rare monsters:)
there is no need for this and it would go against what blizzard wants with their end-game farming. they stated they want u to be able to farm the entire length of inferno. and pick what part you like best and farm there or farm the whole thing IF you want to. giving bonus's for ANYTHING would FORCE players to have to do that. what if most players have parts they hate to go through? now they are forced to play it over n over in order for extra loot. forcing players to do anything is what blizzard is steering away from, get used to it.

If it were me implementing something along this lines. You would NOT be forced to do anything. Simply something to change it up.
Say your walking through and killing every monster in an act or on the way to a boss spending the time you could just kill the boss 5 times which would be more rewarding? obviously killing the boss 5 times. So thats what your going to do.
Now lets say if you went through and did kill everything, finished the act, took the caravan to lut gholein and got a bonus of gold for % of monsters killed or a temporary buff such as movement speed increased by %10 for 120 seconds or Resource regeneration increased for X amount of time even a Token or Certificate you take to a vendor and receive a completely random item based on iLvl of the act. It would add a whole new thing to do. Another aspect. Maybe even an advantage somewhere down the road. Easter eggs. Secret Kitty level.
Nothing to force you to do it, just a back up option, something fun to do before inferno mode.

I think that if one act completely sucks, this idea will sucks too
Modification. Go through acts in specific period of time clearing 90% of elite mobs should give you some extra exp. Closer you are to the best in the world (for your char type) the biggest experience bonus you receive. Or smth like it. But this is called a play mode so it is not exactly the same thing.
Also with current system, blizzard will be able to get easy updates about unpopular areas which are rarely visited by players. They can then strive to fix them so players don't stray away from them. This way everybody at some point should like most of the areas equally. Well, as far as people don't happen to dislike the specific area because of its art design, which blizzard surely won't change.

How do you add more diversity to an infinite system? You can't. The current system gives you an infinite, or near infinite number of avenues to explore for farming loot. What is being suggested in this thread does not add diversity, its streamlining the goal to one overall purpose. You are not creating options by adding incentives to a certain play-style, you are taking them away.
I know you think that no one is forcing us to do the complete run through, and that is indeed true. However, if its the most efficient route, then it will be by far the most commonly used one. Meanwhile, players who don't want to use this route will feel cheated, and rightfully so.
Long story short, the system seems near flawless imo, and your don't fuck with whats not broken.

You are perfectly right. Al play styles which gives you rewards other than an achievements will force some play style on players. I say they should just add a special achievement which would count how many times you have cleared all acts fully (90%) and every now and then give you some semi-random rare for it (but nothing special which would make this clearing really worthwhile).
