This is a post to try and help all the people who really really want a key like myself.
Here's the thing, all these people posting random posts, this isn't how you are going to win a key, you have to be constructive as well as on topic. For example "I agree, with what Aerisot said, it is just like critting whatever" or "hey guys what do you think about the beta?" this is a fine example of a post that will not get you a key. Give good information to all the newcomers, prove to the mods that you can actually be a mod at some point, help the newbies, provide accurate feedback.
Another thing to remember is, IT IS ok to post one sentence posts, so long as you don't care about winning a beta key, no need to make up things to try and impress people.
As a veteran on this forums and long time seasonal poster, I browse and read more then I post, I would love to be a mod some day, not sure if it will ever happen, but I can have hopes and dreams and so can you!
Posts like...
"to my knowledge, every hit has a chance to crit. each 'tick' in an AoE is considered a hit so each one has a CHANCE to crit. this thread got me thinking about the demon hunters passive skill that grants a 3% chance to crit every second. i started thinking if that gets build up to 100% (if thats even possible) and then go unleash multishot on a mob, that could be extremely OP. but i think the only guarenteed (100%) crit would be the very first hit" - nemesis2252
I was gonna copy my own but that would be to shallow, anyways this post is a very very good constructive post, its informative and meets the criteria for the contest.
Bumping your own post is probably also a good way to not get a beta key
I actually disagree with your post though. They likely chose "random posts" as the criteria to get people posting. The more active a forum is, the more money it makes from ads. While they did set criteria to make sure it's not pure spam, a random constructive post is likely just as likely to get picked as a term paper post.
They chose to use their keys to increase traffic and get more people posting semi useful things. That doesn't necisarily mean they're using them to get people to all post topics so complex that it takes 4 paragraphs to respond.
As long as people are posting semi useful things even if they are random, I'm sure they'll be fine.

I know bumping this will not help me, I'm not posting this for a key, its to help everyone else win one. Its not just random posts, I asked. I was told that they will take a recent thread, scroll through the posts see which is the most constructive and select the winners for the keys

According to the rules:
Posts must be constructive
Posts must be on topic with the original post
It must add to the conversation (ex: no “I agree with this.” alone)
Must be at least three sentences
Must contain no flaming or trolling
That is pretty much every post more than 1 sentence. Hell, my post follows these guidelines, even though this post is about how to post to win the posting contest. It also specifically says "random posts" not "best posts"
I wish I could win with this post. That would be so meta.

Thres a difference between constructive posts and usless posts. 95% of the posts on here since announcement fall in the later.
So, now we are critiquing each other's posts to determine who is "worthy" of getting a D3 beta key? This seems a little counter intuitive to the whole reason they were given keys in the first place... Think about it. Blizzard gives keys to fansites for two reasons: One (and most importantly for Blizzard), it spreads the word about their game and gets more people excited about playing it. And two, it in turn generates more traffic for the fansites, which helps keep them "alive and well" as well as paying their bills--which, of course, in turn generates even MORE buzz for Blizzard (in an alternative "viral" way).
It's a really awesome marketing strategy, actually....
Right, because the posts complaining about other posts are so succesful. Bumping your own thread in 40 mins by saying you want people to see your wonderful advice (I wonder why ) is also a great way of showing people how to be constructive...
You make a fair point don't get me wrong - it's amazing to see a flood of people with 1 post go terry try-hard mode on being constructive, but in light of the contest and especially since you are a long time member I think you are being a massive hypocrit, no offense.
Although I admit, bumping my own thread is shameful, in my defense before I bumped it it said 0 replies 0 views I took some time to write that and wanted to share it with people, I was thinking about messageing someone asking them to post...and when I decided I'd just bump it and take the hit from the community, it jumped to 30 views...I was like damn...too late.
I can't really consider myself a hypocrit though since I am not in this for the beta key, I'd like one, but I'm not gonna stress about it.
Also I troll...I troll alot, but even I like to help people from time to time, which what this post is about, I've seen countless posts saying "I agree and I want beta" I figured, I might as well give it a shot and try to maybe help somebodym if I do..great if I don't no biggy, so once again sorry for the self bump, but I wanted at least one other person to read it.
Edit: My post in no way complained about other people's posts, just used some as references...please read the entire post and do not just skim it.
Ultimately diablofans.com is interested in building its community. Yes at some point it translates to a bottom line of $$, but also it's a fan site. People don't make fansites for the heck of it (certainly not for the very small profits they'd get in ads); I'd imagine that the people/person in charge genuinely wanted to build a community around a game he/she loves. I used to want to own a hobby shop because it brought together groups of people around a common interest. Hobby shops don't really make money either!
Anyway, that being said, while the 'beta key' contest is going to increase the traffic to the site, I think it has a more long-term goal of building community here, whether that be more forum regulars, or just higher quality posts in general. I can vouch for that as someone who generally only reads the posts in a forum but never participates. I've certainly been motivated to participate more.
Also, I'm surprised that you, Aerisot, don't have a key already given your 400+ posts. We gotta get you one. My post will now bump this for you haha :-)
The majority of us oldbies don't have keys zenithi. I'd say maybe 10-25% of us do.
Diablofans has only had so many to give and every time they were some contest or another and the majority of the time it was new players that got them.
I think most of the people that currently do have it got it during the 100k Opt-In.

Shoot, Ive been following Diablo 3 closely since 2008........I was hoping to get a beta key in some way or form, especially with the 100k Opt-in. Go figure my girlfriends family who live near Blizzard HQ, the 4 of them that Opted in.....got keys, since I live in Florida, I wasn't lucky enough to get an invite. =( Only thing that keeps me tame is watching updates so closely.

you have to figure that the 100K optin was 10-20% of actual North American Opt-ins. I believe optining in for any bet by default selects all betas... and I beleive its safe to assume at least 500K-1M people opted in in NA alone.
Odds are probably higher to have opted in and get a beta than to recieve one from the random post contest.....
No doubt, but they did state the 100k was to stress test and they focused mainly on people who lived close by. I'd be curious to see what % was actually out of......say, California. I may have little chance of getting a key solely on random posts on a site, but you can't win a lotto if you don't play your dollar.

Lottos are a different story... normally you pick your numbers and the drawing goes against those numbers. It doesn't matter HOW MANY people dillute the pool... you still need to pick your numbers correctly.
Here, every single newbie that comes trying to get into the like you and every other newb tonight dillutes the pool. The more posters, the lower your odds of getting selected.
I can understand your frustration, being that you've been a member of this forum since 2009. Based on some of the threads I've looked through I can also see where the problem lies with 'newbs' stirring the pot with post which make little sense. I would hope you not make such a bold view on some of the sort coming out of the woodwork, we may just recently started posting, but I'm sure a large % have been lurkers for a while, myself, I've been coming to this site since Diablo 2 was the it blizzard game.
i live in california pretty close to Irvine and have opted in and tried to stay on top of every contest and have yet to receive a key just totally random i believe and none of my friends have gotten in either (except for some jag off in class who was like telling everyone about it they pick real top candidates for testing their game apparently ...).
Basically I interpreted his post as local, being close to Irvine, I would think otherwise if it wasn't for the 4 familish members who live down the road from HQ.

If you want to help me get a key, by all means...Be my guest! Diablo 3 has just over 2 months till release (let me believe that) so if I do not recieve a key, it's not really a big deal. I lied to myself when I said Diabofans is the only site I'd compete at, I caved and went to other sites as well..I guess I want a key more then I thought.

I'm all about replying to random posts, with random information, not that it matters.
