Hello all beta testers! I have a question... The first time I killed the King, it dropped 2 rare (yellow) items. Now I started to kill him for many and many times and haven't seen any rare drop!! It's just my bad luck or it's happening with you all?
Every time I kill him with a new class it drops rare loot. From the second time I got nothing, just blue crap items!
It's by design.
Bosses will drop a guaranteed (or almost guaranteed) Rare the first time you kill them.
After that the chances for a Rare from them is the same as from any other monster.
So, you mean thar I've the same chance of getting a rare drop from the monsters in Cathedral Level 2 as I have in the Boss? Damn, I was rushing towards him without kill anything! lol
Not exactly, I am not in the beta but, from what I understand they have the same or a little less % to drop items rare, magical and legendary as rares or champions. Correct me if i am wrong.
This , simply because they want to avoid what happened in Diablo2 , which was bossfarming 24/7.. which imho is great.
Uh.... You are aware that this was the case in D2 as well right? First time you killed a boss it always dropped better loot than afterwards. WIth enough MF the future kills still reward high quality gear so it wasn't really noticable.
They're not trying to prevent boss farming, they're making it so that isn't the ONLY way to farm loot. Which is a good thing.

Not quite no, the bosses still do have a slightly increased chance to drop better loot, and I believe champion monsters will have a higher magic drop % than bosses (not first kill). It will also likely depend on the monster level, so a level 5 champion won't drop want a level 7 boss might etc.
The first kill of any boss is granted and rather significant boost to the magic find %, although it is still possible to only get blues, this was also the case in Diablo II.

Are you sure it's same? I understand killing bosses is not that worthwhile as in D2, but still if rare/legendary finding are equal with normal bosses, then it's just bad. Bosses always should have much higher chance to drop something.
The same as they all can drop the same crap but bosses have a higher chance to drop the same items... By logic this is how it should work.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
Only the Skeleton King can drop rares in the beta, which is partly why everyone rushes him. Presumably after the skeleton king, anything ought to be able to drop a rare.
Bosses tend to drop more items than other foes, particularly Leoric (at least 3), and as far as I can see they are at least magical. So that right there has to improve your odds some.
I have beaten the beta with each class so far and have gotten at least 1 rare item if not 2 from the Skeleton King on each of their first kill. After that I have no gotten a rare item from the skeleton king. However I did get 1 rare item to drop off a champion mob. So after playing for around 12 hours or so total. I've seen 1 rare drop off a champion.

Not true, Jondar dropped a rare for me and no it wasn't the rare Blacksmith pattern either. He dropped a very nice sword.

Using MF items?? I have about 35% of Magic Find! lol still hard to find rare items!

Never got one after the first SK kill.
I've gotten SK to drop 2 rares at once for me, and it was like my 14th kill.
I've been playing the beta for quite a while, gotten a few rare items (yellow), and this is how it seems to work for me (no data, just how it feels):
1. I've gotten rares from normal mobs probably more than champions/SK (other than SK first kills), due more likely to the fact that I've killed FAR more normal mobs than champions.
2. Magic find seems to just work as a multiplier on a mobs base chance to drop any kind of magic item. I've made MF sets up to around +100%, and although I seem to pick up more blues, it doesn't make a huge difference. I think it works like this:
- regular mob has a .5%(example only) chance to drop a blue, +50% MF = .5% + (.5*50%) = .75%, still very low, almost unnoticeable over a couple hundred mobs.
- anything breakable (barrels, loose stones, etc.) has about the same chance as a regular mob, maybe even less, certainly not more.
- anything openable (regular chests, those stone coffers, etc.) has a much greater chance (maybe 5-10x a reg mob)
- resplendent(sic) chests have a 100% chance to drop at least one blue item, many times 2 blues, I don't recall ever getting a rare from one, but Blizzard has taken most of them out since the beta started, I think the only one left is at the end of the second level of the rarely spawned Den of the Fallen.
3. As far as rares go, I personally have only gotten rares from mobs, champions, or boss-types. Never from anything breakable, and as far as I can remember, no chests or quest/event reward drops.
4. Chance to drop a rare item is probably on the order of 100x less than a blue (.005%) They call them 'rare' for a reason. Might be a second roll for rare quality, .5% to get a magic item, then if it passes that roll, another roll (maybe a one in a hundred chance) to see if the item is a rare.
If anyone knows for sure how the system works and can tell me I'm way out to lunch on this, feel free to correct me, like I said, this is just how it feels.
TLDR: From my experience, chance to get a magic item from a champion/boss is greater than a regular mob, chance for it to be a 'rare' doesn't seem to change much.

I don't hate my parents, I don't get drunk just to spite them.
I have my own reasons to drink, I think I'll call my Dad up and invite him.

I'm an adult now... (TPOH)
Any other mob won't drop rare items either (aside from patterns)
I don't know about you, but I've never seen a yellow item drop out of the blue
