Allow the old Siren to sound when someone clicks that HOSTILE button on you.
Because for some it inserts fear, and for others opportunity.
My Idea (Much like in Diablo 2, but with a twist)
1. Create an "Item" ring, amulet, gloves, helm...anything that has an attribute called "PvP Shield". The way this "PvP Shield" would work is that whenever you have this Item on, you can Shield the first initial attack from anyone expressing hostility against you, and it will remain active for 5-10 seconds (depending on roll you get), allowing you to be invulnerable for that time. This would prevent people from PKing anyone because they feel like it. If you do not have the ring however, you are out of luck.
2. DO NOT make this item available for anything but 1 slot on your character. Say it's a ring... you would have to have it on while you are with people so they can't turn against you and kill you instantly. If it is a "charm" type of deal like in Diablo 2, everyone would run around with it on, defeating the purpose of this item. I would like to to be a choice, not a "must have".
3. Once you Express Hostility, that person has the choice to exit game obviously, or take you on. Once the first hit goes, the shield will activate allowing you to run or attack. Once you attack, your shield is disabled. The effect of the ring would not engage for the person initially attacking, eliminating a shield for the person engaging. This would make it interesting for anyone attempting to hurt someone in their group.
4. If you do end up killing a player, the option to take 1 or more of their items should be possible, even if that item is in the stash! But only if the player is killed by the opponent who engaged the fight. No items would be looted if other parties participate in the kill of another player.
This is kind of the Idea I had last night when I was watching a stream and people were trying to come up with "end game" product. This might take some work to do on Blizzards part, but it would be thoroughly enjoyed I'm sure! At least that is why i'm taking my time to write this anyhow! I hope that the Community reads this and bumps it up if they believe in this Idea, or can add to my Idea!
It's a bit convoluted. Also, there will never be and should never be a way to engage someone in any pvp activity without their prior consent. This means they should knowingly open themselves to pvp before joining or creating a game.
It should never be possible to kill someone in pvp that wants to avoid pvp. It should never be possible to grief someone by forcing them to leave a game with threat of pvp.
Any pvp fight should consist of two or more people who are willing and ready to engage in pvp.
I think a big issue in this would be just how PVP currently works in D3 (or Brawling, rather said).
Currently, there are no real algorithms. There is no real math in the sense of how WoW did it - no real DMG reduction from players etc. So essentialy, with this implimented as is - you would just probably one shot someone after their shield goes down.
Which sounds insanely dull to me. Not that it cannot be refined with math - but just the concept at hand. It's literally promoting griefing and conflict of philosophy. If i play D3 to have rewards in form of farming in different ways (albeit there are not many atm) - why would i want to have someone interuppt that for me?
If they managed to seperate it to a different game mode - then sure. Then i'm all for it. And it would essentialy become a lot alike to other concepts already done (i.e WoW PvP servers or PoE pvp leagues). This is a returning issue for D3. It tries to be itterative and "re-create" when in fact it's in a market where a lot of the other ideas have been done by themselves or by others... And not only that, but that the very premis of the base game is still flawed for such improvements.
They have itterated and chosen a base where the baseline is to get loot and more loot - there is litlle to any room to move in such a crammed space with ideas and concepts or dynamics. Its just all about getting loot. Fact is - it's evident as is. Does pvp excist in D3? Not really - And coinsidentally, does it relate to "getting items" in any way? As far as we know, it would be a itterative medium of "honor systems" from WoW or alot of other things there of. Already done.
Personally i would like to see more incentive to do different things with pvp. Like take your idea - add algorithms - then make a pvp open zone. Where people can just farm with a higher reward rate - BUT, there would always be the danger of pvp there. Then you could restrict it further with gear defining with some sort of gear summary etc. that would make it so that players who are out of your effective DPS or Health league, just don't show up there.
Now if that would be balanaced - i doubt it. Sincerely. I do not think there would be a competetive pvp scene of it AT ALL. But would it be fun? Sure. Mosh pit loot, RAWR.
I thought about the "one-shot" deal and all I could come up with really to eliminate a 1 shot would be to have the "pvp shield" be 10 seconds long. That way you could run away from that person, or TP.
Now given... say you're farming and "dumby" keeps trying to hostile you. If you're a party leader, you should be able to drop that person. I remember collecting ears in D2. I had fun running around battling people that wanted to. If they could just balance the characters, things like this "pvp shield" idea might flow just right. This is why I post... so my ideas aren't stuck in my head with no help. Thank you mucho for taking the time for such a big reply! Definitely what I wanted, and I agree!

Well, PVP wasn't always "agreed" on in D2. You could PK people quite often. It is ruthless haha, but it was tremendous fun for those who created an ART out of it. I believe if they really find a balance between characters with items and skills, which is huge obviously, they will find a use for this Idea. Overall I just thought putting something like this out there would be fun to see what people have to say and maybe bounce ideas around about it. Thanks!
Also, there will never be and should never be a way to engage someone in any pvp activity without their prior consent.
I completely disagree with this sentiment, but I don't think we'll ever see traditional PKing again because most players hated it. I'd bet you that PKing comprised a huge number of Blizzard's customer service complaints.

I'm sure they're glad to have such a choice.

So basically your idea of fun is ruining someone else's game and you'd like Blizz to allow you to do it?
Sorry if I'm misunderstanding your point, but I loved it when people would drop into my game and go hostile. It was a total rush trying to get away if I was on a character that couldn't fight back, or trying to ambush the aggressor if I was on a character that could. PKs were way more interesting than anything the game ever threw at me. Lost plenty of HC characters that way.
But, like I said, I get that a lot of people hated it and I don't expect to see it ever added back to the game, but that doesn't change my opinion on it.
