I still play regularly. I agree, it is EXTREMELY addicting.
I have a strafer in the beginnings of hell 83. She does well but I need to upgrade her gear. I am using Noir's right now and I think it's time I moved on from the set (it's such a good set though).
I have an 80 druid but he is claw/summon, he isn't doing very well with hell. I need to work on him some more.

Yeah - took me almost 2 years just to get 200 crystals to make one.
I used to get set jackpots quite a bit in the beginning - plus gambling gets you lots of good stuff too.
I've gotten my share of some great rares too.
I highly recommend gambling - not for chits either - regular gambling - I never really got anything good from the chits.

I gamble early in the game to get my gold find gear (Leather of Luck gloves and at least 2 pieces of the Autoculs Set (Belt and Boots). I prefer using chits especially in Nightmare and Hell. The thing is that the Chits have will have a set percentage to be an exceptional or Elite depending on the difficulty purchased. As far as I know the roll is made first for exceptional and if the chance is too high an elite will not roll. The gambling chances are hardcoded. The Chits were made so you can get the Elites easier and the solution also works for Mac users.
I have been playing mostly tournaments for the past 4 years in ES and most of the rules had no use of items from other characters. In those 4 years you learn a lot about how to get gear for your character especially in a tourney with little or no re-running areas.
The largest factor to success is getting Gold Find especially early on. Gold Find will allow you to buy or gamble gear. Also do not d-stone/gem-meld gear unless you plan on the item as end gear. It is always better to spend the resources on forging gear or making Anvils since they can be returned to you when you are upgrading your gear.
Other key to success is creating your starter weapon and the skill tab amulet and rings. They make a big difference in the game and depending on the build it will make it easier to handle the Blood Raven's Workshop under level. BRW is a nice place to run before heading into Act 2. You can get some nice runes and can get some exceptional items as well. That will make the rest of Normal easier to play at higher players setting to get more gold.
The other key factor is the preparation for Hell. Most of the work can be done with a single pass of normal and nightmare if you do not waste d-stones. With the Gold Find gear you will usually have more than enough magic find to convert most uniques and sets into decipher points. I also will convert most unwanted or duplicate ancient scrolls into dragon stones. The only time I will not is early on to get cash for the gambling of my gold find.

I installed Eastern Sun a few days ago, but for some reason, when I double click the desktop icon, it doesn't open.
My mouse cursor turns into a CD spinning sort of thing, so I know I clicked it and my computer is working, but it just sits there like that and teases me.
Likely you have a digital download version 1.12 or 1.13 version of LoD installed. The digital version does not check the cd when it is launching the game. Eastern Sun does use version 1.10 of LoD that still has the cd check.

Now...is there a way to run it in windowed mode? I know you attach -w to the shortcut, but...I'd like to make it a little bigger screen than just the tiny window it starts with.

Hey guys, my friend's dad has downloaded ES and started playing it. However, he has run into a problem in act2:
So for the maggot lair he can't open those goo doors, thus creating the problem of not being able to continue into the other areas, he has 2 sorcs up there so they can teleport into the area, but they cannot leave the maggot lair going out or in deeper. so he cannot get back out of the lair or go into the underground maze or whatever, are sorcs just bugged shitless or is there something else you have to do in order to get through?
My response was:
Well, the goo parts have always been tricky, even in LoD. Usually I click on them, they won't open, then I move in closer and then try to open them again. But if you have sorcs, then yeah its no problem.
But what do you mean can't go in deeper or go back? Like, he can find the entrances/exits but can't go through them? If so, then its your computer or something, not eastern sun. I've never had any problems like that, nor have any of my friends. If, by chance, you can't find where to continue on to, then try using the eastern sun database's website (where you downloaded from), and check out the map visuals they have. They changed act2 and act3 a bit, so its quicker to go through and less grinding. They put up pictures of the pathways and maps and stuff so you know were to go.
Another thing, did your dad download the right version? I'm assuming he is using windows?
And his last reply was:
yeah when he finds the exit/entrance and clicks on it, it doesnt do anything. he is completely unable to move on in the game lol.i think the version is 3.0?
Soooo I have no idea what the problem is. I just replied saying that there are two windows versions. He may have dl'd R6C by accident. But anyways - you guys have any ideas? =/

I suggest that he switch the left mouse button to normal attack since some skills are buggy when on the LMB when opening doors and portals.
He may have downloaded a very old version of Eastern Sun which was 3.00. It was known as quite buggy before the many patches by Perfect Cell and then Tsuru in the c, n, r series of Eastern Sun.
R6C is not that much different than R6D. There is also a community patch R6E version 4 out as well. It has been worked on by Nameless and Admiral.

Well hans, I told my friend about the left-click thing, and apparently that was the problem. Which, in all hoensty surprised me. I've never encountered a bug before in ES (unless you count the SS crashing TCPIP games a bug). But eh, it worked so my friend's dad is happy. Thanks a ton, bro'.
Btw, any new updates on that new new patch thats gunna change the world, yet?

That LMB is also known in D2. I had that issue a few times on Battle-net a long time ago. It sometimes more common in mods since many mods modify skills and or allow only RMB skills to be used on the LMB.

I just started playing ES and my stash is somehow gone. I think it might have happened after I logged out and back in again. Any ideas what could have happened?
I did a little research myself but couldn't find much on the subject, except for this one interesting post about how this guy lost all his gear because he accidentally picked up a cracked bow. What is this all about and what can I do to prevent such things happening?
I've heard rumors before about people losing stuff in their stashes. I heard once it can happen if you have way too many things in your stash. This could easily be unfounded, though. Also, did you lose your shared stash or just your character's personal stash? I personally only like putting stuff in a shared stash despite the supposed risks of losing one's stuff. And I think if you did lose stuff by overstashing, you'd still have to do at least like over 100 pages full of things. I've never come close to filling up 100 pages in my stash and I'm not even sure if it's true anyway. Never heard that about the cracked bow.
